I'm quite sure this is the case. The swimming class is an additional fee to membership, so I'll likely say something about not having enough space for class due to them not abiding by their pool schedule.

Love it! There is nothing like the meat and egg fast to get you back on track!

Vicki-- I purchased a skirt and a matching top yesterday... I was so upset with the size of clothing that I refused to look at sizes and just told my daughter to hand it to me.

IT was so funny because YESTERDAY when I wore the outfit I looked at the size and it was a 12... NOT 12 stretch.. That made me feel a lot better. MY 12 stretch are really 14 or 16 they are a little loose. Seeing that 12 tag was a blessing.

Still doing the meat and egg fast, I like it, thinking about doing it for just a few more days... Then I will add in the vegetables. IT gave me a huge push in the right direction.

Now I just need to add in the exercise.

WTG, BeThin. Those clothing sizes do strange things to our minds, don't they? And, they are just a number, just like the stupid scale. Our sanity should be based upon how we feel physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Not some darn number.

You comment above makes me want to ask our token male Brian here if pants sizes and the number on the scale rules a male's self esteem and so on?? Brian comment??

Last night I went for a walk with two of my three sons and my bf. We walked for about 45-60 minutes. I didn't look to see what time it was when we left. DS#3 rode his scooter though. For some reason he doesn't like to walk, he has to have wheels of some sort DS#2 had just gotten back from ROTC leadership training #2 so was in great shape.

This morning I did a new kettlebell workout I received last week. It was great. Now, off to mow the lawn.

Maria Great choice of music, that should get you pumped

I LOVE that song!!

Yesterday I Wogged with Diesel. It's a PITA but he loves it. My mile took me 17 + minutes.
I then walked 1/2 mile after I dropped him off in the A/C.

This morning I was out by myself. Did the mile in 15:09. No walking. (Still not as fast as the 4th of July run time)
Then walked a cool down mile in about 22 minutes.

Weather report:
Sunny
83°F
Feels Like
90°F
Updated Jul 13 09:45 a.m. ET
Wind: From NW at 3 mph
Humidity: 73%

I feel good (and sweaty). I ran without the brace and I think it's actually feeling better without the brace. We'll see how it feels later.

Well.. I did manage to eek out a 3 mile run this morning despite the fact that I didn't wanna. Looks like my lunch time walk is going to be rained out.

I don't like the new vanity sizing because now a size 4 is falling off of me and it's very hard to find anything smaller. I usually end up just letting the skirts sit low on my waist or wearing a belt to hold up my pants. I hate shopping, so I get frustrated and easily and give up. I generally just make do with what I have, but I know I'd look better in clothes that fit properly.

Mel, I think you answered yourself in the previous post: rehydration. Could that be the reason for the number on the scale today

I walked this morning for an hour with my "short" friend LOL. My legs and rear are tight and sore today, must be from the Kettlebell workout yesterday.

maria--- I think it is great that you run. I use to run a lot, now I make up excuses not to go... I run when I ref Soccer and I keep thinking it is enough knowing that it is not.

I am in an exercise RUT, I keep thinking that I will do it the next day or I am to busy or I look to big to do it. A lot of excuses everyday, my new on is "All my friends are losing faster than me so why bother". SILLY, I know....

I just need to get out there and do it. OR do it before I go to bed or first thing in the morning.

Right now I am working on the diet, keeping it faithful. I guess it will all workout in the end. I have not given up yet so that is a plus for me.

BeThin, you can do it. What helped me to get into a regular exercise pattern many years ago, was to set the alarm sooner and get my butt out of bed a do it first thing in the morning. I know that may not work for some people, but whatever time of day, just be religious about it and it will soon become a habit.

Mel, I walked with my short friend again today. I had to tell her to shorten her strides. She was taking too long of stride and seemed to be having difficulty keeping up.

I shouldn't call her my short friend because that indicates that I have other walking partners which I don't. Well, except my BF, and then I am the "short" walker LOL. He is 6'2" and I am 5'6". But, I think I keep up pretty good.

