Got my elastic bands and am using them know in my work out. I really do like using them to.
They have my arms and shoulders sore alittle but that will go away in time. I think those muscles just have not been used enough thats all.
But I really do like them alot.

Hi Mary,

Great! for you geting the bands nice! Job! Don't overdo it go slow until you get use to the muscles that are in play now. I can do 1000 reps with the exercise bands but will feel sore so I only do 75.

I always liked doing the exercise bands too. I used them for one year until I joined my first club.

Have fun with your new workout routine. Enjoy!

Jim

I am sore some but not to bad. And I am starting out slow with them to and doing only a few different ones at a time and will just work my way up until I can do more of them.
I really like the elastic bands alot. Don't know why I did not use them before.

Any new updates

Hi all,

Nice start over the past few weeks. Summer is within site.

I am continuing with strength building and doing well. I have added the Charles Atlas course to my home a.m. workout. I have added a brisk walk at noon nice weather is here. My afternoon club workouts are going well. I am adding weight lifting as much as possible to get the muscle built.

I am looking forward to the Fat Burn program scheduled to start in May.

Just wanted to give an update. Anything new or just let us know how you are doing.

Jim

I am doing good with the elastic bands. I realy enjoy using them.
Still have some muscle soreness in spots but its gradually going away. Think I used some muscles that has never been used before or something.

Glad to see you all doing good to with your exercises.

Hi Mary,

Maybe, you should stretch before using the bands. If you aren't? Warm the body up with a little cardio first.

I am wondering why Brian or Ileen hasn't thought of that for you yet. They must be busy on the other board.

Stretch before exercise and after.

Do at least two min. cardio before lifting/band use etc.

Just a couple of thoughts. If you already do all that then take it easy until you build up the strength. Don't hurt yourself!

Take care and talk with you soon.

Jim

Progress Update

Hi all,

The strength Training is going well. My routine has changed a little I've added a.m. Charles Atlas with a few yoga moves for fun.

I am trying A.C.T. drink mix it is a good product. I had stalled at my weight and this helped me lose 5 lbs. first week. I look to lose 1-3 per week until goal. I will give you a status on every Friday. I joined the Maint. folks on that board so you can see my weight posted there on Fridays.

Hope all is well. I wonder what happened to some folks who joined us here. I guess nice weather and the holidays has some on the road. etc...

Hi Jim,

I'm not posting much these days, but am well into my Slow Burn......have completed 14 sessions. Would have more in, but missed a couple last week due to 'life happening'.

I absolutely love this training, along with my trainer.......the gym I go to now is well equipped, and the trainer watches every move I make. Naturally he needs to tend to others, but made the comment that even though I don't think he's watching, he is. How true that is..

He has increased my weight on lower body each time I go, but my upper body is a bit weaker, as it is with most women, so he is more cautious with that.

I am in the gym for 20-25 minutes, and when I am walking out that door, I am shaking......especially my arms.....I sometimes wonder how I can handle the steering wheel coming home........

I haven't weighed myself or measured, and don't intend to in the near future. The fit of my clothes is the best barometer, and when I get to a certain point, I may get on the scale........not now.....

Oh, btw what is the A.C.T drink, and is it readily available?

Anyway, thought I'd give you an update.....

Take care, and KUTGW!!

Hi Sazzie,

Great to hear how your program is working for you. The attention by a trainer is wonderful. Keep going. I saw a show and after exercise give a gentle massage to arms legs when done to help with recovery.

DrinkACT.com is the site I think you can buy. I use body trim I like how it works. Not sure if it works for all yet.

Take care KUTGW too

Jim

Chef, I do stretch before my work outs. The soreness in my arms is about all gone now. I just was using some muscles that I had not been using thats all.
My legs just seem not to want to get the muscle strength back in them thats all. I have talked to my doctor about this and he is going to give me another test on them to seem whats going on with them. The last test I had on them still showed I had alot of muscle loss in them and nerve damage. But I am walking ok, just wobbly at times thats all because I don't have much strength in them.
My doc told me to keep up my exercise like I have been doing so I am, I keep hopeing one day it will all pay off.

Hi Mary,

Nice return post... I wonder if you can benefit from Muscle Building Supplements like GNC has. Of course under the Doctor's supervision. I wonder if anyone else here has had a similar problem. I overused a bicep doing 300 pushups often during a day it took all day to do them. I had to rest one arm for two weeks once. I wonder if you need recovery time and only do exercise two days a week controlling weight by diet the other days.

I love to do Yoga and that should help you if you try or have you tried Yoga before. I know Jess does Yoga maybe she can give you some insight.

I have to tell you, I can't really recommend that you spend any money on expensive nano-vapor-explode-fat-burner supplement stuff. I use whey protein and creatine, 5g/day. I buy inexpensive large bags of whey protein supplement and large tub of powdered creatine monohydrate. I take large quantities of fish oil and some vitamins. That is basically it, everything else is from food.

Hi Brian,

Thank you for the post-reply... I was thinking of a product that would help Mary to rebuild muscle not a fat burner. Perhaps there is a product that fits with Mary's situation and that a Doctor would approve of but hasn't thought of yet?

Have a great weekend!

My doctor told me the same thing about decreasing my exercise days to maybe two days a week instead of most everyday like I was doing, so I am trying that now. Maybe resting the legs some between exercise will help them more.
I know when I went to rehab with them after my back surgeries I was going three days a week, Mon. Wed. and Fri. I was told they do that so you can have one day rest in between. But I am going to try only twice a week for awhile to see how that does.

I have been trying to increase my moving around the house more to, instead of just sitting here at my computer most all day like I have been doing to. Not doing any exercise but just moving, walking , washing clothes ,cleaning house etc.
My hubby was doing most it beacuse its so hard for me to do it, but I am now making the effort to do it myself and just move the old body some.

