Wow! about the pain? I would check that out next time with the Dr. You may want to call and just ask. No cost for that I would think and may help. Good to ease up when you feel pain like that. I got some low back pain from rowing a lot this weekend but that was expected and not to bad. Bad weather in FL so sorry ![]() Best wishes getting back to the pool Jim |

Hi Gracie, You sound so active with garden and pool access. You are lucky the pool is a lot of work mostly fun although to keep running. In upstate NY the season is short but I love the pool. I have discussed gardening with Jess and I know she is fond of this activity. It is great exercise and I am happy to hear about any and all gardening for fun food etc. I will be doing study in S/B soon. I had been waiting for Ileen to comment she did know about S/B. I am also sure if Brian sees this he will give us a treat with an outstanding comment on the subject. Nice to have such great company here!!!! ![]() Jim

Yes, it was a good weekend! Weather was fantasic here in upstate NY. I didn't get outside to do any yardwork yet but I will soon. I stepped up my exercises I am now doing 60 min rowing sessions. I am fortunate that I have many hours to devote to exercise on Sat and Sun. I am watching diet alot. I am trying to balance enough to build muscle and also lose weight. I am doing good but it is like walking a tightrope. ![]() Nice group here now! Our combined efforts will go a long way to our successes collectively and individually.Cheers, Jim Last edited by Chef; 03-16-2009 at 11:59 AM.. |

Just dropping by for a quick 'hi' to all of you.
My daughter & sil are here for the week, so won't promise too many posts, but I tell ya, I'm making room for my workouts. I can't remember the last time I actually enjoyed going to the gym. I had started to feel the pressure of....'oh, I must get it done'...... Now, I so look forward to being at the gym, because when I walk (or hobble) out of there, I know I've had a good workout, and done within 20 minutes was hard to believe at first, but I can assure you that I am getting a quality workout. A side benefit of all of this new routine is that I'm doing more cardio on alternate days, and actually enjoying it. I'm feeling so much stronger! My daughter hadn't seen me for awhile, and said Mom, something is happening with your body. It just looks different. I don't get on the scale, and don't intend to....don't rely on that at all. My clothes are fitting differently, and that's my barometer. But I feel what's most important is that I've found something I actually enjoy and can stay with for the long haul, and I'm very grateful for that.

No, the pool is not much work if it is kept clean year round . Now once you ever allow it to get dirty now thats another story. Our pool stays sparkly clean all the time.
I did call my doctor and he told me to rest my back and take my pain medication and if it was still bothering me next Monday or got any worse to see him. It is already feeling better with the rest. I had some bad herniated disc and had to have several surgeries a few years back and i know i still have more bad disc and thats what I worry about hurting. I went through a rough time then with them.

Nice job keeping the pool clean. I agree if you keep it clean all the time it is easy; but if you don't it is hard to get back to good. I am happy that you feel better after rest. I hope all goes well so you can have a great summer. Keep up the outstanding efforts.Jim |

Great progress! I am very excited for your success. Good for you to establish an A.M. routine. The routine can and will vary but the activity should remain the same. That will go a long way to success and your ability to say I am a long hauler with the exercise program routine. ![]() Just having some fun with the long hauler phrase that Sazzie coined in this thread. My weight is just coming off slow. Wish I could speed it up some but doubt I can until I can get more active with my swimming.
My arthritis keeps me from going and doing what I once did so I stay home alot now. So I have to make myself get up and move and not sit all day reading or watching Tv. I cannot even clean house like I once did either and have help with that now. If it was not for my riding my exercise bike and swimming I would probably not get any exercise at all. But I will never let that happen, as long as my pool is there you can believe I will be in it swimming and exercising some. got this thing about water, must have been a fish in a past life or something... But I am exercising some as much as I can, will not let this old arthritis get me down if I can help it. Thank you all for being here for me to, I love taking with you and helping me out here. |

![]() I am trying to get back up to par with my exercising. My doctor said I could take my davocet up to three times a day but still I am leery of that because I do not want to get addicted them, he said if it kept the pain down so I could move more that they would not hurt me or would I get addicted to them so I am going to try it for awhile to see. I just hurt so much with this arthritis and I want so much to ease it so I can go and do what I want. My knees are feeling better since the three injections I had in them, but my hips sure hurt alot now. I just think before my knees were hurting so bad that I never paid much attention to my hips hurting to. I am getting ready to go back to rehab with this so hopely it will ease up more. They are going to try some new electrial type theraphy. I guess it would be a TENS machine thing. But anyway I will be going there just as soon as my doctor sets it up for me and will keep you up on how I am doing. Hope all me talking about my pain doesn't bother you all, if so I will stop mentioning it. Hope you all are doing well with your diets and strength training. It looks like you are. See ya all later, |

I think everybody is getting busy with nice weather comming. I know I have alot going on so at times I may be offline for days. But, I will be here to help when I can. Best of luck with all. Jim |

