Great I was thinking of portion control. But I tend to have too much. I am going to limit portion and variety. Second, I will eat before going anywhere and carry a snack. I hope you don't mind I asked a pen pal to join us. She is a FL person and is motivated. Jim |

Chef, found ya.. Its at 80 deg. here today where I live. Nice and sunny to. We were having alot of rain but thats all cleared out now.
I have been practing portion control for a long time Chef. It has helped me so much to learn not to over eat. Once I went to a dietician before I went on low carb and she told me how to practice portion control and what a portion size looks like but you can get it on the internet and find a chart on it to. Even if I do want something sweet every now and then, I have learned to just take a taste and not eat a whole slice of pie or cake. It takes some training to do but you will learn to do it. I hope I am not bargeing in on the two of you here, Chef invited me to join you. Now if you want to keep it to men only I will understand. Yes I am very serious about losing the rest of my weight. I am having some health problems with my knees and the weight loss I know will help them alot. I have lost most of it already, a 100 lbs. but still have 50 or so more I need to lose. So my goal is to have it all gone by the end of 2009. I know I can do it to because this is not just eating low carb for a short time for me, its a lifetime committment to my way of eating now. I began low carb way back in Nov. 2000 and lost most the weight the first year but a illness with our son in 2002 and his death really sent me into a deep depression and set back, but the last year I am doing better with it all and getting my life back on track. Even though I did not gain to much weight back at that time I knew I had to get my life back together and lose the rest of this weight and thats what I am doing now. My doctor told me the weight I carried most my life has taken a toll on my knees and that I may need knee replacement sometimes in the future and I am not looking forward to that at all. I have not been swimming much lately because the water in the pool has been to cool for me to get in, I tested it this morning and it was 79 deg. in it, I like it at least 85 deg. But I have been riding my exercise bike most every day and doing walking when my knees are not hurting so bad. Thanks for the invite here Chef. Hello KC.....

RC said OK already and for that matter more is better in supports groups. Our focus Mary, is the 12 week program that is a two part so it is 24 weeks. The first part is until Feb. 2009 then we go to May 2009. This is a special motivational program and we are having fun. If we think of May then your goal of 2009 is only another 24 week program after that and that is exciting for us all. I will look like Charles Atlas by then and RC Oh! not KC and the sunshine band will look like he use to in his lifting days I just know it. So welcome and lets have fun. You can do the 12 week program or just hang out with us we really like having you here. Jim

I would love to do the 12 week program with you all. What do we need to do? I will start keeping a record of my weight loss again. I did it once, made a chart and it helped me alot so I could see what I doing.
KC I know I will love it here with you all. If you all are aiming to look like Charles Atlas then I will be aiming to look like a skinny hollywood star, ha ha....... But first I need to get rid of some of this loose saggy skin on my stomach and waist area. Are you all bothered with this problem? http:// ![]() MERRY CHRISTMAS |

Hi RC,
I wanted to tell you of my daily habit. I love coffee I have Fat Free 1/2 and 1/2 I put a tsp. of COCOA the bakers kind and a couple of shakes of cinnamon. If you check the food label you will see fiber-protein-sodium-sugar. I think this is like a low calorie Instant Breakfast. I don't recommend skipping meals as a matter of fact I do recommend 6 meals a day; But, if you want to lose weight before the holiday you may want to consider: EXTREEM MEASURES FOR EXTREEM SITUATIONS...... Do what feel right and is the best for you and your body..... I am having the coffee with cocoa and cinnamon and FF half and half for lunch right now. COCOA- is a dark chocolate that is good for removal of free radicals in the body. Heart health and had magnizium for blood pressure. Cinnamon- for blood sugar balance How is all going with strength building? I am enjoying fat burning alot. My club snap fitness in Gansevoort, NY has just aquired a Expresso Fitness Bike. It is interactive with a screen. It is so much fun you ride a bike in many different situations. You streer with handles at your side. You shift gears with buttons on the handles. I rode fast for 30 min. passing many other riders. I felt like Lance Armstrong. I think you can google the Expresso Fitness Bike and see it. I felt lucky I hope it passes to you as well. Jim ![]() |

