Fit & Sexy DVD/Video Challenge September 2008

This challenge is for anyone that works out with dvds/videos! Let's meet here daily to hold each other accountable for working out! It will also be a great place to meet and chat about the workout dvds/videos we do and become more informed as to what may or may not work for us. We can even review them here so others will know if that video may be one they may or may not want to purchase. I look forward to working out with you all, giving and receiving encouragement from you and just having fun getting fit (because we are already sexy!)

*Sorry "Challenge" was spelled wrong but for some reason the system won't allow me to change it

Well in August I continued with the Callanetics and although it started changing my body and making me feel good, it failed my expectations. At the end of the month I actually started looking like I was eating KFC daily and not working out at all. My stomach looked terrible. I was told that meant Callanetics was working.....well I don't know about you all but that wasn't making me feel ecstatic!!!!!

I have been on TDY for the last week of August (my crew and I had to go to Georgia for training). I can't say that I stayed on track with eating or with exercise. Being in a hotel room for 7 days was not a good thing for me and I think mentally I knew I was not happy with the way I looked.

I believe finding what works for you is a chore and a challange. I do know when I was working out with weights it did a lot for my body. I am the type of person that MUST see results to continue working out.

This month I think I will go back to working out with weights and minimal cardio and hopefully this stomach i acquired while doing Callanetics disappears. I may do Callanetics once a week because it does make my body feel good. We'll see.....

I'm coming back to ya Jari Love!!!!!!

Whatever you all have chosen as your workout ~ let's keep pushing play

Hi Marcia

What is TDY??

I know what you mean about the Callanetics. It's weird. The sides of my stomach (obliques?) are toning for me. The front is gushy though, even though the muscles are much toner underneath. I even gained three pounds, but I lost them. So my weight loss for the month is zero. That said I'm going to stick with it. I want to see it through and see the results I get ultimately. Even though I'm the same weight I was at the beginning of August, I am smaller. I'll be your guinea pig. My goal is 18 sessions this month.

I didn't meet my cardio goals of twenty sessions last month. I exceeded my toning by one. For September I have increased my cardio goals by 2 and increased the toning by 6. Gotta get it together.

It will be a challenge. I left my husband in August, and I'm angry enough to do a lot of eating and sitting. So I figured it was better to kick up the exercise and really watch my eating instead. I hope it works.

I made it to the gym 5 days last week. I still have the get ripped lean dvd here but may not start it until tomorrow. I was pretty sore last night at work, went to the gym Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So, today may be a rest day, we'll see. I hope my step, weights and other dvds come quickly.

Hey L! I work for the Department of Defense ~ TDY means temporary duty. That was my issue too! My stomach on the sides was getting indented but the front was a hot mess....I mean the 100% muffin top over all my jeans and I always prided myself on having a pretty small stomach even though I am "thick"! I ended up with 10 workouts in August but I decided if that's the way Callanetics is going to make my stomach look then maybe I need to start with a smaller stomach ~ so back to weights for me!

Sorry about you having to leave your husband L . I admire you for taking that anger and instead of eating yourself to death you decided to workout to life! Whatever reason you left him...when he sees you again you'll be looking even more fabulous/sexy!!!!!

You all give me so much inspiration ~ thank you!

Congratulations for working out 5 days at the gym! I am not a gym person and enjoy working out at home! I have all of Jari Love's DVD's and enjoy her style. I remember doing one of them that was really advanced and was not too fond of it!!!!! I will start over with her original Get Ripped and go from there. I also have Joyce Vedral weight training dvds and i like her's also but she moves very fast and you have to be careful as not to hurt yourself.

I hope your dvds, weights and step come in quickly ~ it's hard waiting!!!!

Yeah, I like the gym machines for my lower body workouts and for the treadmill. I'm up to an incline of 10 on the treadmill and like to do this for the cardio/respiratory benefits. I want to slowly work on lifting upper body with free weights using proper form and the dvds will help me with that. I can always use heavier weights as I get stronger.

I hope they come too. The one dvd I have, I rented. I bought a 3-pack of the ripped series from discount dvd so hopefully it doesn't take forever to get here. lol

Hey everyone,

I'm late to the party!

L~ I'm so sorry about the situation with you and your husband. Relationships can be so hard but you're handling this so well. Maybe now would be a good time to try some kickboxing workouts. They're great for relieving stress and anger.

KellyMarie! You're doing great!

