Pouring and cold. Figure I could skip today's run and do it Wednesday. I work today and don't have time to get to the gym to run and get home to go to work. I am off Wednesday.

Maybe the rain will keep people away from the ER but it didn't yesterday!

Thanks for the thread start as usual Tate!!!

Kelly didn't you have a race last weekend???

Deb---Sorry you had to miss your run, but the occasional unplanned rest day can be good for your bod. Hope the ER does not get too nuts.

I am sure the rain is falling by you too Tate. If I had time I would go to the gym but you're right. Sometimes rest is good.

Have a super duper day!

Thanks for the start, Tate, have a great week!

Debbie, enjoy your rainy day and good luck at work. You and Tate both have such emotionally challenging jobs; I don't know how you can do it.

No rain here, but my lazy 3 day weekend was very healing. No more shin pain! I got in 40 mins early and did some speed intervals on my 1 K loop. Came home for half an hour to help DH get the kids off to school, then went out again with DH for another 20-30 mins. We stopped to look at some office spaces for rent. I'm discovering that taking 5 to 10 min breaks really helps with the heat. If I break down a run into several 30 min segments with 5 to 10 min breaks, I might actually be able to get in more than 5 miles a day.

Off to the city meet my new accountant now. I'm getting ready to start a new business and it's really exciting--because it's going to be much more boring than running a dive shop. Boring is very attractive at this point in my life.

so what kind of new business or you going into Suzanne? The dive shop was alot of work. is it totally out of your hands now?

I leave soon for work. Probably should plan some extra time because the roads are wet, and deep water in places so I need to go slow.

Wow, you guys who run so much and do these insane races are very inspiring!

I'm happy for now to just do my treadmillin'. I do 3 miles in 50 minutes at an average of 3.5 incline, and that's a workout for me! That's my "day off" workout, because the gym in my building is free! On my 5-day work week, I walk to and from work (40 minutes each way) for a total of 400 minutes per week + 100 on the TM = 500 minutes. That's not too shabby, right?

Right?

CanadaBoy, you are doing great. It is important to move and be active. I didn't start by doing anything more then the treadmill and walking around my neighborhood.

CanadaBoy - and you are doing great. Maybe we'll have the pleasure of reading some race adventures from you in the near future.

Today I went to the gym and did light weights with abs. Then I ran 45 minutes on the dreadmill. The weather was pretty nasty with rain and temperatures in the 40's. I started at 9 minutes per mile pace and went down to 8:30 as the run progressed. Watching Fox News helped pass the time. Tomorrow looks to be nicer.

Pilates, weights this morning and run tonight. Hoping to do around 6 miles. I am wondering how the trail will be because I am sure the creek went over the banks. I am sure there will be alot of tree limbs and mud but it should all recede today I hope. It is paved bit through the woods and the creek runs the length of the trail from up here all the way into DC.

45 minutes on a dreadmill feels like hours to me. Time goes so slow. When I am outside the miles fly by. I see no chance of dreadmill running this week because the rain is over till Sunday.

Treddy running can get boring, so I try to mix it up by using the workouts I have downloaded on my iPod or by doing things like changing the speed or incline every few minutes----that helps to break things up somewhat.

Hope you have a good run, Deb.

Welcome CanadaBoy! WTG on all the walking, especially to and from work! What part of the Toronto area are you from? DH grew up in Bolton. My first race was the FedEx 5K a few summers ago. It was 33C, 90% humidity, the smog was terrible, and I had spent the entire day previous to the 7:30 PM starting time at Ontario Place with my kids.

Debbie, hope you don't encounter too much mud and debri! We still have the dive shop, the sale is taking forever to process as it's extremely complicated and involves the sale of two corporations, plus financing 50% for one year, and a whole bunch of other stuff I do not even understand. In the meantime, DH has been working in computers for the last 3 years since we moved back to civilization. It's what he did in Canada and he moved to Mexico to get away from it....but there is a serious lack of people with his level of expertise. Anyway, I want to open an internet cafe with phone, fax, and copy services. In this entire town there is no place to send a fax or make a copy. There is only one small internet cafe and the demand is huge. Plus DH can have a repair center somewhere besides our bedroom. All the wires drive me insane. One of these days I'll post a photo of our work station.