Great! for you making plans to do a wonderful thing for you. You just passed the biggest part of the journey The Start. I want to address your question of saggy skin. Then we can speak about the 12 week program. I first joined a wellness center in Saratoga when I was real big (fat) Oh Well I saw some members there who had lost weight alot of weight. Skin was hanging under arms with big time stretch marks. I had tremendous muscle content so my weight was also a muscle thing; But I knew that even with muscle I could have saggy skin so I:1. Made a vow not to lose to fast ( as if I was going to lose that much anyway) but I did. 2. I googled all I could about saggy stretch mark skin. I found it depends on age etc. example a woman has a baby the skin is stretched for 9 months or so. I was big my whole life. So it will take time to return to all good. 3. I started using over the counter stretch cream (I think it works) I use palmers with a coconut smell I rub it on my belly ect. every day. I bought some Avon Stretch Cream it is a new product that costs about $25.00 a tube. I think it was very powerful. If $ is not a big problem with you I would contact a Avon Representative in your area. 4. Speak to your Doctor about the saggy skin. You may find the answer there. Best of luck with that it will take time or plastic surgery (SORRY) Let now go to a happy place that is our new 12 week program. The next time you are down you can think of how exciting and motivating this is. THE PROGRAM FOR OUR FRIEND MARY: 1. You must decide to do Strength Building or Fat Burning. I would sugggest you start with Strength Building because muscle burns more calories than fat because fat is an inactive thing and mucle is active even when we are at rest. 2. So lets think of strength building: Do your exercises with weight say you use a 3-5 lb dumbell and some other weights. Do as much weight as you can for at least one set of 10-12 reps. 3. So lets think of fat burning: Do the same as above only with alot less weight and do more reps. Example: Above you did 3-5 lbs. dumbell so do it with a 1 lb dumbell. and do 5 sets of 10-12 reps. Mary, this is only an example to get you thinking of what you want to do for the next 12 weeks. Perhaps you go to a gym and workout all the time so you do weights as heavy as you can for a few reps. Or lighten it up alot and do many reps. I am just trying to get you to wrap your head around how the program works so you can get up and running. 4. Now decide Strength Building or fat burning and begin today. write it down if you want or just keep it in your mind. It is up to you you have 100% control. 5. SO you do weights light or heavy depending on your program. Now let talk of the Cardio: A. Lets go with one the bike you could do bike eliptical and treadmill B. So I do bike at level 10 when I am doing fat burning I am at level 25 when I am doing strength building. So you go lighter and faster to burn fat. Then you go harder and slower to build muscle. SO you are spending 12 weeks burning the fat then you are building muscle 12 weeks. It just works So lets recap. Mary, start with strength building to get the muscle up and the body working well. Then lighten it up and lean it out. I hope you find the thought of this as motivating as I do. I think RC is well motivated as well. ![]() Cheers, Jim ![]() Last edited by Chef; 12-18-2008 at 10:55 AM.. |

![]() Chef, Thats what i really need is to get my leg muscles strengthened and also arms and shoulders to. I have some hand weights and I used them for awhile but my shoulders go so sore i could barely move them so I stopped them. WAS THAT A MISTAKE? or should I have just keep it up? I have my spare bedroom set up for my work out center and my office to. I would love to buy a treadmill and have been looking for one are garage sales but so far no luck, just don't have alot of money to buy a new one. Do I need to do strength building everyday or what? I miss swimming in our pool but the water in it is just to cool for me right now. I have been thinking about joining the gym and maybe getting a trainer to help me out some with the strength building until I can get stronger with it. The gym I want to join also has a nice in-door heated pool to for exercising and swimming. I want to try the cocoa coffee, sounds great. Thanks for your help, I promise I will follow it and keep you up on how I am doing. Last edited by Pcola Girl; 12-18-2008 at 11:42 AM.. |

Hi guys,
I hit the gym last night for cardio. Chef, you are right. I need to up my days in the gym. My weight has stalled. I am about the same for the past week or so but my waist is shrinking. Seriously, On one of my belts I am down to the last hole. It's gonna feel great to through it out. Good luck with the holiday parties. I went to my work party. I ate lowcarb before I went. I had a club soday and nibbled on cheese. To me this is a huge success. Talk to you soon. oh, I probably won't be in the gym until monday. We are getting snow all weekend. Yes chef I will be shoveling great cardio. Also, last snowfall, I pulled my daughter around the yard on a sled. Also great cardio.

