WOE: Abs Diet
Part of 10/10 done, Only did Abs/Hips/bum (also added in Bar Method Legs). I feel like I got a really good workout tonight ... Really felt the burn

Question .. ? when doing the Bum/Hips exercises laying on the floor, do you ever feel any pressure on your knees? I seem to feel it more on the right then the left. Is this b/c my form is off in some way?

Thanks guys for your lovely comments. Thought you may like to see this pic. I'm 24 years old in this one, weighing 72 kilos - not sure but probably about 150 lbs. I'd just starting working out at the gym. I know it doesn't show my lower body, I can't find any that show my butt. I always wore clothes to disguise that area - as we girls do Oh, my shape was more pear shaped. I always had a nice waist and not much of an stomach problem but my butt and hips where pretty big. Funnily enough it was my big butt that attracted my first husband

However, I must add that I wasn't like this when I started Callanetics. I lost weight shortly after this pic was taken - I thought I looked like Miss Piggy from the Muppets at the time - "kissy, kissy Kermie..."

The weight loss left me with a saggy butt that no amount of squatting, machines or aerobics would improve. My legs have a tendancy to get bulky so they were getting pretty bulky from my gym routine.

I discovered Callanetics at 31 after my second son was born and that was when I finally was able to sculpt the body shape I was after. I wanted a lifted firm butt with legs that had muscle definition but not bulky and a toned upper body. As I mentioned in an earlier post I used to use light weights when I used the 10/10 video. I don't use weights over 2lbs as I want my upper body to match my lower body and maintain a lean look.

One point though, as someone mentioned, you can never get the body you had back in your 20's. There are other factors to consider. As I had big butt and saddlebags once my butt and outer thighs still hold the memory with stretch marks. My skin is no longer as elastic but I'm only aiming to be in my best shape for my years.

Also, I've never been one to take time for massage and I've come to realise that massage is important to maintain collagen in the skin - body and face. I did do skin brushing for a while and that was fantastic. So I'm taking a bit more time these days to give my body a good brush and massage oil in quite vigorously.

I do believe in the power of visualisation so it's important to keep in mind, at all times, the body shape you are after. See it when you look in the mirror, feel it - it's so important to claim 'your' perfect shape right now. Always affirm the positive in your body and acknowledge perfection in the areas you don't like. When I started Callanetics I had to see my perfect butt and know that I already walked around with a perfect peach and not the jiggly, melting behind that I actually had.

If you want lean legs tell yourself daily you already have them and see them getting leaner with each workout.

Happy Pulsing

You really do look fantastic. I am also 52, and hope to have a firm body like yours by the time I'm.....ummmm....62.

Well I am back at it. Cast is gone and I completed 1 hour of 10/10 tonight.

sandra,

what regimen do you prescribe for your students who really want to flatten their bellies? i'm pretty much at the right weight for my age and height (120, 51, 5'5"), and i've already seen a lot of improvement in my midsection from callanetics: to some degree, obliques appeared, waist nipped in, lower belly pulled in. but how do you achieve that really flat, hard belly with no jigglies? you know, like sandra has??

my results

Hi everyone! I started Callanetics on 3/31/08. I have done 24 hours of Callan exercises since then. I was doing Pure Barre before I found Callan so I have kept doing Pure Barre once a week also.

I have lost 8 lbs and the following inches:

Right Arm -0.6 inch
Chest -1.13 inch
Waist -1.35 inch
Hips -2.1 inch
Right Thigh -0.8 inch
R calf -0.3 inch

I have taken pics and maybe soon I will post.

i believe the plank and side plank exercise is the best to achieve the flat stomach

do four times front/rt side left side

hold position atleast 30 seconds and work up to a minute...suck in your stomach and stay tight....it acts like a girdle ....key is to be consistent and do every day ...it hurst like hell but i one month you will see....plank challenge anyone...lol

Just done Quick Callanetics Stomach and Quick Callanetics Hips and Behind. Doing those together actually feels even harder than 10/10.

I posted a while ago in the Exercise forum about Cali v. Shapely Secrets~
Well I Chose Cali, and got my 10/10 DVD today!

I am planning to start tomorrow or Monday, when I have the house at least partly to myself! I hate to start a new program with people around, Its awkward enough doing it the 1st time alone!
I did AM/PM and beginning cali many MANY years ago, but I remember little of it.

I know I am Way late for the June, But I will still jump in, and then be on track for a July challange!

This has been a great thread to read through!
Very motivating!
Thanks~

plank

The plank exercise ranked number 10 in the ACE study and is a great way to build endurance in both the abs and back, as well as stabilizer muscles. To do it right:
1. Lie face down on mat resting on the forearms, palms flat on the floor.
2. Push off the floor, raising up onto toes and resting on the elbows.
3. Keep your back flat, in a straight line from head to heels.
4. Tilt your pelvis and contract your abdominals to prevent your rear end from sticking up in the air.
5. Hold for 20 to 60 seconds, lower and repeat for 3-5 reps.

then do on each side
The Plank is a static exercise for strengthening the abdominals, back and shoulders. Isometric strength is important for stabilizing the trunk in various sports and exercises. The abdominal plank is a great exercise for strengthening the transverse abdominus. The transverse abdominus is the deepest layer of abdominal muscle and wraps around the whole midsection. When you contract the abdominals, your waist becomes thinner. This is the action of the transverse. Therefore, a strong transverse abdominus means a smaller, tighter waist. When you are doing the plank exercise or a variation of the plank, make sure to contract your abdominals while remembering to breath. Side planks are a variation of the regular plank.

Starting position: Lift your body of the ground and balance on one forearm and the side of your foot. Contract your abdominals and relax your shoulders. And breath.

Movement: No movement, just hold that position ... keep holding.

Its a terrible 114 out so far today....Yesterday it hit 118 out! Fortunately I didn't have to go outside much yesterday. Today was another story and I tried but I'm way too hot to do callanetics... I can't wait for the summer to be over. I swear at the rate the heat is going I'm going to end up consuming nothing but fluids.

Marian, I'd hate to see you give up, but I understand your frustrations. Wont you stick it out for a few more sessions and see if you get results?

Marian,

So sorry you are feeling down, weight gain 6-7lbs is PREFECTLY NORMAL are you start Callanetics, also you clothes may or may not feel tighter because you body is changing quickly. You may get a pooch (belly) but you will see that it will flatten out quite fast.

Don't give up because Callanetics has sooo much to offer, tighter body, more strength in your body.longer, leaner legs, thighs will also lean out. Nice nipped waist, hips & behind will lift and shape.
Take it from it, it will happen.
Soon to be a Certified Callanetics Teacher.

Hmmm...I just measured myself after 4 hours, and to my horror my abs seem to have gained 2 inches, and nothing else has budged...I can feel my muscles getting stronger, though. Weight loss has stalled.

I'm not giving up but this is kind of scary...Sandra? Anyone?

Noreen, we seem to have been posting at the same time! So, how long would you say is reasonable to see some shrinkage? Old timers, can you share your stories of how long it took to see the kind of results you were looking for?

Hi Antonya!

I think it depends on how many times a week you are doing Callanetics, if your WOE has changed or remained the same. Some people have seen results within a few days and when they have stuck it out even more results within a few short weeks.
This past March when i started to train to become a Certified Callanetics Teacher i went from 10/10 to Super C and my body changed within 3 weeks, even more pulled in and tight.
