You may as well just move on to the marathon Debbie.

Hi everyone!

Candace: Call me "Mother of the Year" also, 'cuz I HATE the morning school routine. I am not a morning person by any stretch, so adding the school routine is always a pain. Next year I'll have both to get off to the bus ... I'll never be on time for work.

Debbie: You are doing a great job on your hardest week. I haven't even tried any intervals (other than start, jog, walk, jog, walk, collapse. No, I've been recovering pretty well, but I am amazed that you experienced runners can even train that hard ... I look forward to the day.)

Beep: Your neighbor-HOOD sounds like quite a place. Where do you live? I try to run where the least amount of people can see me. It sounds like you live in a bit more of an urban area than me. I certainly love your stories ... just be safe.

A lady I worked with had a sister in Florida who was raped an murdered because a stalker knew her route and followed her into a covered bridge or tunnel of some sort. Her husband found her ... they caught the guy and extradited him to Cuba where he is probably out of prison already. Sad story, but it is a helpful reminder to vary your schedule/route at times so the looney's don't get any ideas!

Ok, THAT was an unexpected turn in conversation.

Dean: It's always a sign that summer is over when the pools close ... I hope that your vacation, though speedy, was (and still is!) a good break from the "grind." I was really amazed at how your day driving to the airport ended with such a great long run. Those unexpected turn of events are the days that are most memorable, to me anyway.

westside: Good run as always. And if you have any more tips for me, fire away. Like I said in the end of the last thread, I value your opinion and I am taking notes!

Suzanne: Glad to hear you should get through the storm safely. Hope your bum feels better soon. I go in for a shot every three months and I know how it feels!

Anyway, I am really itching to give my back a try with a short run. I'll let you guys know tonight how it turned out.

Oh, and PS. I hit my goal weight! (Why I picked a 9 lb loss instead of 10, I have no idea. I guess I was 128 for a long time, so that's what I wanted to get back to ... too bad my stomach doesn't look the way it used to. Darn kids.

I go back to work tomorrow and bringing a head cold along for the ride. I had the sore/scratchy throat yesterday and hoped it was allergies. Today I have more sniffles, but the Comtrex Daytime is keeping it at bay somewhat. I'm not going to sweat it because it's my first cold in over a year.

I'm thankful I got it now because it would really be lame if I caught it on October 11th or 12th. I don't want to run my first marathon sniffling, coughing, sneezing and blowing my nose among other things. Today I ran 51 minutes and I felt fine in the legs, but a little light headed. My worst case scenario will probably be no running for 3 to 5 days if it gets worse and I'll be well rested when it is gone. If I have to adjust my last long run(s) schedule, I'll be able to do so with no problems.

Dean

Tracy - Have fun with your run. Great job on hitting your goal weight.

Deb - Good luck with your speed workout tonight. I'll be looking to do something like that after the marathon is over.

Jen - Be careful out there. Getting yelled at happens to me at times either by school kids or neighborhood drunks. I think some are jealous that they never got off their lazy butts.

Suzanne - Great news about the storm. I remember when I had a friend and her daughter living with me a while back. I took the daughter to school at times and it wasn't easy some mornings. This time of year was the worst with trying to get her in the swing of things again.

Waves hi to Candace, Bill and Tate.

Well, no PRs here today but I did go out and run 2.5 miles OUTSIDE. Started getting pantyline rash again Same panties and same shorts I've worn all summer are suddenly giving me a rash. So I walked home and did 3 X 200 meters at 8 min and 2 X 500 meters and 9 min, then cooled down. Running on the treadmill feels like cheating. It bounces, there is AC...Now if I could run that fast outside in this heat, I'd fell like I had made progress.

Debbie, your program sounds deadly. What are the temps like now?

Jen, creepy neighborhood. Go to the store with the big guy. He should be intimidating enough to keep the skanks away.

Time to go check for the lastest hurricane update. My most joyous time of day. Or not.

I think I don't mind when school starts again because I no longer have little ones. My youngest is 17. I still get up with him though. I make him breakfast because he gets up as late as possible and eats and the bus comes shortly after. I understand his morning laziness. I am the same way. I think he has the night owl in him like me.

It is humid out today and threatening rain. I think it is near 80 but not sure.

There comes a time in most training schedules where it appears to be the most difficult workouts. The key is they are never as bad as they appear because through all the training you are stronger and able to handle it. Yes some workout don't work out well. I never know when that will happen and if it does so be it.

Tracy, sounds like you are ready to get back to running. Take it slow. Walking and running intervals is how I started. Congrats on getting to goal weight. I bet you look super because you are tall and at a weight only 8 pounds more then me and I am like 8 inches shorter then you.

Dean, sorry about the cold. My husband had it a few weeks ago and I was afraid I would catch it. It was during my vacation time and I didn't. I remember last year I caught a cold a few days from the end of my vacation. I ran so much last summer and in the heat when I was in Florida I think it wore me down. I opted not to do that this year.

