Del, I'm basically in the same boat as you as far as weight/menopause issues...not getting anywhere fast! I'm baffled as to what to do next....when I asked the gyno about it last spring she told me to ask regular dr. for diet pills...no way! Then of course there are the issues with my knee which don't help.
I've got an appt. with the ortho dr. on Tuesday. I've been having a lot of trouble the last few days so I'm not getting much for workouts...I skipped today because it's so sore and I know I can't do the walk from the parking lot to the gym...and right now none of my home gym stuff is available due to the work being done in the basement...grrrr! So I sit here frustrated to death because I can't work out and I can't lose weight! For everyone else....good job on the workouts! I envy all of you right now!

FieldofRoses1 - Welcome aboard
![]() Hey buddies... I haven't been able to exercise in the last few days... I had a Charlie horse in my leg not one night, but 3 nights in a row (and like sometimes 2 times in one night). These things hurt something AWFUL !!!!!! and have totally left me SORE BEYOND BELIEF. Anybody else get these? I have never had this many this often so, I'm baffled as to the WHY? ![]() i hope to be back in action next week. ![]() |

Good morning, TM Buddies! Glad to read your posts.
Ladylove, I hope that you will be feeling better soon. Yes, those Charlie Horse pains are terrible. Take care and take it easy - we will see you on the boards when you are back to yourself. Big ![]() I am truly convinced that my metabolism is down to zero due to this menopause situation. So, I am doing interval walking on the TM. I read somewhere that doing interval walking boosts your metabolism, making calorie burning last longer than walking at a steady pace. I am not pleased with the fact that I am not burning as much calories with the preprogrammed workouts on my TM. Here's my stats: Thurs, 10/29/09 - 50 mins, 3.08 miles, 473 cals. Fri, 10/30/09 - 51 mins, 2.26 miles, 356 cals. Sat, 10/31/09 - 60 mins, 3.51 miles, 544 cals. With my steady pace of walking I burn 600 cals in 45 mins. But, since my body is used to it, the change should make a difference. We will see. This morning, I walked the 4th preprogram workout and it is more tailored to my 4.0 mph pace. Yesterday, I did the 3rd one that had me just about running at 4.5 and 5.0 which is a no-no for my knee. I attempted to walk as fast as I could and had developed pains in my left hip. Not as young as I used to be - actually, I think I woke up muscles that I generally don't push at that speed. Nonetheless, I decided to walk the final program this morning. It feels great. Well, I must finish a Winnie the Pooh Diaper Cake today for delivery tomorrow. Will check in later. Take care everyone!

Today was bike time at the gym....tomorrow we'll be starting up the boot camp class again...trainer is back after his 2 week time off...there are 4 more weeks of class.
Tomorrow afternoon is my appt. with the ortho dr. about my knee and then new problems I've been having. Hoping we can come up with a suitable solution to keep it from getting worse before the holidays and then maybe surgery after the first of the year. |

Boot camp class is back! Today's class was good! He modified a lot for me when I told him I was having more trouble with my knee.
Had my dr. appt. today and it looks like I'll be getting a new knee after the first of the year. |

Linda,
So sorry to hear that the knee has to be replaced. Quite a few of my friends and family members had it done. Major thing is to follow the doctor's orders regarding the therapy. I wish you all the best. Yesterday was a rest day for me. In minor pain for the past few days with my left hip socket. Guess the interval walking had an effect on me when I had to walk 5.0 - 5.5 speed. So, today, I walked 45 mins at 3.3 mph, 45 mins, 2.35 miles, 252 cals. Linda, Field of Roses - good job on the workouts! I will be walking slower until it heals. I am home today from work. Getting ready to do some shopping for mom and hang out with her for a few hours. Have a great day everyone! |

Sorry you hip was giving you trouble Del. And a new knee for you Linda! I am sure you will fallow all orders to the letter and it will be a great success.
At last I got back to the gym and did a great Body Combat class. Hi to everyone! |

I will definitely follow orders! I'm going to talk to the trainerat the gym to see if there are any exercises I can do ahead that will help with rehab later. I will have to go to a joint replacement info class ahead and maybe do some PT before the surgery, too. Now I need to start planning for meals, etc. for when I'm not able to do it. DH will be out of town when I have the surgery and at least a week after....I'll be in the hospital part of that time so it won't be a problem. DS will take time off work when I go home to help till DH is back. And there's a bunch of family I can call if I need....
Today I did some bike time as well as a short stint on the cross trainer to see if my knee would be ok on it....it was good but I stopped after 10 minutes just to be safe. |

Just logging in - no workout yesterday nor today. Taking a break for a few days as my left hip area is still paining me. Next week, I will be back on schedule provided no more issues with the hip area. I will start off slowly at that point.
TM Buddies - keep up the good workouts! Linda, you are definitely an inspiration - you are making your plan way ahead of time - good for you! Have a great weekend! |

I did a Body Balance class this morning and strangely the core exercises made my hip joints ache. How weird is that.

Yes, the exercise required one to keep one's legs raised and there were a number of rotations, I found it quite uncomfortable. (While lying down of course!)