All is going well here with each making progress at a great level. We have had great posts from Brian and Ileen that helped me prefect the Fat Burning/ Strength Training program. I am getting my usual results that are good but not great even with a outragous amount of exercise and a good diet. A member at my club that was a cert. fitness person said he couldn't find any wholes in what I was doing. So its just one day at a time. I do have a goal for July I hope to make it. Nice to hear from you. Please stop in anytime. Join in if you can. Jim Last edited by Chef; 03-25-2009 at 11:13 AM.. |

Hey RC! KUTGW! Excellent expression thanks.... I also put together a full body workout for my weekend days where I am working out for several hours. It is a great idea and works for shorter workouts as well. I had read in mens health some years ago about a one day a week workout that does the whole body and your muscles rebuild all week long. It is along the lines of time away from the gym.??? Just keeping things going is good for you and your family for the future of good health. KUTGW ![]() Jim |

I am hanging in there and doing what I can with my exercise.
I have already gotton in the pool and have begun my water aerobics already. Will do them for a while and then get to my swimming again. I have to make sure my legs are stronger so they will not cramp up while I am swimming. But one day I know I will be in shape enough to do those walks I want, right now they are short ones but hope one day soon I can walk around the block and maybe even do some power walking to. But like I said I am not about to allow this bad arthritis get me down. Its hard at times not to just give in to it but I find the strength somehow to keep pushing forward with it in spite of the pain. I am ok . |

Hi Ileen, Great question for me (Jim) I want the Great results like I had when I was 350 lbs. I could step on the scale each week and see progress. I would walk around and my pants would be loose and I would have dropped another size. Now and since 280. I have had to fight to lose each 10 lbs. I guess I am wanting to get to goal right away. I do have muscle and I have great form. My body is hard allover except the belly area and a little elsewhere. I know I will lose the weight and get to goal but I clasify my results as good because they are slower than I want that is why I say good not great. I am happy to not have to many stretch marks. I tell myself that is because I am losing slowly. I do use a cocoa butter stretch cream I think it helps too. Once again thank you for your great posts and help to us all. Jim |

Yes Ileen, my doctor has me on Mobic right now but I have taken every arthritis medication they have ever made over the last ten years and nothing really helps much.
I seen a new exercise on TV and it was using the elastic bands. I was wondering if any of you use them. I thought I may try one sometimes. They were doing all sorts of different exercises with them for different parts of the body. It looked like it would be low impact for my arthritis and should not harm me any in doingthem. I plan to look on the internet to see if I can find it. |

Good Morning Everyone,
Just a quick hello. I have been pretty consistant in my workouts. My main focus is body composition. I am not as advanced as you guys, I am just getting myself used to the major exercises again, Bench, lat pull downs, squats, military press, Curls. I hope everyone has a great weekend! |

![]() Rich, I am not advanced either like some of you here. I did go to the sports store and got my new elastic latex bands and I used them this morning for the firt times. I got some illustrations to on how to use it for the back, hips, legs and shoulder and arms so they are the ones I will be doing for awhile. Its more of a low inpack exercise until I can build myself up more. They are fun to use to. So hopely I can get these hips and legs stronger soon because I really do want to get more waking in. Right now I can only walk slow and not far at all. I have a neighbor who walks her dog every afternoon before dark and she walks for blocks and has been wanting me to walk with her but I just cannot right now but sure wish I could. Thats what I am working up to get to one day. One day i will get there. |

That me Rich, going slow and easy. But one day I will get there.
In fact I have been feeling some better today with my low back but I have been wearing that big old back brace all week to and it does help. I was getting to where I was hunching over because my low back would not strighten up but with the brace on I can walk stright. I think that there is making it feel better. But Rich I am hanging in there and one day finish this race to good health. |

Hi Mary, You have reminded me of where I got started. My wife saw the 6 week body make over on TV and we got it. That was three years ago. My wife lost what she needed in the 6 weeks. I was on about a year before I joined The Wellness Center in town. I learned about my IRS and got on a LGI diet at that time. The trainer said I didn't need the elastic bands that came with the 6 week body makeover course. That is when I offically joined a club and started using real weights. I did use the elastic bands for a year and they did tone me real nice. Just use them Mary I'm sure they are good to use. I hope Ileen or Brian will give you a take on the elastic bands. They may say just get some two lb hand weights and use your body weight to develop muscle. No matter what anybody says you are doing great! ![]() Enjoy summer! I have been working on the same thing. Similar I want less fat more muscle. I added a apple to my preworkout snack. I have that at 3:30p.m. then I am at the club at 5:30. I am using a few more calories to help build the body composition. I had to because I had stalled even with less food and more exercise. I will let you know soon. Sounds like you have a great program going with strength training. How many are you doing. I don't think of myself as advanced. I think Brian and Ileen are advanced. Either way we are all on the same team. ![]() Jim |