I like to do the Jumpin Jim in the a.m. You could just tap your foot and rotate your hip when you shave. That is not like exercising because you will be doing it in concert with your regular routine. No stress- no pressure. At home and in the car: I am a very relaxed guy even though I am Italian and Irish thats because I was raised by a German. SO that means that I have to make a concerted effort to move or I am a statue. So I tap my foot. Keep my hands up on the steering wheel when driving. I build in a little something into everything I do. To the point that I hold my stomach in if I wake up in the middle of the night. So there is alot you can do to compensate for not enough Gym time. At work in the office: Stand alot get up out of your chair all day long. Stand when the phone rings then sit back down then stand up when you hang up. Up and down 150 times a day is great for those legs. Don't forget to keep tapping your feet. I keep a ball and anytime I can I squeeze it tossing between hands. If you have a boss over you all day play it cool but keep it moving. Let try this for 24 weeks and then we can laugh at ourslves and toast to the New Year and our New Lives of health and strength. Atlas and Hercules are in training here. Jim |

![]() Chef, I was doing the water exercises until the water in our pool got to cool for me to get in it. I still ride my exercise bike and I also do some chair exercises for my legs. After I had my back surgeries and was in rehab for awhile they showed me all sorts of exercises to do to strengthen my legs and low back so I still practice those even though I am not in rehab for them anymore. But I do what exercises I can, I do not sit around and get lazy all day, I move most all day long in some way. Right now I just want to get my legs, knees and low back stronger so walking will not be so hard on me like it is now. Chef and Rich, do you all watch your calories to? My doctor wants me to keep mine at 1200 a day plus watch the carbs so thats what I have been doing. |

Just wanted to say that I have a doctors appointment on Tuesday morning with my knees. Hope he will give me some more of those injections he gave me last time, because they did help alot and I have so much planned for Christmas and New Years and I want to be able to enjoy myself and not have my knees hurting so bad.
Otherwise my eating is going well and everything else is great is me. Am joining the gym in January so I can use their indoor pool so I can keep up with my water exercises. Our pool water is still to cool to get into and probably won't warm up enough unitl about April or May when the temp get back into the 90's. Have a MERRY CHRISTMAS. |

Thank you for the nice Merry Christmas and the same to you and yours. It sounds like you have all things working well: The pool THe Doctor The exercises you learned at rehab The calorie watch Great do all that and you will win! The prize is good health for you a wonderful gift for the holiday. I'm not sure about RC I hope he will let you know what he does about counting calories. Here is what I do I only eat what is good egg whites-chicken-lean beef-whole wheat pasta and breads-vegetables and no carrots or corn. I go easy on condiments. I eat 6 meals not to big. Once in a while I count and I get 1500 a day that is where I stay. In other words I count by diet (daily eating) not by mathamatics. If I eat out I don't count but I use good sense. I usually take 1/2 of my meal home. So you can live and never count again if you do this. I'm sure your Doctor would love this plan. Watch the salt... Jim |

I have been lately because I have been curious as to what I am consuming. The problem is that I don't really know what I should consume compared to what I am burning. I have done calculations on the internet, but how can a computer program know my metabolism? Fit day tells me I burn 2700 calories a day. I find that hard to believe. If you trust your doctor, I would follow his advice. I have been eating around 1700 a day and not losing. I did much better when I paid no attention to calories and went by my hunger. |

Merry Christmas to you Chef and Mary or I should say happy holidays also.
One exciting development for me has been my HDL level. Since I have started this exercise program my HDL went form 37 to 48. For me this is huge. I may only hit the gym one more time this week. I will be visiting relatives etc. Hope you guys have a great holiday. |

![]() MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR. I saw my doctor this morning and got some injections in my knees so I am resting them right now some. They are sore from the injections site but ok. I have to go back after the New Year and talk to him about having some surgery on my right one.. My right knee is really bad and worn out. I damaged that knee when I was 15 yrs. old at a skating rink and it has always given me trouble since. The left knee is not as bad so I do not think surgery will be necessary on that one. But I will keep you all up on everything with it. See you again after Christmas. Watch out for all that food that will be around you during this time. I know I will have to and keep my will power strong. |

