Progress

I am REALLY feeling my abs. And, I think, my pelvic floor!

I have done 7 hours this month so far and have done it 2 days in a row, twice. I think may have been the difference.

I was always extremely sore while doing the ab work that I hate so much...and Sunday, for the first time, I noticed that I was sore AFTER. A nice sore. VERY aware of my abs.

Sandra, maybe I *will* come to like the ab work after all. This will be the first time I've ever stuck with anything long enough to see any kind of results.

I am so glad I stuck it out. Sometimes, I feel like I"m never going to get it; then all of a sudden, it makes sense.

I was wondering, what do you all have to say to the people that say muscles don't "tone" , they can only build ..

I've heard this from many people and they insist that there is no way to make muscles long and lean like most of us on this board are trying to look. They argue that muscles can only reshape in one way and that is to get bigger (bulkier) , and the most effective way to achieve that is to lift heavy weights. Personally, I don't like this look at all and that's why i choose to do bar-style exercises like Callanetics and Bar Method which claim to create long and lean muscles and a feminine silhouette.

Just wondering if you all have any input on this matter .. This issue may have been addressed on previous threads but I just joined , that's why I'm asking .. Thank you !
I can personally attest to the fact that muscles CAN become longer, less bulky. Some people "muscle up" easier than others. Fact. I'm one of them. I'm genetically predisposed to this. Great for men, not so great for women, but it's what I was dealt.

I've gone the "heavy weights" route before, once at a gym with the assistance of a personal trainer, and once on my own at home. Both times, I began bulking with an unsightly result. My trainer tried to get me to add in more stretching after my workouts to see if it would help. (Now why would he suggest that if stretching a muscle doesn't help to lengthen a muscle?)

Bottom line: I've found the reshaping of my muscles via Callanetics is a far more desireable result than the results I've gotten with heavy weights. There are celebrities, by the way, who will agree and who practice other forms of strength training due to their propensity to bulk. Jennifer Anniston is one of them.

Some people can lift heavy and it does FABULOUS things for their body recomposition. Others, maybe not so fabulous.

One plan does not fit all.

I have to confess that doing yesterday's session was HARD. I'm not used to doing Callanetics two days in a row, and last night's workout was brutal.

I feel like I have a bunch of partners in crime right here on this forum for motivation and accountability, but I can do the workouts on my own time and schedule. Best of both worlds.

So far <evil grin> I have had my husband and 11 year old daughter join me... my husband and daughter both found it challenging in different ways and both want to do it again. This time (2nd) dh actually tried to the very end. He is much less flexible than even Judy, so would benefit a lot from the type of instruction Ben has been working on. He felt good at the end, though and thought it would really help him over time.

My mom ( a long time Yoga person) is interested, too. She likes that it has a slow pace. She tried t-tapp and found it way too fast and not relaxing in the way she enjoys. We'll see if I can actually get her to try it!

I would love an instructor in the area or even other exercise buddy's. Anyone in Western NC?

I think I am just persistent... possibly, just a pain...

Good luck! It is fun to share and I find myself learning a lot from the process, too.

You're right, my schedule is insane working every other week night shift. It would be a nightmare to find someone who would workout with me consistently. It is so nice having this forum to keep me honest. Although, when I do workout with someone, I usually push myself a little harder and last a little longer. I must be a little competitive. Never knew that about myself...

TFJ, my son is 11 and he rolls on the floor laughing at me when I do Evolution. He thinks he is way to macho for that stuff. I usually get irritated at him and banish him to his room. My workout times are the only thing holding my sanity together so he and I have a rule now, no talking to mom when she is working out unless you are bleeding. Evolution is so relaxing and it also takes concentration so I get miffed when he messes me up.
The main reason I want my Mom to work out with me is because she has gained a lot of weight recently and she is always complaining about it. Plus, I think it would really help her stress level.

Alright, I'll quit writing this novel and get back to work.

Don't understand

why my measurements are the same. I have been doing Callanetics 10/10 and Evolution faithfully for a year and my waist/thighs/stomach etc are the same size.

I am 54, 5ft2ins, 108lbs. I follow the concepts, believe I am doing the exercises pretty well, but no results in size. Any insights?

Thanks

Hi!
I've taken the past week off to take care of a few things, plus my body was telling me it wanted me to rest. So i listened.
On Monday i'll restart this time doing Super C for the week, after that my daughter will be home for 2 weeks. Happy holidays

I love it! My 11 year old started out the same way. Ms. in shape, you look funny, I could do that.... However, before Evolution, I had her do t-tapp and Chicometrics. Chicometrics she finally acknowledged some challenge... plus, she actually had muscle cuts on her stomach the next day. And sore muscles! By the time she tried Evolution I had worn her down! She is plenty strong enough, but the flexibility aspect does challenge her. When she groans, I say, "Oh wow... your dad can do that one!" Amazingly... she has to do it then!

Since trying it, she actually interrupts less. She is starting to understand physically that I need to focus!! I have her do it either with me or at another time, since she likes to have me look at her form now.

I love having the forum for accountability. I also write all of my workouts in my planner. It is fun having company, but I couldn't rely on them to be as regular about working out as I need to be... so there is no frustration because I just see each time as a special gift.

Today, I seem to have interest again from both of them. So, here is where it is mixed... I have usually already completed my work out, but now I am waiting on them...

TFJ

P.S. My teen bought me t-tapp originally to help me get back into shape. After having t-tapped for a while before college... she no longer joins me while at home, but she also never, ever says a word about how easy any of my work outs are!!

Evolution number 6 done this morning. My 21 year old son runs for the hills as soon as I turn it on, seems he doesn't want to see the pelvic excercises! Now if I could only get the dog to leave me alone!

I love the accountability also, and can't wait to record each session!

Evolution #13 done for December.

My teen would run through walls... all it would take are the exciting pelvic rotations in front of her boyfriend!

No wonder she takes me so seriously when I say it is our exercise time!

Twyla, thank you for your response. I do drink tons of water but that is excellent advice for anyone trying to lose weight. I think my issue is portion sizes, I mostly eat tons of steamed veggies (literally, huge portions, not little piles giant platefuls and I enjoy every minute of it); but I think the issue is the tonnage and not what I'm eating (I dont do 'healthy' junk food like bars/cereal/organic processed foods/etc), so calories only real come from veggies. i limit starchy veggies (to my daily sweet potato portion) and eat no grains or fruit but I guess I overdue the veggies (I did the fat flush a month ago and they have this unlimited veggie policy which I really take advantage of and still do).

Anyways I have a question about the thigh exercise and the hip/thigh. With the thigh exercise- where is the push suppose to come from? Do you push with the butt- is it a pulse from this area or what? Everytime I do this move I'm unsure of whether im doing it properly- should the butt remain tight the entire time or do you release/tighten with each pulse?

In the hip/thigh I started using Sandra's position from the pictures she posted, prior to this I had been propping myself up on my hand/arm which i kept totally straight- so I was holding myself up higher. In this position I felt much more 'challenged' but I'm not sure if it was suppose to feel this way. when I do it Sandra's way I feel the area working- I get the quiver- but it doesn't feel like im getting tight etc. Is the feeling of the muscles working suppose to be subtle or is it suppose to feel really hard.

Am (not Pm) done yesterday and Cardiocallanetics today. It was my first session and I loved it!! I'm going to try to do it 3 times a week. I am debating whether or not to attempt Supercallanetics next week as well. For those of you who do it, how many hours of 10/10 or Evolution did you do before you tried it?
