Sara, I think you will find that the 3 min run is not as long as it seems. Pace yourself, stay loose. My trainer reminded me to roll my feet from my heels to all 5 toes. I never 'learned' proper running technique or form, so she is coaching me on that. I encourage you to try it! I'd love to hear how you guys find week 3. I did W3D2 today as tomorrow will be a day off from the gym, I may do 4 days of week 3 so I don't progress too fast and hurt myself! I am trying to vary my work out times/intensities to maximize on keeping my body 'unaware' of cycles. In the DVD, Wendy suggests shaking up exercise routines as well to prevent adaptation to workout routines. Today was a bit more of a push, but I did go for 3 miles, between the podcast and some of my own music, it really went by relatively quickly.

Anyhoo... I love the support here...keep up the great exercising ladies!!

Alissa, When you say 3 miles do you mean you are alternating between the running and walking or 3 miles running only?

knowing superwoman she probably means running. I did Callanetics last night and may have to do aerobics tonight because it is raining hard right now. I will give it until 5 and decide then!

I did the Podcast for week 3, which brought me to 24 laps (just short of 2 miles) and then I ran 4 laps/walked 4 laps etc to get my lap count to 36. I ran the podcast plus 2 solid miles the day before, so I was a little more tired on Tuesday, but still feeling good. I use a lap counter now as I kept forgetting what lap I was on!!

Smart Aleck! I still think your Callanetics is a heck of a workout. I can't wait to get my DVD!

Is it a small track. 4 laps is short of a mile on a regular track. If you did 24 laps that like 6 miles. You are superwoman.

Hey guys, no workout tonight. On my way to pick up my girls my mom called to tell me that my 18 month old had horrible hives all over her body. Ended up taking her to pediatrician because she had a fever too. She has some kind of virus that vary rarely causes hives. She will be fine with a little benadryl and some motrin.

By the time I got home it was 730 and I had to make dinner, finish up HW and get the kids to bed and now I'm exhausted. I have class tomorrow night until 830 so I won't get my run in until Friday.

Sara
Sara, this one is the indoor track at my gym, I can run and watch my son play basketball or volleyball in the gym area below! The outdoor track is 1/4 mile, yes, and I prefer the outdoor tracks, as I don't get so dizzy LOL BUT the indoor track is a very nice alternative here where it rains 10 months out of the year

No running today...but aerobics was fun. We did duo-step today, when you work with a partner. It gets my competitive spirit going It was fun! I should be able to get day 3 in tomorrow after quad step...we'll see how my legs feel.

Upper free weights and skipped the squats...mt legs were tired for some reason..lol...

How was week 3 for you lovely ladies???

See you soon!!

Good Morning Kelley!

I have a quick sec to post to you. Yes, Podrunner is different than the Ullrey one. Check it out, he sets the weeks to specific BPM...got me moving!! A nice switch-up, maybe you'll like it too! Especially moving into the next several weeks, each day is supposed to be different and Ullrey's cast is the same for each day I'll have to look into that further. No complaints, I like the Ullrey as well...just a nice switch, varied music!

Podrunner: Intervals - Free Workout Music from dj steve boyett

p.s. Glad your daughter is better! Token system works well with my little one, and pictures on her chore chart.

Hi Alyssa, Thanks, it will be I know Twyla said Ullrey's week 8 has awesome music, but week 9 she says is really bad so she is just running with her own music. It is nice to know there is other music out there.

Thanks - I asked for one of those huge whiteboards from pottery barn to make up a chore chart for all my kiddies. I hope I get it!

Have a beautiful day

Kelley,

I got a huge white board on craigs list for $40!! It is one of the 'teacher sized' ones, 4'x6'. I love it and so do my kids!

Hi Alyssa and Kelley. I completed my first day of Week 3, Day 1. I was pleased that I was able to run the 3 minutes both times and felt ok. I did job the 3 minutes in order to pace myself and make sure I could do it. I am going to try and run tomorrow morning. I noticed our hotel in Vegas has a fitness center. I can try and use the treatmill and run on that to complete the 3rd day of week 3. Don't want to fall behind you guys. I have never run on a treadmill. I hope if don't fall and fly off the back like in those commercials.

Hi Ladies! I just finished week 4 day 1! Can I tell you something...too funny...it is supposed to be warm up, 3 min run, 90 sec recovery, 5 min run and repeat the cycle...

I thought it was 3 min, 90 sec, 3 min, 90 sec, 3 min, 90 sec, 5 min, 5 min cool down It was only after I finished my podcast that I found out the actual cycle was 3 min run, 90 sec rec, 5 min run, 90 sec rec and repeat. I am such a dork...I kept thinking how can I do 5 mins when this 3 min run feels so long! Anyway...that must be runner's humor!!! So I got ambitious...lol...and I ran the Podrunner cast AND the Ullrey cast. In total I did 5.5 miles today!!! With four 3-min runs and four 5-min runs. I sprinted the last min and thought I was going to die...BUT FELT GREAT!! I'm excited to do it again on Tuesday!!!

Ok back from Week 3 Day 2 and I made it. I'm not loving it and so happy when I complete my last run interval. I think I may need to have someone look at my form because today I felt like my ankles needed to be cracked. Hopefully Wed will be better. Alissa send your love of running mojo my way!

Whazzzup with not loving it? What are you not liking about running?

What are your "hurdles"?

