Hey everyone - I've been lazy about my Callan, gotta get on it TODAY!! Just wanted to share that my ex-husband referred to the underarm jiggle as "tater-whipping arms".

Love this place! You're all so inspiring and wonderful!

I've done another hour and a bit since my last post. I'm a little behind, lots of things going on in my daily life at the moment, all good stuff though!

Well, I'm a lurker who's fallen off the callanetics bandwagon and I'm back as I have the summer off and have no excuses.

Sandrahanna,

I hope you don't mind me asking, I've just purchased Callanetics Evolution (very excited, btw), do you follow a particular diet plan? Are you naturally thin, or is it a direct result from callanetics? Do you do anything in addition? I'm just saying this because your figure is fabulous!

I did Pure Barre today Too!

Though I find the standing plie' work tough but manageable, whenever I start the standing side work, the opposing leg starts to shake dramatically?? I hope this means I'm really working deep!

Hello everyone! I finished my 7th hour last night. I've been staying in and waering loose gowns all the time so I have no idea whether the exercises have reshaped my body or not.

what concerns me is that i'm not sure if i've got proper form. i do the best that i can and i do feel the burn. i'm worried that if without proper form, no matter how many hours i put in, i won't get the wonderful results that i've seen you girls achieve.

Are you in London? There is an amazing teacher in Maidenhead (20 mins from Paddington Station). It's worth making the effort to visit her even if it's only once. She will give you loads of corrections and check you are doing things right. I took a class with her and it was fantastic!

Just finished my 9th hour of 10 of 10/10 for July. WhooHoo I'm ahead of the game. I'm feeling so good after I do it my new goal is to do it 5 days a week.

Emily - I like you find I don't "watch the clock" while I'm doing 10/10 like I do with many of my other workouts. I've sort of put them on the shelf awhile to see how this works. I plan on starting the 4 weeks to run 1 mile program (I know pathetic), but I'm not ready for the C25K yet. Need that cardio. Plus I'm going to give the push up challenge a try too

Finished another session of 10/10...6/12 in July. I've been lazy and will have to pick it up to finish on goal.

I was thinking about trying the 100 push-up challenge thingy too. My only concern is that, like many ppl for whom Callanetics has produce beautiful lean lines, I bulk like crazy when I lift weights. I don't want bulky biceps. Wouldn't mind a bit more of a lift across the upper chest though. As I have slimmed down this time things are a bit, errrm, droopier than I would have hoped. Any advice from anyone as to how to minimize bicep bulk while improving upper body strength?

TIA,
-Di

Use light weights, high reps. It won't bulk you this way, and you'll still get the toning.

For the pecs, do inclined flies or bench press, light weight, high reps.

For the inclined flies, inhale as you lower the weights to your sides, elbows bent, and don't allow the weights to go below the level of your chest/shoulders, then exhale as you raise the weights directly above your shoulders.

Pushups are great for all the above.

twyla, how light are light weights? 5 lbs?

also, am i the only one who likes to do callan (or cardio) first thing in the morning with no food in my stomach? i must have a slow-emptying stomach or something, because once i've had something to eat, exercise makes me nauseous even 3 hours after eating. i know they say to have something first, but it really makes me -- and leaving it for later on in the day means it likely won't get done .

Finished 6 hours and am very pleased to report that a small gap has started to show between my thighs. Very small, and in the lower thigh area, to be sure, but hey, a thigh gap is a thigh gap:

CallanFan,

5 lbs is a good option for light weights, high reps. There's no way you're gonna get bulky lifting 5 lbs, but it will aid in toning. Depends on the muscle you're working too. For instance, biceps are usually stronger. I can lift more weight with my biceps, my back and my chest than I can working my deltoids, for instance. So you may have to go up a pound or two for certain muscle groups, but it's not going to add bulk.

As for ex'g on an empty stomach: There's not been shown any valid reason or argument for why one SHOULD or SHOULD NOT exercise on an empty stomach. The point is, if it makes you nauseous, then you've defeated the purpose of the fact you're making time for exercise. What's most imp is that YOU'RE EXERCISING.

The theory is that on an empty stomach, our body will burn through stored carbohydrates first, then protein, and THEN it goes for the fat. So as a result, our blood sugar is lowered, and this causes big time hungries, and some people may be likely to eat too much at their next meal. So a suggestion would be a small piece of fruit, which would be metab'd rather quickly and give you just the right amt of energy for your best workout.

That said, I don't find that I need as much energy doing Callanetics as I would cardio. I prefer something, but I would be fine without eating before Callan.

It's everyone's personal preference, and no harm is done either way.

Hope that helped.

very helpful, thank you ma'am

i could do a small piece of fruit before cardio, but i think i'll stick with an empty stomach for callan -- too much bending and other types of stomach-squishing going on. but at least now i can do it with a clear conscience

Em, it's VERY normal. You are experiencing the effects of the deepest, transforming magic you'll ever come across. It's very imp that you stretch adequately, relax and stretch, during all the stretching throughout the workout. This will alleviate soreness too.

Good job

Noreen - the new look, but I also PINK! I read your story and I'm where you were after having your 3rd baby - there is hope for me yet

I do have one suggestion - Can you put all 3 pics of your peachy bottom in a row so you can really see the transformation? Your transformation in just so amazing it would be great to see the progression all right there!

8th hour of 10 in 10 this morning.

CallanFan, I always do my Callanetics in the morning before I eat. I, too, know that one is supposed to eat breakfast first thing, but I infinitely prefer my little routine of exercise, brush teeth, and other morning preparations first, then a nice protein shake or some mini sausages. As long as I get some protein within an hour or so after working out, I feel fine.