I don't know your situation, and you have to decide what is right, but always understand a doctor will sometimes have a skewed view of the world. Great to hear from you before New Year! I went to Vt. to the parents over the weekend. I did the jumpin jim and I created Chefin it up now I have two workout routines when I can't get to the Club. I can relate to missing time to workout. I am at the age where it is only me to worry about. With a young family time is more compressed. I often talk to my wife Nancy about "How did we ever find time to do it all". Well anyway great to hear from you. I am a little concerned about Mary I hope she posts soon about her Knees. My holidays are going great. I am thinking about what I will eat before I eat it. My wife made homemade cookies and she brought home 6 boxes of girlscout cookies her sister gave her when she was there in Pa. As you can see we were traveling the weather was real good warm and raining but no snow/ice we were lucky with that. Hey RC I think the best thing to do is get a 10-20 min. workout going each day in the a.m. and if you don't get to the gym don't worry. I would rather have you do a short workout and be stress free then do a big workout when you can and have added stress in your life.![]() Best of a New Year to you and yours. Cheers Jim |

Our Christmas and New Year was also great Chef. We had company most the time and they just left yesterday so we stayed busy. We did not do much cooking, mostly bought from the deli and ate out. So I probably messed up my eating some but hopely it did not cause me to gain any weight back.
I did my exercise today on my exercise bike and did my chair exercises to. Also do my arm weights to. Thinking about cutting my carbs back more because I have not been losing like I once was. I know I am not as active as I once was. I am really trying to reach my goal weight by the end of this year. I know I can do it to. Its just that this last year has been bad on me because of my knee and pain I am in all the time with it and my legs to. Bt I vow to make this new year different. My doctor wants to do some knee surgery on my right knee but am not sure when, maybe around end of Feb. He wants to go in and if It need be, do a entire knee replacemewnt. If it does not need a knee replacement then he will do just what he has to to fix it. I hate to go through that but it may be my only option because its really bad and he has done all he can for it. I have know for a long time that I may have to have this done. But I will be ok, setbacks never stopped me much....... How do you like my new avatar? Its our pool in our back yard. I love swimming in it to, but right now the water in it is to cool for me. Plan to go up to the gym near the house here and see waht it cost to join so I can use their in-door pool and also get involved in some of their water exercise programs they have. |

The pool looks awesome. My wife is going through a lot of knee issues. she has a tear in her minisucus. I don't know if I spelled that correctly. I wish you luck with that. It must be frustrating to have the will to exercise but have an issue with a knee holding you back to an extent. Again, Happy New Year. You too Chef. |

Hope your wife's knee gets to feeling better. The injections I had in mine a week ago helped some but I know that is not pernament. Still looking at surgery on my right one.
I love our pool to and I love to exercise in it. I have been swimming all my life, my husband says i must be part fish to love the water like I do. I grew up on the Gulf of Mexico and love the water and beaches. Think I have been swimming since the day I was born.... In spite of my knee pain I till get in my exercise. Sometimes it hurts bad but I know I need to keep it up or it will stiffen so I cannot hardly even strighten it out. My eating is going well, keeping the carbs lower than I was so hopley I will lose my weight better now. http:// ![]() Last edited by Pcola Girl; 01-05-2009 at 11:31 AM.. |

I hope you see this. Mary and RC I have posted to BC to thank him for his comments about the "Knee" situation. I thought he might like to join us here on our program. RC I didn't think you would mind.???? ![]() I have been looking into Hard fat vs. Soft fat. I have both and always wondered why???? So hard fat has less ciculation and is different and worse than soft fat. I always thought the Hard fat was better fat if there ever was such a thing. ![]() So with my IRS my body uses the hard fat to shield the insulin. THus saying I don't need insulin to burn fat because it is not there because in reality the hard fat is dead without blood so the body doesn't see it and the Stomach that has become an organ due to IRS stores and has hidden from the body the soft fat and the body does not see the hard fat so when insulin is produces the stomach can say I don't need it and I piss it out. So this is a bold observation but I have been giving the hard fat area a pink belly to get the blood flowing and activate the Hard Fat. so the body can burn it. Thus the reason I don't burn fat with IRS. Just to update you on the progress I am making. It was very exciting to feel hunger pains in the hard fat area because that meant I was burning fat. I might be able to drop some pounds now and that would be great. RC I am getting excited to start the Strength Building 12 week program for the end of Feb first week of March. Do you think about the fat burning part for the 12 week change up. If you make it here Brian then Welcome. How are you doing Mary? Cheers, Jim ![]() |
