I can't do this video yet. I don't understand it.
There is no twisting or anything?
I can walk for miles outdoors, but walking in place kills me. Sigh.
This really upset me this morning. I was all set to get started.
Well, I ended up walking in the pool. I guess I will do my miles regular walking.
I'll give this another try in a week and see if I have progressed any in my healing.
I ended up having to take pain pills after just 5 minutes of the video this morning. Disappointing.

BarbDe- I'm so sad to hear that. I thought the videos do a good job of walking and light aerobic moves in intervals. I'm so sad for you. I hope you can find something and stick with us.

Out of curiousity, which video did you watch that had NO other moves aside from walking in place? I have four and they all have different movements aside from marching in place.

Good luck finding something you like.

There are other moves, but I didn't get that far into the video. I only lasted about 5 minutes.

I have Walk Away the Pounds Express. 1 mile Easy Walk and 2 miles Brisk walk.

I'll get there. It's the back surgery recovery process. I am Just not good at being patient. But I really don't get why I can't walk in place. I've been walking 2-3 miles outside!

I'm going to stick with my outside walking and count those miles if it's OK with everybody, though.

Walking in place is harder to do than walking outside, in my opinion, and doctors and physical therapists I've talked to agree. Don't get discouraged!!!

Yes, walking in place is MUCH harder. As I said in the other thread (I think), I am a restaurant server and I wore a pedometer on a slow day, and walked over 14,000 steps, on one shift. I walk all day, every day. The first time I did WATP, I thought I would just breeze right through a couple of miles. I had to stop, after about 5-minutes.

BarbDe, there is a difference in something just being difficult, and something that hurts you. If you are recovering from back surgery, do not do anything that hurts you. Before long, you'll be recovered, and then you can do more.

Also, you can adapt some of the moves, to fit your own personal needs. I have to adapt the WATP workouts, so I don't further injure my knee. For example, when they do leg kicks (kick the feet in front of them), I just do toe touches...touch right toe in front of me, then touch left toe in front of me. You also don't have to pick your feet up, as high as they do. Just do what you can...no more.

Above all, if something doesn't feel right, don't do it. Further injuring your back, isn't worth it. If you want to walk in your pool, or outside, it doesn't bother me.

You certainly can! I choose to walk my half-mile every day, but as you can see, others want to do alot, just a few days a week...some even want to do more than the 3.5 miles. As long as you have a total of at least 3.5 miles, at the end of the week, you met the challenge.

No it's not hard, it's scattered & uncoordinated. Leslie is all over the place & the arm exercises are so complicated that you have to concentrate on those more than the actual walking. The worst to me is that there isn't any cooldown, the workout just ends. I love Leslie but I have to say I was very unimpressed with this one.

Here is a clip of it on her website: The Official Walk At Home Store

I did my pm 2 miles and it just keeps feeling better and better. I feel stronger physically and mentally doing this! I have been talking this up so much that I got my hubby to join me! He felt bad because he's pretty uncoordinated, but he tried his tail off!

I definitely think I have found a great place for me with 2 miles twice a day. I would like to spend 4 weeks at this level and add a mile each month. This was a great start to our challenge!

Try WATP Walk Away Your Waistline-many different moves with a resistance band for upper body workout too.

Anything that gets your heart rate higher than usual, will help you lose weight. The jury is out, on how long your heart rate needs to be up, but they are now saying 15-minutes is plenty...that you can do several 15-minute workouts, if you want to. Your heart rate should be higher than it is, when you've not been doing anything.

Good Morning Challengers!

It sounds like everyone is off to an amazing start.

BarbDe - I'm sorry this isn't for you, just yet. Keep going, walk any way that you can, recovery is the most important thing.

Honeychild - I think the 1 mile booster is geared more towards strength than cardio. There are so many different extras out there, don't let that one discourage you. Do you have any other videos to use?

Skoolmarm - you sound just like me, I feel so great doing these video's. I also break mine up into 2 sessions daily due to time restraints (I'm already up at 4am just to squeeze in 2 miles) You are doing an awesome job!

Sassy - you should have no problem losing weight and toning up with 20 minutes of aerobics, although it really depends on what kind of shape you are in now. If it seems too easy, then it likely is - for you, try bumping it up another 10 minutes or so, or try doing more advanced workouts.

Melle & Lynelle - great job starting out! And having a plan is the key to meeting your goals!

This morning I did 2 miles of the advanced fat burning from the original series and after work I will do 3 miles of the 5-mile advanced video. I love how it fires me up in the morning, I sit most of the day at work so it really helps to wake me up.

KUTGW Everyone!

Well, I went ahead and did a full mile, this morning. I was wanting to alternate this with my Jazzercise workout that I ordered, so I was just going to do a half mile of WATP, every day.

But, I got the laserdisc (49 cents from ebay)...still new in the package (unwrapped). Well, it had oxidation (which is fairly common with older laserdiscs). For those who don't know what laserdiscs are, they were very short lived...before DVDs. They look like record albums, but they're silver (like CDs). They are actually very big DVDs, but they don't last as long, unless you make sure NO MOISTURE gets to the disc. I read that moisture can seep through the plastic wrap. It wasn't the seller's fault, they couldn't have known, because it was still unwrapped. I would send it back, but for 49 cents, why bother? This is a very old workout (from the 80's). My daughter and I used to do this workout EVERY DAY, when she was a little girl. We both LOVED it, and it's pretty good for my knee...no jumping or anything. SO, I went back on ebay and found another laserdisc, which the seller had played, and said it works. It was a little bit more, but at least I know it works. I can't find it on anything except laserdisc, or I'd order it on another format. Luckily, DH holds on to all old equipment, and we still have a Laserdisc Player. When it comes in, I'm going to copy it onto VHS tape, so if anything happens to the disc, I'll still have it. We don't have a DVD recorder.

Anyway, I'm upping the amount of WATP I'm doing every day. Then, when the Jazzercise disc comes in, I'll do some days WATP and some days Jazzercise.

Yes I have about seven different WATP DVDs. I don't own that one, it was one of the free ones offered on ExerciseTV. I'm so glad I didn't buy it!

nicsweed- Walk Slim has NO walking intervals? What exactly does that mean?

"WATP Walk Away Your Waistline"-- This is my fave DVD of the four I own. There are so many different variations- I am sweating my tail off by 1 mile- that's only my 1/2 way point!! This one is also the most fun for me. BarbDe- maybe you should try this one-- when you're fully recovered, of course.

I got my next 2 DVDs in the mail today I didn't realize that some of her workouts are the same ones with different covers-- kinda tricky if you don't read closely I guess I gotta resell. I'm sure I'll sell quickly, though.

On the bright side, I did my am and pm 2 miles---- 4 miles today! Never, ever would I have thought I was capable of this!!!

I can only imagine how far I will push myself once I lose even more weight?!

Everyone is doing great!

Did another 2 miles this morning. Since it's still so early in the week, I might just add another mile or 2 later in the week.

All of you are so inspiring. I feel so encouraged.

I did get out and get some walking done yesterday. It was pretty nasty out with the smoke from the fires, so it wasn't much. But I did get out and do some shopping and/errands. Which was a big day for me.
I'm going to go pick up a pedometer today. My last one broke. So I will be able to keep better track of my miles.
I'm still bummed about not being able to do the video, but I'll get there. I was just looking forward to doing something again.
Seriously, if you guys could see my video collection, you would understand my frustration. LOL.