Whey(or whey with casein), fish oils, and some creatine is all one needs. The rest is a waste and a hoax..

Hi Mary,

I think Ileen and Brian gave some excellent advise as I had hoped for. You are doing just fine with all. Just keep going and listen to the advise of our learnered friends.

CLA ? Ileen and Brian

Hi Brian and Ileen,

I heard about and am looking into CLA from GNC I see a post about dosage on the Vit and Supp. board.

My question is have you heard about this CLA and if so what do you think about it.

I read that you can lose 11 lbs. in 6 months OK and if you take approx. 6g a day you can lose fat and build lean muscle. The higher dose give the lean muscle build the lower dose just cuts the fat????

Thanks again for you post to all and Mary. I always look forwad to your comments.

Today is my exercise day so I already did my elastic band exercises and will later ride the old faithful exercise bike.
I rested my muscles all week-end so I am hoping the exercise today does not make me get sore all over again. I am following my doctors advice in allowing my body to rest some between exercise. I am now exercising every other day.

Hi Ileen,

I agree with you. I over the years have tried many products with little or no results. The CLA product seems different enough for me to give it a try. I do agree with you but; I am trying a container just to see.

Thank you

Jim

Hi Mary,

Once again we have lost all our group here. They must be out of town???

I started doing the exercise bike rather than the rower for the next several weeks. I love the exercise bike. I think the bike is good for you and great! that you rest. Best to you getting strong.

Chef, just doing my checking in with you today.
This is my rest day so I have not done any exercise but may get on my exercise bike some because my legs feel stiff on me today and that always helps limber them up some.
Doing ok with my diet to and losing some weight, not much but its some and every pound lost is a good thing..

I do not understand why people come and go so much with us here, but I am sure they have their own reasons. Just miss everyone thats all.

Have a good day.

Hi Mary,

Good you have a rest day. The bike is good for you. Some studies said it was good for knees and so on.

I am losing weight because I have been all along but it is harder now that I am close to goal. I think you are near goal also? I have posted in the Maintain Lane early so I can get support from maintainers. Perhaps you might want to post there also. There is a Friday weigh-in post and you can start a help thread if you want. I am keeping this thread open becuse of you...

I like that we keep having new friends come and go. Perhaps they get what they need and move on. Perhaps some are deep sea fisherman or spotsman off to distant ports. But, whatever the reason as long as you or others are here to discuss Fat Burning and Strength Building I will keep it going.

I am at the end of Stength Building and I am losing weight. I will now begin the Fat Burning part for the next 12 weeks or so...

Cheers,

Jim

I always ride my old faithful exercise bike, been with that for many years especially after my back surgeries left my legs like thay are. It helps keeps them from stiffening up on me.

I know poeple will come and go they always do. I will invite more of my friends here. There are not to many of them thgat are into the exercise thing like you and I are.
But will ask them anyway.

My hubby and I went out right before dark yesterday and rode our real bicycles for about thirty minutes. That was fun. My legs got tired so I had to come home but I enjoyed it anyway. I use to love to ride my bike like that and would ride it for hours around the neighborhood. Maybe some day I can do that again.

I am not to far from my goal weight, and still working forward to get there and I know I will one day. I still have 50 pounds to lose but my doctor tells me I do not need to lose but 30 more. Maybe I have my goal to low for me but I wanted to be the weight I was when I got married thats all. I was so big when I first began on low carb, should have never let myself get like that and don't know why I did.

Take care and will check back in tomorrow.

Hi Mary,

What a nice post.

I use to bike when I was young. I now bike often it sounds like you could work up to a longer ride with hubby. Sounds Great!

We are both near goal so we can make it I know. I invited a member from the Maintain Lane to join in. I hope she does. She sounded so motivated.

I think you hit the nail on the head with your comment that some aren't as motivated and then feel like they can't come back. I personally feel that it is good they are here. Even if a person just puts on workout gear then walks around eating chocolate that is better than not doing anything. So I say they should not drop out just take a break like RC. He is still in there but has to wait for life to slow down so he can once again commit.

Have fun with bike and bands...!!!

Cheers

Jim

It is basically that you do your strength training with as much weight as you can do for 12 weeks then you really lighten up the weights and do 5 sets of twenty for each exercise.

Example: I do chest pull downs at about 200 lbs. I do set of 12 each. During fat burn I do 5 sets of 20 each with only 50 lbs.

This does change things up and I do lose weight.

Thanks

Hi Jim,

I am new here but I have been reading through this thread some (it's long) and perhaps you touched on this already but what is the reason why you reduce your weight to burn fat? I've been reading posts on another body building forum and I can't recall any one of them recommending to reduce weight to burn fat. Can you explain why this is effective from a physiological standpoint if you can? I'm very interested.

On a side note, I've been low carbing it for a week and 3 days, less than 100 grams per day but I am also working out like a beast; cardio at least 5x per week and weight training 3x per week. I'm down from 128.6 to 125 and it is all fat, not muscle. And I was advised to increase my weight and reduce my reps to burn the fat which is what I did. From what I understand about muscle is that you either use it or lose it. I would be afraid that I would lose my strenght if I reduced my weight.

I look forward to hearing from you soon! Thanks!

Allno, welcome aboard....
Its nice having new ones here to join us.

Today was my rest day with my exercise so I went out shopping instead of just sitting home all day. I always have to be doing something in spite of my bad knees hurting. I don't let them slow me up too much.
I think walking today in the stores was good for my legs, been trying to walk more anyway so I can get out side and walk my neighborhood again like the old times.
But the bike rides the other day was fun to, love them, and having my hubby along to made it even more fun.
I am slowly getting my strength back in the old legs. One day I hope they will feel like new....
