Fit & Sexy DVD/Video Challenge October 2008

This challenge is for anyone that works out with dvds/videos! Let's meet here daily to hold each other accountable for working out! It will also be a great place to meet and chat about the workout dvds/videos we do and become more informed as to what may or may not work for us. We can even review them here so others will know if that video may be one they may or may not want to purchase. I look forward to working out with you all, giving and receiving encouragement from you and just having fun getting fit (because we are already sexy!)

Good morning everyone!

Trace ~ I think that is what it was called and I was doing it because it seemed it would help widdle away the stomach area......man the mess it made of my back....Oh well we exercise and learn because I liked the workout. Next time will just eliminate them or do them slower?

I look to start back tonight with some weight lifting ~ Jari Love.

Hope all is well with everyone

Hi everybody,

Thanks for starting the new thread Marcia. How did the workout go yesterday? I'm hanging on by a thread with the P90 Masters rotation. I haven't done it at all this week. I am trying to talk myself into Sculpt 5/6 tomorrow. We'll see.

Wednesday~ big muscle circuit from Abs Diet 2
today~ cardio interval segment from Train For Your Body Type.

I actually don't know. I think it's after I bought a new pair of shoes. I bought some Danskos (can't return them now) and if I think back I think my ankle fell to the side at one time while at work, so I think that's when it happened.

Last week,
M-Th - 30 minute treadmill run
F & S -rest day!

So far, nothing this week. My knee / foot was bothering me so I've been off of it with some Aleve. Just when I was doing really good with running. Darn it!!

Keep up the good work, everyone.

Update ~ Hello all! I'm happy to see you all are still trudging along.

Well I have been in pain and popping advil liquid gels like it's candy. Finally went to my doctor and she's pretty sure after all the squats, lunges, woodchops, etc. that I have reinjured and old injury that was never really taken care of.

I fell and bruised my tailbone back in 2001 and literally for 2 years could not walk for long distances. I was in every therapy you can imagine i.e., regular therapy, sports medicine, acupuncture etc. Well, it's always underlying pain there. The finally found out I have a tilted sacrailiac so when I stand i actually am slanted to one side about 3/4 of an inch. Found out I have been for all those years in between trying to compensate for the side that is most painful. Now both sides are injured because of the overcompensation.

I have to go get xrays done again and have an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon on October 15th for evaluation.

When I was going through a few years ago, I was told I am not allowed to do any weight bearing exercises (no walking running, jumping, etc.) So now she says if I want to exercise I need to look into yoga, pilates, etc....Maybe that's why I loved the feeling callanetics gave my body (even though it gave me a spare tire that I still have not gotten rid of) LOL

Have any of you done pilates or yoga? Does that help you tone or what?

Oh well.....I'm going to listen to her this time because now I can't even stand at work for long periods of time or even walk long distances before I'm in so much pain I have to pop advil.

she gave me 2 medications....one is a anti-inflammatory and the other is a narcotic for pain ~ sigh.......

You all keep on keepin on and I'll keep you updated.....any advice on yoga or pilates would be appreciated!

Marcia~ I'm sorry to hear that your injury is worse than we thought. What are you going to do for cardio? I assume walking's out too, right? You can certainly tone up with yoga and Pilates. I only have a few of those types of workouts but my favorite Pilates workout is The Method Precision Toning and Sculpting. It's two workouts on 1 DVD. It's a bit slow and dry a la callanethics but very effective. When I want light yoga I usually reach for Yoga Zone's beginner workouts. When I want to be challenged a little I either do Yoga Zone's Power Yoga for Strength and Endurance or one of the workouts from Shiva Rea's Yoga Shakti. I hope everything goes well with your follow-up visits. Keep us posted.

yesterday~ no workout....ran errands and got a pedicure after work instead.
today~ I'm about 80% sure that I'll do the big muscle circuit from Abs Diet 2

Hello everyone! Trace thank you for the love! I had x-rays done today and will be seeing the Orthopedic Surgeon on Wednesday. I'm thinking about restarting Callanetics tomorrow morning because my body did feel good when I did it. I also will be checking out Pulse Yoga this week from Netflix. After my appointment today I went to Ross and picked up Pefect in 10 Pilates, :08 Min Pilates, Stott Pilates Flat Abs, and Tamilee's Tight on Time 2 DVD series. I know I know....I need more DVDs like I need a hole in the head but like I said before.....it's a hobby!

