just completed hour 6 of Evolutions. You guys wouldn't believe it, but I ate almost a gallon of ice cream after dinner tonight! yeah, I couldn't believe it until I looked at the container when I was finished. So I think that's why I just didn't feel 100% tonight when doing my workout. ugh! never going to do THAT again!!

Hi Pam,,

It really depends how tall you are and how flexible you are. My barre's vary in height from 33" - 35". I also have a hanging ladder for extra tight hamstrings.

You are going to be pulling back on them so make sure they are super secure as someone else has already pointed out to you. My barres are drilled in to the flooring on big bases. What a lovely husband you have doing this for you though and having your own space to workout is perfect. You'll feel 'in the mood' as soon as you walk in. I burn the same blend of essential oils in my studio so that my students smell it before they even come in to the studio and, hopefully, get in the workout mode

If you have a ballet studio near you why not go in and try out the barres - see how they're fitted and what height will work well for you.

In Evolution it's the wide leg format position. You stretch up and over with hand resting on thigh or advanced with elbow resting. In 10/10 the legs are hip width apart. Both follow the arm exercise.

So, to accelerate 'pull in' maintain a maximum stretch out of pelvic floor and as you pulse try to stretch out even further. Keep the hip on the stretched side down, even with other side and relaxed.

Remember, if you let the hip lift you will be bringing up the pelvic floor also and lose the counterpulls. This is vital and why we highlighted this on the DVD - it's an extremely common error in classes.

The other exercise on Evolution that accelerates 'pulling in' is the stretch before the hip and behind exercises. Again, when in position intensify with deep breathing, deeper PF engagement and further lengthening/stretching out of pelvic floor until you feel the deep stretch in the hips.

To intensify this stretch - when in position IE: you're stretching the right side so, your right leg is bent in front and the left leg is stretched out. YOu've rotated to the right and stretched up and over to the left and now your left arm is relaxed down in front of the left leg with your right arm stretched up and over your head. Get in to your peak/best position use your breathing to intensify the stretch then very gently bring your right should back a little more and allow your left shoulder to come forward trying to get your shoulders vertically aligned. You'll feel the stretch through your hips intensify and you also feel it creeping forward over your hip bones.

Remember, to keep your spine straight and your shoulder blades back down to hips and widen them out (4th counterpull).

I do hope you're not confused

OMG, seriously, you are one bad Callanetics devotee

Your penance is an extra 100 pulses of abdominal exercises

The traditional hip and behind position in Evolution is also great for pulling in the hips.

Really though, the more you focus on stretching out of the pelvic floor the more you'll feel the body pull in as you train. Create as much tautness in the muscles that you are training and the pulse will penetrate deeply. After you've done a couple of sessions focusing on this your body will feel as though you've been sucked in to the core.

I'll let you go now and leave you in peace to work off that icecream

I know I'm not actually overweight as I'm a UK size 8, but I'm really untoned and out of shape. No matter what size you are, a toned body always looks best
Where abouts in the UK are you? If you are near London then I would suggest going to a few Callanetics classes with Agnes. She is based in Maidenhead and will be able to check your form etc.

Here's her website with contact details: 10 YEARS YOUNGER IN 10 HOURS | PRIVATE CLASSES AVAILABLE

It's alright pardner, count it as small hiccup and carry on! I'm back from my retreat and I actually got a chance to do some callan while there, from memory of course, but I did it. And I did not eat everything in sight like last year! 7 hrs completed so far.

Sandra - Thank you, your explanations are really helpful and reassuring!!! I was out shopping last night and I really wanted to try some things on but I didn't let myself.

The weird thing about all this is, I'm feeling fabulous and I think I'm looking more toned, but then I measure and the number has gone up! Also, some of my old, tight pants are fitting better. It doesn't seem to make sense at all. But, I'm going to keep at it!

Yesterday I received my very own hardcover copy of 10 years in 10 hours via eBay. OMG, what a treasure!! The pictures are gorgeous.

Does anyone know, where is Callan now? Is she still teaching?

Hey, eveyone. I'm back from vacay, and there's no way I could possibly catch up on all the posts in my absence. Just wanted to say it's good to be back and see all the new faces that have joined the challenge.

Managed to get in 2.5 sessions of Super while on vacay, along with a good bit of cardio. Yesterday's session was esp tough -- and I'd only missed four days between sessions! My muscles were SCREAMING all evening! This really surprised me, but I love that kind of pain.

I tried to skim the last couple of pages, and SANDRA! I saw your pics! You're so beautiful and such a tremendous force in the inspiration of this incredible workout! Absolutely amazing!

I love, love this workout!

Hi Twyla, glad you're back safe & sound.

No Callanetics lately because I've been shoveling sand and mortar for several days now and I'm incredibly sore. I'm still walking during my lunch hour, though but even then I have to argue with myself over whether to do that much. Hopefully, in a couple of days when my muscles recover a bit, I'll pick back up.

Hi everyone!!!

I discovered callenetics about 10 years ago. And yes, the excercises are amazing, with fast assured results. I stopped doing callenetics about 4 years ago, other demands got in my way, work, love life etc!!! But seriously I found myself becoming "out of shape"... and there was my old faithful ,Callenetics to the rescue!!!! So..... I restarted the programme a week ago... and yes,I have already I have seen the changes. It's so good to read everyones comments here, it's especially ecouraging hearing that, others too are experiencing the benefits of a wonderful system. I still have a long way to go, my target areas are my thighs!!! (urgh... if only liposuction was in a flick of the finger!!! ) But i'm still going!!! Determined to zap those saddle bags!!! To those of you who are feeling the strain (like me at times..) keep going!!! A change will come!!! Hip hip (slim ones!!!) horray for Callenetics!!!

Hey, just realised you guys are all in the middle of summer - it's freezing cold here so ice cream definitely isn't on the menu.

1 Hour of Super Callanetics tonight. Boy, that one is tough...moves very fast, by the time I was set up on most of the exercises the counter was already near (20) !! Maybe I need to do 10/10 a few more times, but Super Callanetics will be good to do, and work up to it. 10/10 doesn't seem challenging for me.

Doing Super Callanetics, is it normal to feel the work in your supporting leg? I was feeling my butt screaming through the entire thing!

Does anyone do any other Barre workouts along w/ Callanetics?

Have a good night!