Ok BeThin - It's time to break the slump. It's not about having time; it's about making time. Exercise is non-negotiable. You would not go through the day without washing or brushing your teeth because it is part of your daily maintenance, your daily routine. Think of exercise the same way. Daily maintenance... just like getting washed and dressed for the day. It's not even about losing weight, it's about being fit and healthy. We're not getting any younger, and as aging women we must protect and strengthen our bone and muscle density so we don't end up hunched over and frail!

Set a time, pick a routine, then make yourself do it whether you feel like it or not. Keep a log. No excuses. Once you make it through a few weeks you'll start feeling better and energized. Then after a few more weeks, you'll have it cemented into your life as a habit.

You can do it; I KNOW you can. It's important to you or you would not be here.

BeThin...as cliche as it is it took me a while to figure out how to stop thinking and start doing. It seems to be working for me. The moment I start to rationalize why I can skip a workout I force myself to think about something else or go find something to do to distract the little anti-workout demon on my shoulder. Hate that little beast. Good luck on finding your path as it's different for everyone.

As for me, I'm getting really nervous about the Triathlon and even considered backing out. But then I decided...

1. This is a beginner triathlon; better take advantage of it.

2. It's only a few days prior to my "atkinsversary" and would be a wonderful grand finale to a year of success.

3. I already told everyone I was going to do it.

4. Once I do it, no one can take it away from me.

I went to the Y after work yesterday. I did the body sculpting class, then ran 3.1 miles on treadmill, then had swim class. I'm starting to feel a bit better about the swimming except that it is SO exhausting.

The Triathlon sight is about 2 hours from here but we'll be up that way this Friday to take my son to the airport in Raleigh. So, I think my BF and I will load up our bikes and drive the extra distance to Chapel Hill where the event is and try out the route.

I don't feel anywhere near ready, but I'm fairly certain I can complete the course without stopping.

I'll never forgot what a lady said on another thread about her race; she said, "I didn't finish last and I didn't throw up!" So THAT'S my goal!

Don't worry Brian, I know I would feel WAY worse if I backed out than if I muddle through it.

I did look at bikes and I saw the one you bought your wife at Dick's. It is very nice. But I also saw a hybrid comfort bike at a bike shop here. It's SO hard to decide. I want a bike I can ride on road and off road trails, and I want to do more rigorous mountain bike trails, but I also want to do this race. No one bike can do it all. I know the hybrid comfort bike will not be good for the race, but I think it would fit my everyday use best. We're going to be in a couple of bigger cities tomorrow, so we plan on finding some bike shops and sporting goods stores. If I don't get a bike tomorrow, I'll likely go to that bike shop Saturday and get the one I saw there.

I'm also going to get fitted for running shoes tomorrow at a running store up in Raleigh. They have a video gait analysis for state-of-the-art shoe fitting. And I hope to find Triathlon shorts and bra top while we're up there.

I'm feeling much better about swimming technique, however I still find it quite exhausting. I bought goggles last night so I can wear my contact lenses now. I need to time myself swimming. Since the event will be in a pool, they have everyone's start times staggered according to 100 yard swim time. So I'll need to include that on my registration.

Well it's 4 a.m. and time to get a move on! My little dog is impatiently waiting. Going to take her for a walk then do a 3.7 mile run.

Maria, it sounds as though things are moving along, you buying equipment etc.

I went to a water class at the Y last night because a friend said she was going to be there. It was called Aqua Pump. They used bouyant dumbells, I selected the middle "weight" and felt I could have used the heavy ones. We also used a noodle. I am glad, because when I go on vacation, I can take my son's noodle and workout in the pool. I feel as though I am good shape, but the flutter kicks that we did at the side and going across the pool kicked butt. "literally" HA. In fact, when we flutter kicking across the pool, I didn't get anywhere. I just stayed in one place LOL. I also noticed that there was a sign in the pool that said a swimmers mile is 1500 m and that it took 33 laps to complete a mile. A lap is up AND back!!!! Holy Cow. A land mile is 36 laps. Not sure what the difference is.

I went back to the Y this morning to do my regular routine there; elliptical for 40 minutes with the resistance and incline raised up. My HR got into the 150's. I also did my round of the weight machines.

