I "napped" for 2 hours today!!!
Ended up walking the dog with my oldest son who was here to visit (think: eat! LOL). So I did get a mile walk in.

Hope everybody had a safe and fun 4th!!

I wish I could have gotten in a nap... I have been so tired this week. It has not been good.

I attened my uncles funeral on the 4th.... It was sad, but we knew it was going to happen. Today is the first day we have seen sunshine in about two weeks. Crazy weather.

I am going bike riding today and out on the lake. Lots of swimming there.

Sorry about the funeral BeThin, they are tough, even when they are expected .
Take advantage of that sunshine while you have it! I know, the rain here has been nuts too. Have to get out early, or forget it!
I took Diesel with me and did a mile WOG (walk/jog) which took forever it seemed like. But he is a happy dog now and will sleep! LOL.
I think I'm going to go try another 1/2 mile, just because I don't feel like I did enough. Then off to work!
Have a great day everyone!!

Hope everyone had a happy 4th of July!!! I was out of town over the weekend. We went to an old historical city called Old Salem for the 4th of July. Took our bikes and spent over 3 hours riding Sunday morning. They have WONDERFUL off-road bike trails around a lake and through shady trees.

I ate and drank too much but the worst thing I did was indulge in a a couple of small pumpkin muffins and a dinner roll. The scale showed it this morning. Good thing Mel is not here to reprimand me. Think I'll do meat and eggs for a couple of days.

Barb! I'm SO glad you did it! I KNEW you could!!!

BeThin - So sorry about your uncle.

Hi all, I went to the Y today and did 30 minutes on elliptical and did my round on the wt machines. Later I will be walking with BF.

Maria, does your Y have the Y Milers club where you accumulate miles by converting various minutes from other activities and get rewards? I just found out about it.

I don't think so, but I can check. My Y is very small and poor, very limited and basic. But I'm still learning what they have. I need to set up an orientation for the weight machines.

I go tonight to start my swim classes. I've been swimming all my life, but I'm hoping to learn proper techniques. Class does not start until 7:15 pm, but I get off work at 5:30 and will go straight over. I'll do cardio until time for class; bike, elliptial, treadmill. I already did upper body hand weights this morning after walking my dog.

Thanks everyone... Aunt Kate died 45 days before Uncle Joe, it was hard but it will be ok.

WE have a beautiful week of sun comming our way.. I am so excited. This summer has been cold and wet so far.

I weighed my self in to day at 180.4... I was 174.... To say the least I am just so tired of making up excuses. There is NO reason why I am not exercising each and every day.... THERE is NO excuse for why I have cheated. SO, today I am going to make a promise to myself to stop making the excuses and get off my but and Just do it.

Wish me luck.

Got some biking in this weekend and rode the upcoming triathlon course. I definatly have some work to do over the next couple of weeks. Will be swimming tonight followed by a spinning class. I did not run last night because I gave blood. I should have passed as I only have 3 weeks of training until this event and I cannot really afford an off week.
The weather here has been crazy cold and wet...where's Al Gore, we need to talk? I am just happy that the pool at my Y is indoor or I would not get any swimming in.

Bethin, hang in there, your wt. will come off again.

Brian, it sounds great about your biking, cool and rainy here over the 4th too.

I went to the pool yesterday and tried some lap swimming (haven't done it in years). Man, oh man was i out of breath LOL. I did the breast stroke 2 laps separated by 1 lap of backstroke and 1 lap of the crawl. That should be my next exercise challenge, to swim laps without getting out of breath so easily.

Today I walked for about one hour and 20 minutes very briskly between appts. in the next town over and I found some hills!!! I felt I got a good workout today.

BeThin - You can do it. Maybe set some mini goals along the way. Do you keep an exercise log? That helped keep me accountable. If I missed a day for no good reason I had to write the word "EXCUSE" on my spreadsheet for that day and highlight it in red. And since I did NOT want to write that down, I made sure I got moving! I also used to keep a food log, but quit a few months ago. I started food logging again yesterday. I think I'm consuming more than I realize, so I want to keep track for awhile.

