Maybe my knee just hurts so bad I am shutting it out!
My legs are slightly sore but not like the first time I did them. Maybe just not "yet"! I am really concentrating on form. I even got all 3 of her books from the library, so I think I am doing most of them right, anyway. I have to stop NUMEROUS times during the abs part!![]() |

![]() i think it depends on the fact that you recruit more and more muscle fibers as long ans you get trained, and your posture changes as well..it' s a sign of improvement, am I right? Btw, I did an hour of Evo today. Does anyone know how many reps I am supposed to do for the hips and behind exercises? I usually pulse 50-60 times, but I think they are few... Thanks for your help! Dieting while doing Callanetics question
I am doing Callanetics 3x a week. I am at workout #7 (just starting). I really like the wo but would like to add some cardio. Today I jogged for 25-30 minutes. My diet is WW with a lowcarb focus. I try to get no more than 80 net carbs a day. Well today after jogging I had a HUGE carb craving. It came on about 1.5 hours after jogging. I never have that with Callanetics! What do you all do when that happens? Should I back off cardio? Should I up my protein or calories/points? Are my carbs too high?
I have about 10 pounds to lose btw. Man! I just wanted to stick my face in the tortilla chips bag and wear it like a feedbag! Moooo! Thanks for any thoughts on this. Alexandra |

Hi all!
I've been reading through these threads for awhile now and finally ordered three Callenetics DVD's from Amazon this morning (10 in10, Evolution, and Super callenetics). I did Callenetics "back-in-the day" (early 80's) when it first became popular with excellent results! I will be here with bells on in the March thread! See you then! |

Thanks for the welcome Viv!
I've been reading lots lately too! (At work since retail is so slow) I know sometimes it's so hard to keep that balance in our lives! ![]() |

L-Glutamine is an excellent supplement for controlling carb cravings. You can buy it in capsules or in powder form. For immediate effect, you can break open the capsule and pour the powder under your tongue. Works like a charm. As for the imbalance that might be causing the cravings, might want to take a look at the macro percentages of fat and protein too. I'd be interested to see what they are for you. Depending on that, I might have a suggestion. PM me if you want. |

Hello! I am new to Callanetics. I have Callanetics Evolution and have only done about 2 hours worth. I really like it and want to stick with it.
![]() However I've managed to hurt my back, my mid-back, and I feel so dumb. I can't believe I've done this to myself. I think I did it when I was doing one of the stretches. The one where you lie on your back and lift one leg, knee bent, and lean it over your other leg. I think I may have tried to force it too far over. My back didn't hurt while I was doing it, but this morning when I picked up my daughter, it hurt. I had to put her right back down. It doesn't feel like true pain, but I get a sensation or warning pre-pain that tells me if I twist or bend my back any farther then it I will really be in pain. I don't know if that makes any sense, sorry it is hard to describe. The culprit was either that strech or the ab work I had done this past monday. If it was the ab exercises, then I guess my form was way off and I hadn't realized. I used to do pilates, so I know somewhat what I am supposed to do, but maybe I'm so out of shape and pushed myself too far. Though, again, nothing hurt while I was doing it, or even afterward. I never even felt uncomfortable at the least. My back felt a little better this afternoon, which I took as a good sign. I just finished another 45 minutes of callanetics, focusing on leg, pelvic, thigh exercises and warm-up and finishing stretches. I was very gentle and slow going. Now I wondering if I should have skipped it. It hurts a little now, and I can feel it between my shoulder blades now. I'm just so mad at myself. I should probably rest and not do any workouts, right? Not even stretching? Any advice or support would be so helpful. I am so disappointed. Thanks for letting me vent too. Maybe I will start to feel better now that I have typed it all out. |

Oh, and I can walk comfortably. I went grocery shopping and was able to lift my daughter up and into the shopping cart. I've been picking up around the house. But there were little pains if I twisted too fast or bent a certain way. And now, after doing the callanetics workout, if I sit it feels a little uncomfortable and feels a little strained when I stand. But I am up and about to cook dinner, so I don't think things are that bad off ... hopefully.
ETA - Should I have made this into a new thread? Maybe I should have .... Last edited by Clannad; 02-25-2009 at 02:04 PM.. |

Hi, and welcome! I am impressed that you are doing Evolution! I am new, too, and I started with the 10/10 and that is a struggle for me! (On day 3 today). Are you sure that DVD is a good place to START? (I dunno, because mine is still being shipped!)
Sorry that you are injured, though! We start out SO enthusiastic, huh?![]() I do know that rest is the best if you have a back injury (RN, here!). I don't mean bed rest, but not hard callanetics, either! Maybe you can do the ones that don't put any strain on your back at all. I certainly wouldn't do the abs ones for a week or so and let things heal! Injuring yourself further will only slow down your whole program! I injured my knee (I really don't know how, but maybe running on the treadmill) and I am unable to do the pelvic scoops very well. (I have to hold onto a barre and "sort" of do them!) I have an appt. with the Ortho doctor March 2 and think I will have to have arthoscopic surgery. (meniscus)![]() At any rate we are glad to have you here! Hope your back feels better real soon! |

Next time try going down only half way then scoop up and try to use your thighs and inner thighs to bring you up. See if this makes a difference and then you can gradually lower your buttocks back down lower each time. Also pause before you scoop up to place focus on your thighs. |

Hi, Ouch! Sorry to hear you hurt your back ![]() Do you have low back problems at all or any past injuries? If the cause was from the low back stretch at the end of the dvd it could mean that you moved too quickly in to position. Did you have your pelvic floor engaged? It's important that you don't force the leg over and you move smoothly. It's Important that you stay stretched out of the pelvis keeping your pelvic floor as tight as you can at all times during the exercises and stretches. This is what protects the spine. If you collapse inwards this will put pressure on your back as your spine will compress. When you are doing the lying down ab exercises and if you feel any low back discomfort just bend the raised leg or legs and you can bring your knees in towards your chest until you feel the low back relax. For the first ab exercise don't lower your torso too far back to the floor, so stay more upright and keep your arms waving a bit lower. I hope this helps and let me know how you go with this.

Is Evolution too advanced? I thought I read somewhere on one of these threads that 10/10 or Evolution were both good places to start. But maybe I misread. I can order the 10/10 if that would be a better place for me to start. And thank you for your advice about getting proper rest so my back can heal. I certainly don't want to take any more time off than I have to. I may just do what I did today, callanetics that focus on leg, thighs and pelvic exercises (I may omit that last one). I'm sorry about your knee. I hope it does not set you too far back. Knee injuries seem to take a while to recover from. My husband hurt his knee a few years ago and is just now getting back to his competitive running and biking. He has been working out over the years, but not to his fullest until now. Hopefully you will not have to have surgery. |
