I wish we had gyms and YMCA that offered those kind of programs. However, they are 1 hour away from my home and so expensive...

I have a small grym here in town, however it is a local pick up joint... NOW that High School soccer has started I will be working every Thrusday-Sat-- Refereeing games and when I can I will pick up days M-W... I will be a little busy......

I hope in those efforts I will also loose a lot of weight....

You're kidding. You and that bike need to come to a mutual agreement and be friends!

My Tri is at a wellness center about 2 hours from where I live. The swim is an indoor swimming pool and the rest is outside. The only thing my Y does is a 10K in April during our Dogwood Festival.

You GO GIRL!!! Now you're ON!!!

I went to the Y last night and road the exercise bike 30 min then attempted to immediately run 3.1 miles at the track outside. My legs felt like noodles and I never did find my race pace. I completed the run in 29:47 which is slow for me. Then I had swim class and learned the flip turns at the end of laps.

I went back to the Y at 5:30 this morning to swim laps and work on endurance. Brian said when he started doing his laps it all of a sudden clicked and he was able to do more and more. I does seem a LOT easier already; especially since I've learned proper techniques. But time is ticking...

Brian is down to 1 1/2 weeks for his Tri and I'm down the 2 1/2 weeks! I'm glad he is going first!!!

I went to Y this morning and did the usual: elliptical 40 minutes and wt machines 30-40 minutes.

No, he's in Kentucky and I'm in North Carolina. And his Tri is lengthier than mine!

His is August 1:
Swim - 1/2 mile (880 yards)
Bike - 14 miles
Run - 5K

Mine is August 9:
Swim - 250 yards
Bike - 9 miles
Run - 5K

So he has a much further swim and a bit more bike. I'm glad mine isn't any bigger for a first time out-of-shape novice! He's a novice too, but much braver and fitter than I am!!!

I ran 3.7 miles this morning and going to the Y tonight for body sculpting, exercise bicycle, and swimming.

Tomorrow morning I want to swim laps, bike, then run; but I don't have a bike rack yet.

Maybe I'll just do the exercise bike again then run at the track here.

Looking forward to resting Saturday!

Maria--- I noticed that you exercise a lot.... Just what all do you do?????? Your list of things you do make me want to do more.

Does everyone else exercise a bunch?????

I know I need to but I still make up to many excuses. However, today I am going down stairs to work out. IT is a beginning..... A habit I want to keep....

BeThin, I exercise daily for 45 - 60 minutes and vary what I do. I may do additional bike riding, walking etc. but that isn't usually anything planned.

I worked out to Gilad on FitTV today. Two half hour exercise shows.

I've been building up over time. I was a chubby couch potato last summer. I started last fall with a simple walk on my lunch hour. Then, because I'm an aging female, I added hand weights. "They" say we have to do that for our bones and to prevent osteoporosis, so ok, added that. I mainly use Kathy Smith's DVD. She does 20 min upper body, 20 min lower, and 10 min abs. Sometimes Shred with Jillian Michaels.

Then for the new year I did the Couch to 5K program and that's when things started cranking up. I was addicted after running my first race with only 2 sketchy months of running under my belt.

Then Barb here on our thread got some of us to dust our bikes off, so I added that. (Except that Mel dusted hers off but has yet to ride it! )

By then I was feeling REALLY good, so after running three 5Ks (which were now "been there/done that"), I got the bright idea that I could do a Triathlon. So now I have to add swimming!

So you see... once you make exercise a habit, what you're doing never seems like enough! Because the sense of accomplishment keeps driving you forward and you want to keep "upping the ante."

You begin breaking all of those imaginary barriers of what you thought you could never do, but YOU CAN!

Last December, I never in my wildest dreams thought I could be a runner. I've never been athletic, not even in high school. And two weeks from now I'll be a Triathlete! Ok, that might be an overstatement since it is a small event and only my first one. But there still is that huge sense of accomplishment for completing something I never dreamed I could do, and at 43 years old. I only wish I had done this when I was younger... but better late than never!!!

And to make it even more rewarding, it falls just days before my Atkinsversary! What a wonderful way to complete the year!

Maria - girl you are kicking some serious @ss!!! And there is no such thing as a "small triathlon"! you silly girl!!

So, I took a bit of a break. Life ... ya know? I've been keeping up with Team Animal though. and Danny has seriously been kicking our butts. I'm not running every day. I was way overdoing that and my body was not liking that at all. We've been running at TA 3x a week so I have just been hanging with that for the most part. Although I did do a mile on Monday. Walked Tuesday and Wednesday.
Mel, you motivated ME to get back on my bike. I cannot believe you have YET to ride that bike!!!
I did 6 miles with my son this morning. He took me off-road for part of our ride. That was rough! In Florida our soil is "sand". *huff and puff* LOL.