Brian - Wow, it's great that you are so fully committed! Your event is right around the corner now.

Vicki - You're right about swimming being exhausting! I'm with you; I want to build up some lap swimming.

I did upper body hand weights yesterday morning; then I went to the Y last night and did 3.1 miles on the treadmill. I would have gone further but it was SO hot and stuffy in there.

Then I had my first swimming class. I feel better about knowing what's I've been doing wrong. I naturally tend to frog kick so switching to proper kicking will take some work. But she did give me pointers on kicking, stroking, and breathing. I've found that I hold my breath too long, so by the time I come up for air, I'm gasping. Ah well, practice makes perfect.

Starting the first of July I was going to write down my exercise on the calander and I have not wrote down one thing...

I was going to start a food journal, and I still have not done that. HERE we are, in our second weekof July and I feel like I have done nothing.

Sometimes I feel like I am just not into it, like I have gave up but I have not!!!!!! I really need to get out of this RUT and really take time for me and get this done. I only had 30 to loose now I have 40........ I don't want that number to grow, I want it to decrease.

I use to lift weight every other night before I went to bed and I loved it, now I feel like I have to drag a heavy ball and chain down the step to do anything. Perhaps I have gain back so much that my body does not want to work out. I feel crapy and tired all of the time. I know most of this is mind over matter and I just need to do it.

I swim when were on the boat, I just have not been feeling good... and that is just another excuse. I know I will snap out of this. So here is my plan

For 3 days I am going to do a Meat and eggs clean.... I am starting today on that.....
for the next 3 days I am NOT going to bed with out lifting weights, even if it is just a few minutes. AND there is NO reason why I can not take a 30 minute walk, I know on Thursday and Friday I will be refereeing soccer and that is 2 hours of exercise, however I am more out of shape for soccer than I have ever been. I might weigh less, but I am totally out of shape.

IF I can get through 3 days, I know I can break this slump!!!!

Wish me luck.

BeThin JUST DO IT I know, easier said than done. But, when I started this WOE a little over a year ago, that is the phrase I had to repeat over and over. I had to "white knuckle" it for about a week before it became habit. I have been a regular exerciser for several years though, around 5-10 years. Only taking off for surgeries or illness. So, thankfully, exercise is into my routine now. I exercise first thing in the morning regardless of what time I get up. When I am working, that means setting the alarm early enough to get 'er done. Otherwise, I get too busy or tired to fit it in if I don't.

Barb Where are you, still napping LOL

Brian I just noticed your stats. Congrats, almost 100 lbs off, WTG

Maria In your swimming class, is it to better your technique of the crawl stroke or any stroke? My Y offers some fitness type aqua classes such as Water Pump and Aqua Lo where buoyant dumbells are used. They also have Water Walking. But, most of those classes are offered only during the day. Only Aqua Lo and Water Pump are offered in evening every other day.

Today, I stayed in and did the Firm's Cardio Sculpt Fusion DVD for something different.

gulp

Glad to hear your swimming class is going so well. I think this is by far the hardest thing for people to learn. So much different that Running, Cycling as we have been doing that our entire lives. Keep at it you will put it all together and once you do it really feels great.

Hah, I hate the goofy sayings and that but now that I have been working on this so hard it really is a perfect way to describe it. I got off my ass and just did it, it really is that simple.

BeThin - I think you will feel much better after a few clean days of Meat and Eggs. At least I always do. Anytime I gain a little weight or feel in a slump, doing the Meat and Egg fast seems to be almost like a cleasing for me; a re-energizing. Helps me regain balance, if that makes sense.

I had one of those sayings too! I always said to myself, "NO EXCUSES!" My motto was, "2009 is the year of no excuses." But now that exercise is a habit, I don't need my motto anymore.

I want to learn as many different strokes as possible during the class, and then incorportate lap swims into my exercise routine. Ours does have some water aerobic classes too, but like you said, they are offered during the day when I cannot go.