Suzanne, don't be so hard on yourself. Those intervals sounded pretty speedy to me.

I saw two members of my training program at the gym yesterday. They did the tempo workout on the treadmill and were whipped. I can't do 8 miles on a treadmill. I also can't maintain a perfectly steady pace. I slow down and speed up here and there.

I am off to the track soon. Praying we don't get totally soaked but then again it will cool us off. I think we are sharing the track with the marathon training program and off course the usual club members who are there every Wednesday so it will be crowded tonight. Only two more workouts after this one and next week we are off to the hills I think.

popped in to say "allo!" and OMG 20 million zillion things and meetings to do at work. I LOVE it! Normally I am sitting around a bit more and not moving around as much doing big ole stats reports. Right now we're gearing up for the new academic year so we're in planning process. FUN!!!! It's a nice change...

errr..... ughhhhhh weird.... i got a job interview message on my phone today!

I just accepted my new position and I am happy with it. WHY people wait 2 months to hire applicants after a job posting is not only beyond me but annoying!

whatever!

I am enjoying my day and I gotta go take care of a bunch of stuff here...

bbl....

Well I survived!

I did a real short run.

I started out with a walk, then I only allowed myself to run 10 minutes. I could feel it in my back/hip, but it was not the sharp pain (thankfully) ... more like tension in my hip, so I think if I just build up slowly, I'll be fine.

I got the lecture from my husband about why do I try to run when "running is so bad for your (as in everyone's) joints." I know that is not true if you train properly, but I wasn't up for arguing. (He also still believes you can catch a cold from being in cold weather, so now you know what I'm up against. )

So anyway, I just dropped in to let you all know I am on the road to recovery and feelin' fine!

Jen: I totally have that same pet peeve. One day the phone rang one day as I was leaving for work. When I answered, the guy was calling to set up an interview with me and he acted like I had just sent in my resume that week. My mind went totally blank as I am trying to figure out what he's even talking about since I had been working for over 5 months at my job. I told him I already had another position and it wasn't until I was driving to work that I figured out he was reading my application from over 6 months ago ... um totally unprofessional in my opinion.

I'm glad your new position is working out for you.

Dean: Hope you feel better soon.

You too, Suzanne, we don't need any more rashes!

Debbie: Hope you don't get soaked at the track, though sometimes I like running in the rain.

Good night!

Oh and I attempted some of my Callanetics DVD and boy am I a stiff old bird! I'd have to do it for about a week to get used to those movements! They look easy but I could really feel it.

Good morning. It was a great track workout last night but difficult. She added skips before we did the mile repeats and she added strides after the miles and before the cool down. I found the first mile not too hard. It was one second under the 8:40 she had as our pace. The second was harder and I think one second over and the third I was around 8 seconds over. Even at 8 seconds over it was around my best 5K time. Now the weird thing is I didn't use my Garmin as my stop watch and when I went back and looked at the mile splits on my Garmin it had me going way faster and that was with the 200 recoveries. I wish I did a mile at the paces my Garmin said I did but I am sure the fact I was in the outside lanes and it adds to the distance some it had me faster then my stop watch. Oh well it looks good on the screen and I was strong. The strides are where I have trouble. I can't sprint all out without hamstring pain. I saw a guy who pulled his hamstring( I hope he didn't tear it) doing these sprints( strides).

I have a 3 mile easy run on tomorrow's schedule. I am working and doing it today. Today it is raining but not too hard. I will do easy pace. I don't really have a good three mile loop but I will figure it out with my Garmin.

Tracy, you must be very happy. Yes take it slow.

Candace, hope you aren't too sore today. Sounds like you rarely take a day off from exercise. It is a good idea to do that.

Hey Folks,

Kind of sleepy this morning here... I have a stats conference to attend today. I hope the food is healthy there. If not, I'll be eating elsewhere. I'm hoping nothing crazy bad for me.

Well I'm just trying to wake up here...

Tracy I so know what you mean!

okay I really just need wake up.

just did my easy run. it is weird. it is only in the 60s yet I am so hot and dripping. I guess it is all relative. The rain pretty much has stopped. I never worry too much about rain unless I have to stand around in it. Running in it is actually pretty nice.

hope you have a good day Jen.

since I nibbled on left over blueberry pancakes before my run I am having honey dew for my post run breakfast. I guess I need some protein so better go eat some cottage cheese too.

Today DH and I did 6 miles OUTSIDE. I drank 3/4 liter of water spread out during two water breaks. We finished in 1:10 (including the breaks) but DH had longer breaks than I did while he waited for me to catch up We sprinted the last 100 meters. I lost 4 lbs in water weight

Off to the bank for the 3rd day in a row. I need an address change and a credit card. Every time I go, there are so many people waiting that I end up leaving because it's time to pick the kids up at school. Hope to get an earlier start and plan to take a good book. .

The humidity gets to me, even running in the 90s in CA doesn't feel like running in the 90s here because we have 90%+ humidity almost all the time. I like running in a light drizzle, but have had some runs here when I came home having gained 10 lbs of water weight instead of losing it. There's nothing quite like running in soaking wet clothes with shoes full of water.

