Maria, what a positive attitude you have. Did you get your shoes at the store that videotaped your gait??? If so, is it a national chain? I got my last pair of shoes about a month ago, they are a good sporting store, but I wasn't video tapes (Fitness Sports, not sure if they are regional or national). There was a hallway in the back of the store that we could walk or run to see how the shoe worked.

Mel, new carpet is great, but the smell can be overpowering.

I walked this morning with my Exerstrider walking poles. It is very cool here, upper 50's. And, this is July??? Off to the county fair this afternoon. Funnel cakes are tempting but, I won't indulge.

WTG Maria --- Let us know how it goes.

Funnel Cake is fried dough (like donuts) covered with white powder sugar. IT is good but too sweet for me.

Having a good day today... Hope everyone else is.

So Vicki has the cool in the midwest and Mel has the heat up north! Guess that leaves me with the humidity.

Vicki - I think this is a local store; Raleigh Running Outfitters.

They did not video my gait, they just watched me walk. They said they only do the video when it is difficult to tell by watching. They have a treadmill that you walk on and it videos your gait and shows it on a monitor. This way they can watch you longer or slow it down etc. I saw another one that uses infrared to see how your foot is hitting the ground.

He pulled out a bunch of shoes and had me put on two different ones. He explained all the differences. Then he told me to go outside and run to try them out! I've never been to a shoe store that allows you to go outside! They had really good customer service.

I got a new bike yesterday too! It's a real nice comfort hybrid with a comfortable seat and it allows you to sit up straighter. So you don't have to be all leaning forward and feel like you're sitting on a 2x4. It's not a god bike for speed or racing; but I have no desire to get into serious biking anyway. I just want to do it for fun and fitness. It was more expensive than I intended, but I rationalized that I've had the same $88 dollar Walmart special for years and deserved a nice bike now.

And all because of Barb! Barb is the one who got me to dust off my old bike and start riding again. Where are you Barb?

Well, I'm off to try out the new shoes at the track, then my BF and I are taking the bikes out for a spin.

Have a fun and fit day everyone!!!

Isn't it great to have so many different options to stay in shape

I did a Karen Voigt tape this morning. Feeling fat too. I know I have been overeating and grazing too much. Even if the stuff is "legal". I gotta knock that off

I did not realize you could journal on the site.. I should check into that. I will have to look at the calories as well as carbs. I don't feel like I loose as fast if I don't look at both.

Today my diet looks like this...

Coffee and 2 scrambled eggs
Out to eat for lunch, Chicken salad.

Supper will be bunless hamburger, with brocci..

I will drink lots of water and have a snack of jello or celery or something low carb.

Weights today and cardio will be a tape or exercise bike.

Great plan! Journaling always helps. I use an excel spreadsheet to keep track of exercise, but I do food loggin on paper. I don't like Fitday; seems overcomplicated to me.

I'm definitely an overeater. Portion control is my downfall. Food logging is the only thing that helps.

I'll see if I can get BF to take a pic!

The new shoes work. Yesterday I ran 4 miles at the track in 35 min! Cheetah girl! I think I was faster because my BF went with me and I wanted to give him a run for his money. He was only able to lap me once, then he quit at 3.25 while I kept going. He tries to run too fast then can't keep pace to do the distance. As for me... I just say to myself, "slow and steady wins the race!"

Then we took the bikes to a paved river trail. The new bike rides like a dream! I felt like I was riding in a cadillac. I never new a bike could be for comfortable. I covered 9 miles like it was nothing while BF struggled a bit with his mountain bike. I think it'll be just fine for the race. I'm going to lower the handle bars for that.

This morning I went the the YMCA to do laps in the pool. Wow, it's tough. I'm a bit concerned as I'm already exhausted after just 4 laps of freestyle. I can do 10 laps; but I'll have to use breast stroke inbetween to catch my breath. I might even have to do a back stroke so that I can really catch my breath. I'll just have to keep working at it the best I can with only 3 weeks left until the race. I'm trying to think of it like the Couch to 5K program where you do intervals and work your way up.

Well, I better get to work. Have a great day everyone!

I hear ya Marie. I haven't gotten into any regular lap swimming, but when I do, I have the same experience. Keep it up. Didn't you say your goal for the tri is at least to finish it regardless of time?

Yes, that's true. I'm not so concerned about the time as I am about not stopping; because stopping is simply not an option. Slowing down is ok, but no stops. I think I'll try swimming slower and see if I last longer.

I've had to push my bike up hills in the past, so I guess one other no-no will be no getting off the bike. That would be too much like stopping.

Good morning all, I forgot to post what I did yesterday: elliptical at Y for 40 minutes and the round of wt machines both upper and lower (30-40 min). Today I did a Leslie Sansone Walk Slim DVD (4 miles). It is rainy here today, but tomorrow am set to walk outside with my friend.

Marie and Brian, You guys are getting me pumped to try a tri next year. Mel, is your tri connected with the YMCA and done indoors? If so, I know of a coworker who participated in one of those. My local Y doesn't do it that I know of, but I could find another one. My main concern would be the running. I had knee scope done in March for major torn cartiledge in my knee and am afraid to put too much high impact stress on the knee.

I did it..... I got off of the couch and rode my bike to the LAKE, then swam on the Lake, then rode it BACK!!!!! I got in about 3 to 4 hours of exercise today. The bike ride was 15 miles... IT felt so good to ride again... However, the hills kill me.

I am no Lance, but IT was a great victory for me.

diet was on track also today.....

Have a good one everyone