Marcia~ Good to see you! I was wondering where you were.

I've decided to commit to doing my p90 Masters rotation. I've had the DVD set since around February and they've just been sitting there. So, I did Sculpt 5/6 on Monday. Tuesday was supposed to be Sweat 5/6 but I ended up walking in the park with the hubby instead so I'm off to a bad start already. I have such a hard time sticking to rotations and doing just 2 DVDs-you're only supposed to rotate Sculpt 5/6 and Sweat 5/6 for the first 3 weeks- for the next three weeks is so not motivating to me.

Hey Trace! I was wondering when you were going to show up to the party! Happy to see you too!

I am totally different from you! I love structure! Well that makes me stick to something more than if I'm on my own! I started back with Jari Love and I am really looking forward to tonight's workout! Just trying to figure out my rest days so I don't burn out. May try to do something like this or something similar:

Sunday ~ Jari Love (or some kind of weight training)
Monday ~ Cardio
Tuesday ~ Jari Love (or some kind of weight training)
Wednesday ~ Rest
Thursday ~ Jari Love (or some kind of weight training)
Friday ~ Cardio
Saturday ~ Rest

Thanks Ladies. You're very kind. I think I'm ok. I admit to having to battle the munchies a bit more (sometimes I succumb), but I haven't absolutely terrible. I exercised tonight for the first time in nearly a week. Unfortunately, no cardio, but I plan to get my butt in gear. After tonight's Callanetics, I feel a lot better. If nothing else, this is a good time for me to finally begin trying to jog. Years ago I used to jog, and I always felt better afterwards.

Well, I'm glad we're all still around. And even growing! Have a good evening.

Good evening Ma Ladies.

I finally got in some cardio tonight. I jogged around inside for about 30 minutes, that counts right? Intermittently, as I would get tired, I'd stop and jog in place. I also got in my second session of Callanetics for the month. My Evolution dvd arrived today. I'm going to watch it tonight and do it on Saturday. I think I'm going to take a Callanetics break tomorrow. Instead I'll do a Bellydance dvd. That will take care of toning and cardio.

Last night was my rest night ~ Yes L that does count! Let me know how that bellydancing goes......I have a couple of those workouts that I have never done. When I was TDY last week, I went to Ross and found a few new workouts for like 4.99 to 6.99 each. Ross is definitly the place to get them! Even got another Jari Love DVD there! They had a few Tracey Mallet ones that I've had my eye on also.

As you all know I collect exercise DVDs so I was elated! The guys that work for me just shook their heads like this makes her happy?

Hey everybody,

I managed to do Sweat 5/6 yesterday. I'm not sure I'm crazy about that workout. I'll do it a few more times but I may have to sub it with Plyo Legs or something for the rest of the rotation. Sculpt 5/6 is on the schedule for today. I have to say this rotation thing isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Then again, it's only week 1.

L~ I agree that jogging can be therapeutic. I personally am not able to focus on anything else when I do it so it's a good way to take your mind off your troubles.

Marcia~ I am trying so hard not to buy another DVD. I am avoiding Ross like the plague.!

KellyMarie~ The gym counts as a workout.

My step arrived! It was here when I got home from work and it says the weights are on their way, maybe they'll arrive today. I am going to go to the gym for some cardio and lower body on the machines today.

Think of it as losing 200+ pounds...

For L. Booker...I left my fiance at the end of June. We were on and off for almost 10 years. Got engaged 2 years ago. I wanted to wait...and I'm so glad I did. Leaving him was painful, but necessary. I'm still kind of in shock, sometimes...but I know that I did the right thing.

I started Callanetics in August and when people started commenting on my weight loss, I tell them that after getting rid of the first 240 pounds (his weight), the rest was easy!!!!

I have found that a little extra exercise really helps me manage any kind of emotional roller coaster. I moved about 30 miles away and he and I don't run in the same circles, but if he and I do meet up, I want to make sure I am looking FABULOUS!!!!

Good luck to you..and I"m rooting for you.

Ellen

I'm not having a productive week in regards to exercise. I made it to the gym only twice. Between getting the elementary school kids ready and then the high school student and setting up all the extra curricular activities and then work, I really didn't find the time or when I had it, I was really tired. But, I still "hate" that I missed any strength training. My step has arrived, I have 5lb weights and that one rented dvd so I am hoping/praying to fit in one the Ripped Lean dvd tomorrow and get back on track this coming week.