Plus I wanted to check out what Pilates can do for me. I have a Pilates rebounder downstairs I bought 2 years ago and have never used. If it can help my pain....I may have to get into it!

Hello everyone! I went to the Orthopedist and he can't seem to tell me much He says he sees a definate change in my spine (slippage) and degenerative discs but not what may be causing this chronic pain. So he had me make an appointment for an MRI next week and I decided to take it upon myself to go see a chiropractor next week also.

I'm really believing I aggrevated my old injury and needed time to heal because this week the pain is back to a dull roar and not please someone hit me in the head with a bat to take the other pain away I did manage to get in one Callanetics workout just to see if that would help. Well it did.

I was advised to do only stretching type exercises so I guess I really am back to Callanetics and maybe pilates.

Getting older is "special" HAHAHAHAHAHAHA but at least nobody is talking surgery

Wow where is everyone? Well my doctor's office called today and said that my x-rays show arthritis in my back and hips So I am going to cancel the appointment I have with the chiropracter and I have another doctors appointment on Wednesday with the doctor that called today......I haven't been doing exercise and I am feeling much better. We'll see what the doctor says on Wednesday

I won't have to buy a hover-round after a while

Hi everyone,

Friday~ Crunch Super Slimdown
Monday~ no workout...I have just been really tired lately. I could not find the energy for a workout.
Tuesday~ Ended up doing Cathe's Total Body Sculpt because my VCR would not cooperate and let me do the workout I really wanted to do. One of my VCRs already died on me. It looks like my last one is about go kaput too.

Marcia~ Arthritis??!! You seem awful young to have arthritis. I know younger people get arthritis but I still associate it with older people. I've heard Tai Chi is good for arthritis though. Let us know how your appointment goes today.

Wednesday~ 3 miles from Leslie's Super Challenge
Today~ for some reason my DVDs won't play in my laptop today so since my husband isn't here to fix it, I ended up doing a total body workout and a Pilates abs workout on Exercise TV.

Ok, where is everyone? Chop Chop ladies!

I guess our little group is disbanding? I found out on Friday that I'm pregnant. I'm not surprised. That would explain the tiredness and general lack of energy. I still plan to work out for as long as I can. I didn't work out on Friday, Monday, or Tuesday. Friday because my laptop still wouldn't play my discs and I did not feel like scouring the internet for another workout to do. Mon./Tues., I just didn't have the energy. I did Fitprime Lean yesterday and plan to do Ultimate Fat Burn today.

I didn't know this thread was here! I workout daily with Denise Austin (I tape them off ESPN Classic Channel). They are much older, but I have been doing them for the past 5 weeks and this is the FIRST time that I have ever seen my abs flattening, waist getting smaller, and my thunder thighs getting toned and sleek!! And most of all...it's free!!

Tracey ~ Congratulations! Is this your first?

Mikko ~

Went back to my Dr. and she said from her end she can only help me "manage" the pain from the arthritis in my hips and back. Gave me two prescriptions and told me I could take Tylenol Arthritis daily if I needed more pain relief added to the prescriptions Needless to say, i have been taking both.

Today (Friday) I have a appointment with the chiropractor. Hopefully this will help relieve the other pains I have in my lower back and hips.

I have not been exercising at all because I'm not back to 100% and have pain daily. I have been collecting different pilates type exercises and watched the dvd from my pilates rebounder. I guess I should put that 300-400 dollar purchase to work and hope for the best.

I have never been to a chiropractor before but my coworkers have informed me I might be in pain the first week ~ oh joy