Got a pair of Adidas capri length running pants today. They are supposed to be made of a wicking fabric, and I did not recognize the fiber name in Spanish(was looking for something with microfiber and kept finding stuff with polyester--I don't care what they say, I will never believe that polyester can be cool). Anyway, hope they help with the chafing. I also got one of those personal towel thingys that you can keep wringing out. Usually I carry a dish towel as a sweat rag. The last time I went diving a client had one of these little towels and it was amazing how well it worked and how soft it was. Hope it helps the chafing on my face because I hate wasting Body Glide on my face.

Could I be any less motivated to workout today? ... um no.

I HATE days like this. I think it's because my husband and I needed a quick lunch so we tried a buffet-style restaurant and it wasn't a good choice.

We both are not used to eating carb-heavy or fried foods anymore, so we did the best we could with veggies and the meat options. It all just seemed so unhealthy that we both agreed to take that restaurant off our list.

Now I just feel like a slug.

I just needed to post to give myself a kick in the pants. Now I need to get on the machine ... bbl!

(Thanks for listening to me whine. )

I took off today due to my head cold. I've been stuffy on and off all day and thought it good to rest. I'm back at work also and thankfully it is pretty quiet. I may take off tomorrow and run easy Saturday. That way, I'll get in three runs for the week (and the swimming cross training from Tuesday). I have a long run scheduled for Tuesday. It is a three hour plus adventure so I hope this cold will be gone by then.

Ok I've been tuned in to MSNBC all day so I finally just turned it up,listend and walked! I hope everyone had a good workout day.

IBF- Tell me about the school thing! My son started kindergarten and today I actually left him before the bell rang ( I had to be on time for work today!) I was worried silly he wouldn't get where he needed to be, I ended up calling the school later and having them check to make sure he WAS in the class! WHEW!

Debbie when I first started trying to make getting my excercise in a regular thing, I went by the premise that ok they say it takes 21 days to form a habit right? So I did that..... it worked LOL. I know by now I could ease up 1-2 days a week but I kind of start obsessing about it a bit during the day if things come up and it takes me too long to get to it or the flow of my day doesn't go as planned . When I actually should just relax a bit.I'm going to get there eventually.....lol I just want to get in better shape before I do!

Jen, glad you had a superb day! What did you do?

Candace, I never knew that about 21 days. I know I can lose a good habit in less time than that...

Tracy, bummer about the buffet. I try to avoid them as I never get my money's worth. DH compensates

Gotta get ready to run; I have to drive to the capitol with my lawyer this morning (all day trip, 8 hours total driving time) as the buyer of the dive shop is going to miss his deadline next Wed. We could be azzhats and keep his $40K deposit and start looking for another buyer. Or we can keep waiting while he stalls and lets us suck up the expenses of low season and the risk of hurricanes. That makes me angry enough to want to run HARD and FAST. Let's see if I can survive the heat.

I am working today. I am running 16 tomorrow and then traveling. Got my son moved last night and missed Obama's speech. I have heard many parts of it though. I didn't want to miss history but my son doesn't have cable yet and all the cords to his stereo were still packed.

Suzanne, Is it worth taking the $40,000 and waiting for another owner. If you threaten to do this will the current buyer be forced to act vs. wait out the season?? It does stink.

Candace, I am truly a creature of routine. I have made my rest part of my routine. I am going to hate not being able to run Monday due to being away but not even packing running clothes because time in Syracuse is going to be short and I have tons to do. I will try and get the workout it Tuesday morning before work if I have the energy after traveling and not getting home till late Monday night. If I miss one workout my legs will thank me.

Deb I missed the speech too. Ugh I've been BAD about following the news this week. I go through phases but seriously this is embarassing! I'll listen to my stations on the way to work and make sure to read up over the weekend. I actually enjoy reading about this stuff for leisure if that makes any sense.

My day was good because it was a bit different than normal 'cause I didn't go to work (similar to Monday). Like Monday I went to a conference. I really enjoyed both of them and everything was good! My run was nice and strong too.

I'm going to work today though it was planned for me to have the day off. I need to go in because I am moving offices now. I am going to wear casual clothes to work 'cause I'll be packing boxes and moving and stuff.

I babysit my little neice and nephew this weekend! We're only going to be doing this for a day but that is plenty for me with a 8 month old and an almost 2 year old. My fiancee will help me out, thank god!

need more coffee....

I listened to Obama's speech. It went well. I think Obama will win the election 53/47%. There are too many independents this year and they will more than likely go with Obama. I'm an independent and what I see is Obama leading the democratic party whereas, while McCain claims to be a maverick, the Republican party is leading John McCain. This will become more pronounced as we move towards November. In spite of the riff between Clinton and Obama, the democrats haven't been this cohesive since the 1960 election.
This time they seem to have all the nutjobs locked up somewhere.