I know you all are right concerning exercise. Yesterday I swam laps around my boat. IT was a workout, then I Referee soccer for the adult league. I got some running in yesterday doing that. I do feel sore today but I am happy about that soreness.

I use to get up every morning, go for a run or run on the dreadmill, bike or use the trainner down stairs and then lift weights. Come up, wash up and then start my day. I guess one day I stopped and I have not been back down there since spring.

I get depressed when I don't see FAST results, and I know better. AFter all this weight did not come on all at once and it will not go away all at once.

I need to JUST do it..... I know once I do it for just a few days in a row that I won't stop..... I need to realize that the exercise comes first in the morning and what ever else I do that day is just extra...

It is a mind set and one I really need to break, I really have been working on the diet and doing so well.. NO cheats for almost 2 weeks now... What concerns me is the portion size and I know I really need to watch that.

THANKS for the support everyone... I really needed it and the advice. GOING swimming all day today.. 15 boaters on the lake for a red-neck picnic....

I ran 3.7 miles this morning; then at the Y I did the body sculpting class, then 20 min on exercise bike, then swimming.

I worked on freestyle, breast stroke, back stroke, then she taught me the butterfly stroke which I absolutely hated and have no use for.

I used my goggles and wore my contact leses, so I felt much better. I can't do 10 laps of just freestyle; I have to change strokes every few laps. The breast stroke seems to give me a chance to catch my breath.

I have to get up at 3 am tomorrow to take my son to the airport up in Raleigh, so I'm off to bed!

Maria, Yeah for the goggles. I never understood the purpose of the butterfly stroke either except in the Olympics or other competative events. My youngest son refused to continue with swim lessons this year because he didn't pass his level last year because of the butterfly strok.(he is 9 and has taken lessons every summer since the age he could start, 4??) Anyways, he knows how to swim back stroke, crawl, tread water and float front and back. He started learning butterfly last year and saw no sense in it, I agree. He knows how to swim basically. This is different (he is son #3). My other two boys, who are quite a bit older (25 and 22), took lessons all the way up and son #1 was a lifequard at the Y when he was in HS.

I did a more gentler DVD today, 10 minute solution Pilates. I needed some much needed stretching done today after yesterdays wt machines.

Happy friday all

what is everyone doing for the weekend?

Vicki - I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates the butterfly. Quite honestly I don't even want to focus on that any further; I rather just improve on the other strokes. And I want to learn to do the proper flip turns at the end of the lanes. And I do love the goggles!

Mel - Wow what a pain! Getting new carpet is almost as bad as moving. You have to pack up and move everything that touches the floor.... which is EVERYTHING! Make them do it right or we'll all come up there and kick box them!

Well, we drove to the Triathlon race sight after dropping off my son at the airport this morning. We looked at the pool. There are 5 lanes and you go up and back each lane. Start times are staggered based on your 100 yard speed which is requested during registration. We had a difficult time locating the bike route as the map was very vague. We got the general idea by driving most of it; but it looked dangerous with traffic so we did not ride it. I sure hope traffic is blocked on race day. We did however ride about 9 miles in nearby area trails and we rode the 5K route. Then we ran the 5K route. Has a couple of killer hills.

Then we found some cool sports stores. I bought shorts to wear for the race and got fitted for new running shoes! I never had proper running shoes before! Maybe I'll run like a cheetah now!!! Also bought a swim cap to keep my hair out of my face while swimming.

I hope to get a new bike tomorrow, but it will not be a road bike. I'm going with a comfort hybrid which will not be good for the race, but that's what I'll get the most use out of overall.

I think my BF has finally warmed up to doing this triathlon! I don't think he really wanted to do it when I brought it up because of the swimming, but he felt better after seeing the pool. He did NOT want to swim in a lake. Makes no difference to me... water is water.

I guess the next step is to go ahead and register; which we will do tomorrow. No turning back!

Hey, I put some new shoes on,
And suddenly everything is right,
I said, hey, I put some new shoes on and everybody's smiling,
It's so inviting,