So Mom's got a colonoscopy scheduled for some time today and hopefully that will tell them what her problem is. She's been in the hospital since Saturday. She sounds wonderful though, so that is encouraging. She's amazing. She had open heart surgery in April, now all this stuff and she is still cracking jokes and is in great spirits. I just my Mom. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

Anyway. I've been reading and trying to keep up with you all. You are my inspiration!
BeThin - it will become a habit if you just try to stick with some form of exercise for a while. It's definitely become addicting to me!

Mel - thanks for checking on me!!
Off to work with me now!!

It's ok Mel. We'll let you slide on the bike riding so long as you are dong other things.

Blessed be... today is my last 10 hour work day!!!

I was so excited to do a 4 day workweek over the summer; and now I'm excited to get things back to normal!!

I wouldn't mind coming in at 7 a.m. except that I cram so much into my mornings before work and I've been really pressed for my morning workout time.

Monday I don't have to work until 8 a.m., so I can FINALLY get back into a normal exercise routine and have my lunch hour walks again!!!

I went to the Y today to do my usual. However, I had posted on another thread what I was doing at the Y, elliptical first followed by wt. machines. However, a person suggested doing the wts first since glycogen stores are released and that I would burn more fat if I did cardio afterwards and do HIT.(High intensity training). So, today I did that. When I got to the elliptical I alternated 2 minutes, low intensity(incline at 10 and resisitance at 7) followed by high intensity (Incline to 12 and resistance to 10) for 35 minutes with 5 min cooldown.

I posted this on another thread that I thought was this one because BeThin is there too LOL.

When I was at the Y this morning I asked the person at the desk about a tri and told her a coworker was in a tri that a Y put on in another town. She is going to put the suggestion in to some other person to see what can be done.

Posting on another thread? Are you cheating on us?!? Just kidding. I have 3 threads that I regularly post to also. It can get confusing!

Really? I didn't know that. I've always done cardio first on days that I did both. Over the summer I've mostly alternated days; but now that I don't have to be to work until 8:00 am I may start doing both again.

I found an indoor Y Tri about 2 hours from me. Seems to be one of the most popular Triathlons in my state! But if you want to find more, just google Triathlon and your state and see what pops up. I was surprised at how many are going on within my region.

I swam laps at the Y this morning and logged my time for the Triathlon. They want us to be as exact as possible so they can line us up fastest to slowest. I fall right on the cusp of being steady and beginner. Oh well, that's understandable with less than a month of swimming under my belt. I can't wait to get better!

I need to get to the grocery store then hopefully go for a bike ride. Looking forward to a day of rest tomorrow. Have to go pick up my son from the airport.

No head hanging necessary Mel You show us up all over the place doing other things. I just think it's funny how you keep TRYING to get on that bike!
Yesterday I did a mile jog and then 1/2 mile cool down walk. I swear I walk faster than I jog. But I sweat a whole lot more when I jog. Whatever!! LOL. Oh then I did another mile walk with my daughter and the dogs after dinner.
This morning I'm off to Team Animal already. Thinking about riding my bike there. I better get going if I am going to do that!
Happy weekend everybody!!

BF and I left at 6:00 a.m. for the River Walk Trail. We rode our bikes 8 miles fast and furious, then we ran 3 miles with killer hills immediately after, then we took the bikes back out for another 8 miles slower pace. It got up to nearly 100 degrees today. Glad we went early!

Tomorrow morning, swim laps!

Oh no... hope you're feeling better!

I swam 40 laps this morning (1000) yards.

This was by using the ladder technique; swim 2 laps and break, swim 4 laps and break, swim 6 laps etc, then did 10 laps twice.

I've had a sore throat for a couple of days; I sure hope I'm not getting sick! Now is NOT the time.

Well im so proud of ME i did 4 miles..thought that was a good start

35 here today so 102 degree's and not a cloud in site but they do have a severe storm warning in effect which can only bring more fires

so hubby had a bit of a scare this morning....

i have been trying to get him off the night eating and the processed foods for a while..i have all the crackers/bars or anything else hid now..not that he cant have them but he doesnt know when to stop and he is type 2 diabetic with it under control with food.

SO...last night i watched him and so gorge themselves with junk food after i made a great fish and prawn fry....(son went to the store) he was hung over so wanted his junk food..WELL

i decided not to say anything to hubby about all the crap he was chowing down on..only because i was hoping he would learn a leason...WELL...

he has called in sick to work and is laying in bed felling like death !! Gosh im smart his heart is racing and he wants to he never calls in sick to work

so before he goes to bed he says to me..i will have some fresh juice if you dont mind and i have had enough of feeling like crap from food so im done with it all ... can you help me please