BTW, thanks to Alyssa and to you, I checked out the Podrunner's music. I'm gonna explore it a bit. I may want to download specific tunes to make-my-own cast for future runs.

Thanks for visiting us!

I don't know? The first week I felt great. The second week I had difficulty and then that awful last run in week 2. Week 3 Day 1 I felt better, but then on my second run I felt stiff and uncomfortable. I just don't know. Any tips or thoughts. I want to like it and I do enjoy the walks. I have made a promise to myself to stick with it for the full 9 weeks before I make up my mind.

Glad to help. Thanks Alissa for sharing - I hope your day has gotten better.

Hi There! You are inspiring! Kelley told me to check you out...WOW. Fabulous energy and what an inspiration I told Kelley I ordered the Callanetics 10 in 10 because of her work and endorsment! She's awesome too! Thanks for stopping in! I want to be just like you when I grow up

Kelley, are you stretching after the warm up walk and after the cool down walk? I am concerned that maybe your muscles are not getting those important stretches in. The downside to the podcasts, JMHO, they don't prompt you to stretch...for me it makes all the difference. How about your shoes? I did some searching on the right kind of shoes to get for "my foot" I can post that for you to check out. You have been under loads of stress lately with sick little ones...sometimes that impacts our physical self too Hang in there...you can do it!

Week 4 day 2 down! I did an extra 3 min run/90 sec walk and repeat for good measure. I feel great I totalled over 4 miles today...I could have gone more if I did not have to pick my own little monkeys up from school. KIDDING!!! I love em to pieces

Nothing like a great workout to fight off those stress monsters!!

Hey girls! I didn't know if ya'll were still on this site or not. I'll be coming back to this on e more often since I know you're still here. I did my first day of week 4 (my way) today. It was hard, but not as hard as the last day of my week 3 on Monday. I felt horrible Monday - hardly any energy and just plain out heavy, I guess from the crepes I had at bfast. I'm starting to run 3 laps today - up half a lap since Monday. I'm increasing in half lap stages, with equal laps of walking. I did notice that my "recovery" time after running is much shorter than before, usually by the first full lap that I walk. Does this mean I'm getting better at this? I loathe starting the routine each day, but I love the way I feel once it's done! I really believe excercise is the key to almost any diet plan, and it's really helping me with this one. I bounce back much faster now after a naughty day. Thanks for keeping me going ya'll! XOXO...........

Alissa, your running is INSPIRING TO ME!

(Sorry for crashing this party BTW)

But.... yes, I agree, Kelley, with Alissa's tips.

Stretching, before/after
Good shoes
Adequate rest (I always run better on weekends when I'm more rested)
Adequate fuel/carbs (HUGE!)
Focus on pacing
Focus on breathing

And one that Mya shared on the Challenge: Visualize something in front of you -- a goal, a person, an image -- whatever it takes, and imagine yourself that image, and you're running to catch up to that dream.

For me, I would start to get winded/tired, and I tried it: I visualized my legs getting stronger, leaner, with every step, every stride.

Copying my post from the C25K Challenge:

Quote:
[COLOR="DarkOrange"]Okay, the pending question: Does it get easier?

Yes. No. Yes/No.

No pain, no gain?

But tonight when I was doing my run, I thought about what MYANV said:

I imagine myself chasing a skinnier hotter me lol. She turns around and tells me to keep going when I want to stop . That is how i motivate myself, and as crazy as it sounds, it works.

VISUALIZATION.

PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!! You're a wizard!

So there I am, in my last few minutes of my second interval, and I'm thinking when do I get to recover? And then I thought: WRONG TRAIN OF THOUGHT.

SWITCH MENTAL GEARS.

I began thinking to myself: "My legs are getting stronger, leaner. See them? Feel them, Twyla? Feel them getting stronger, Twyla? Do you? Can you see it? Yes, I CAN see it......"

And the mental mantras continued, positive thoughts, repetitive, positive, motivation......!

Eureka!

It works, people!

MVANV......Thank you for sharing that with us!

No more dwelling on the negatives (sore muscles, shortness of breath, sweat, humidity, thirst, etc.)..... we think/see all that we want to become -- that we ARE becoming, with every single step

Just wanted to share this because it was very helpful to me when I was doubting myself.

Best of luck to you, Kelley!

Alissa....YOU GO, GIRL!

Dumb question for ya'll.....What is the proper way of breathing while running? I think that is my biggest problem. I try to inhale through my nose and exhale through my mouth, but thin I feel short winded. Any thoughts?

Yes...inhale through nose exhale through mouth. It forces you to pace your breathing. Though, honestly, when I am exerting I breath in and out my mouth until I have to mentally correct myself. Especially when my allergies act up!

My understanding is that in short bursts mouth breathing is ok...but to 'fill up your lungs' you need deeper "chest breathing" which happens when we use our nose versus diaphragm breathing (belly breathing) which happens when we breath in out mouths. I hope that makes sense. Practice it a few times...mouth breathing versus nose breathing. My trainer had me practice breathing (for improved posture) to detect and feel the difference between my belly moving and my chest moving on inhale and exhale. It made a difference to me...maybe that can help you too!

But.... yes, I agree, Kelley, with Alissa's tips.

Hi ya Renee. I'm with you I loathe starting and I have been having difficulty during the run, but love how I feel afterwards. I love to sweat! I'm going to take Twyla and Alissa's suggestions and see how they help me today. Week 4 Day 1 for me on Friday. Keep it up!
