My callanetics DVD's arrived

Hey everyone....I am so excited because my two callanetics DVD's arrived last night and I am going to start them this weekend but I have a few questions before I start.

I bought the 10 years younger one and the callanetics for abs one. I weight train, and do cardio 4-6 days a week and just started pilates last week. How many days a week should I start with? 1, 2, 3?

Should I start with the 10 years younger one first then move to the abs one or cycle them both?

Any help, suggestions would be greatly appreciated....as I am totally new to this.

Thanks so much!

I would go for 3 times a week with 10 Years Younger. Then if you want a bit more ab work do that on another day. You will probably find that Callanetics is more effective than Pilates so you may end up leaving your Pilates class. If you are doing Cardio, Callanetics and a bit of weight work then you will see AMAZING results! Let us know how you get on in the Callanetics Challenge thread.

I have a similar question. I ordered 10/10 and Evolution. I do Couch to 5K 3 days a week, and I was looking for some resistance training to supplement, because I think I was just doing too much cardio (3 runs, 2-3 ellipticals per week, with just some pushups/planks for resistance).

So, I was thinking of rotating the 2 Callanetics DVDs and doing them 3 times a week, on the days between my runs. Does this sound like a good plan?

Thanks for the info. I only started the pilates class to help me tone up and increase my flexibility. I didn't know about callanetics til I read about it about on this board. If this is more effective then I'm in!

Thanks. I don't want to be a slave to working out. An hour a day, six days a week, should be plenty. And I really don't want to waste time on more cardio than I need. I love to run, and I'm willing to do the elliptical on cardio days when the weather is nasty. But 3 cardio days and 3 Callanetics days sounds like a balanced plan.

Oh, yeah, and plenty of protein and fat.

I am a Pilates teacher and I do have to say that Callanetics will do more for you in a shorter period of time. Also it is a lot easier than Pilates re breathing.

Good advice.

Callanetics provides all the toning, strengthening and flexibility in one fantastic, challenging workout.

Best of luck to you!

Just a warning to all of you. I had planned to do Callanetics every third day, with lifting and walking on the other two days. I just can't. I love Callanetics so much, I want to do it six days a week! I decided today to drop the walking and just to do the weights on my arms 3 days a week.

I'm still not perfect at it all, but each day that I do it, I can do more, and my form is better. It's strangely addictive.

Chantyl, you made me laugh - but so true, pelvic rot is a killer

Keep it up, you will love the results.

All the best for you,

I came down with a cold, so outdoor cardio is OUT. At least I can watch the videos to get a sense of the exercises, until I feel somewhat better.

I have a KILLER WORKOUT for you if you are up to it! Do your cardio say 20 - 30 mins THEN do 10/10. You will feel like But you are sooo much energy, feel much, much more flexabile.
Do it 3x a week if you are up to it.

Not the cardio on alternating days?

Noreen, it's actually better to do cardio FOLLOWING a "strength training" workout (which Callanetics is, in that it is building muscle) rather than the reverse. Doing cardio before will compromise form since it will be robbing one's body of the energy needed to maximize performance while building muscle.

You can do cardio on whatever days works best for your personal schedule.

It can be on Callan days, or on off days -- regardless, just make time for cardio.

Wow! looks like we are all jumping into this together, I was going to start this morning but they shut the electricity down from around 9:30pm last night to later this morning for a new pole or something. It would have been nice to know since they cut if off right in the middle of Hell's Kitchen...Im going to do it tonight for sure.

Twyla,
What i meant was by cardio is doing interval aerobics, that getting the muscles warmed up and limber.
Doing 20 mins of interval aerobics does not compromise Callanetics workout. I prefer to do interval aerobics before Callanetics.

Also what do you think about CardioCallanetics? That is a cardio workout done before Callanetics?

SIAMESGIRL,

Of course your a instructor for Callanetics and since you have probably seen many changes in peoples bodies, would you say it flattens your butt or makes more like a bubble or round butt..lol, I really dont want to get a flat flat butt I want more of a lift and toned butt. Also does is reduce the breast or lifts them? I heard it helps lift them. I know these are silly questions but im serious, I want a girly figure not really square or flat.

Thanks

Callanetics will lift your butt up making it Shapely, round and high. With the breast i can tell you it lifts the girls UP! It won't make them smaller tho.

And, you know, that's only area that didn't shrink by a little after my first week. Now, this is a workout I can dig!