The only thing I did not like about the class was that they allowed the open swim to continue during class time which makes it difficult to swim the length of the pool without running into children. The brochure said that open swims are not permitted during class times; but they obviously do not abide by that.

Also, I didn't think about my contact lenses. She kept telling me to keep my face in the water and look at the bottom of the pool. I kept reisisting at first, knowing that my lenses would float away; but I finally just had to go with it and sure enough I lost a brand new lens. I'll know to take them out next time so I'm not distracted.

But this left me wondering what to do in a race. If I don't have lenses during the swimming part, I'll not be able to see for the biking and running part. I guess I could leave my glasses with my bike and put them on when I get there.

Many swimmers wear goggles, would that work so you can keep in the contacts Maria?

You need to pick up a pair of goggles. I would suggest something from Aqua Sphere. They are a little bigger than a traditional goggle and much more comfortable for us recreational swimmers. The little small ones seem like they put to much pressure on my eye socket and I eventually develop a headache from them. I picked mine up at Dicks Sporting Goods for around 15 or 20 bucks and worth every penny.

Get clear lenses unless you plan to do most of your swimming outside.

Welcome home Mel.

This morning I did a new DVD, Core Fusion: pilatesplus. It is a combo of Lotte Berk Method, Pilates, Yoga etc using your own body weight for resistance. Man, did I sweat.

Mel - Positive thoughts coming your way!

Vicki - What's your favorite DVD? I've really only done hand weights with Kathy Smith or Shred with Jillian Michaels.

Lora - What kind of weight training? at a fitness center? I still need to schedule my weight machine orientation at the YMCA. I'm with you on the non-binge eating plan. I'm doing meat and eggs yet again to get a grip on my portion control and binge issues.

I went to the Y after work! I did the body sculpting class which was really only 30 min by the time the instructor got organized and started. Basically some warm up, then hand weights and abs, then cool down. Kathy Smith is much tougher.

The I ran 30 min on the dreadmill but it is mercilessly hot in that cardio room. Then I had my swim class! I'm amazed and how much easier swimming is when you know proper techniques. I just wish they would clear the rampant kids out of the pool during classes; there is no room to practice. Then I laid in the sauna for a few minutes before showering and coming home.

I rewarded myself for a good day with a shot of brandy in my nightly cup of tea.

I feel good.

It's not hurting. But I think I am afraid it's going to. I'll work on that. We'll be running tomorrow at TA I am pretty sure. So that's all I'm going to do today.

OMG. Danny killed us this week with the arm workouts. Everybody was crying We were actually happy to go out and run last night. I have a friend coming Saturday to give it a try. She was intrigued with my whining. She asked me if she's "gonna hurt". I told her "Oh yeah" and she said. "I need that! Sign me up!" What a strange lot we are, huh?

Lora good luck with your eating goal and starting a new wt. training plan.
Mel You are too funny. Up with the chickens must make you looney LOL.
Maria I don't really have a favorite exercise DVD/tape. I started off with The Firm videos years ago and like those, even some of the current ones. I have some Kathy Smith, Leslie Sansone, Tammi Webb, Susan Powter before she got weird, Karen Voigt, Gilad etc. I do have one Denise Austin, but am not crazy about her because of her voice. LOL I can't believe that there isn't a swimming time for either adults only or lap swim only? If there is and they aren't monitoring it, say something. You are paying for the membership and they are advertising what is available.

I went to the Y this morning and did 40 minutes on elliptical and the wt machine routine.

I have been doing a meat and egg 3 day.. I am at 176 today from 180... YEA... I feel better today, have more energy and have set some mini goals. First eating right, then I will throw in the exercise. Wish me luck.

WTG, BeThin!

I exercised to Gilad on Fit TV this morning: Bodies in Motion and Body Sculpt.

I went to Penneys today, not planning to shop for clothes, but was curious to try on some size 8 pants or shorts. I have 10s and 12s now, and some of the 10s are loose. I got into one brand of 8's wow. Granted, it could be vanity sizing, but who cares LOL. I didn't buy them, I have enough clothes now.