Dean, TV is about the only thing that can keep me on the dreddy for that long. Hope your weather improves.

Got in almost 30 mins of running before I had to take a break and take the kids to school, then I got detained by some business calls. Now it may be too hot but I'm headint back out with the goal of another 20 to 30 mins.

Suzeanne---that new business sounds awesome!!! I hope it does very well.

I did not run last night---after work, I went to see my hairdresser and spent 3 hours getting colored, foiled and cut and now I am GORGEOUS!!!! My hair was just too long (and i have loads of it---very thick), so she took off about 5 inches and it is just at my shoulders now----LOVE IT!!!

I will run tonight. Right now I am off to the nail place to get my nails and toes done.

Tate, you deserve a day of beauty or two!!!!! Last time I had my toes done it hurt because my toes always seem to be bruised at the nails. Not so sure I will get another pedicure for a while.

Suzanne, sounds like a great idea for a business. If there is a need it should do great!!

I ran 5 slow miles. I did in an hour and it was not easy. My legs felt very stiff from yesterdays weights and run. I just trudged along in slow mode. At least I got a workout in.

My day is free now. No gym. No more working out. I do have a house that needs cleaning but......

I ran 48 minutes yesterday in the trail leading to farm country. The weather was perfect with temps in the late 60's and a lot of sun.

Tate, I bet you look awesome! It's nice to take off some time for yourself!

Debbie, my one concession to beauty is my toenails. I've found a few brands that last for up to 3 weeks w/very little chipping unless I swim a lot. Certain shades of pink don't show the wear and tear and stay looking nice for a long time. Good job on hanging in there for 5 miles despite being sore.

Where's Dr Jen been?

DH and I got in about an hour this morning. We ran down to the 1K loop (about 1K from our house) that has lots of wind and shade. Ran around twice, back to the house for water and a cool down break. I stood in front of a fan in front of the air conditioner for a minute, then back to the 1K loop for a few more laps of speed work. We were doing sprints down the shady side, about 0.5K at a 7:30 pace (or at least DH was doing 7:30, I was probably lagging a bit at 7:45). Then we jogged slowly back home. It was a good work out and I can feel it now.

Afterward we went to look at the office space I want to rent. It will be perfect. This is why I need to get the computer business at least partially removed from my home:

DH working on the divider between the sleeping area and the office area of our bedroom because there is no room on the desk.

The Desk, notice my lap top sitting in front of DH's PC monitor. We have to switch places and take turns. That's Debbie on my monitor!

Right now I even have a hard drive in my freezer.

It's a computer geek trick when all else fails. You freeze the hard drive for a few days, then pop it into a portable hard drive case and cross all fingers and toes that you can download the data before it totally gives out. Can't remember why it works. DH has had a lot of success with the freezer method, and it beats the heck out of sending them to the US for extremely expensive data recovery fees (in the thousands of dollars range). It's amazing how many people do not regularly back up their data.

Wow, great Spanish. Me mandas la foto por correo electronico y se la muestro aca. How did you post the Halloween photo of your family? I use Picturetrail dot com. You upload photos, then click on Image URLs, they give you the URL in a variety of formats. Copy the "Forum [IMG] format" URL and paste it directly into your post here. You can use Picturetrail for 2 weeks for free. I have a paid account that costs $20/year and it's much easier to send a link to the entire family rather than sending them all the individual photos.

Today is Teacher's Day so no school. DH and I were peacefully sleeping in late when suddenly a cat jumped up on my side of the bed (no cats allowed in the bed when we are sleeping). The cat started to lose his balance before I could push him off, so he dug into the back of my leg with his claws. I was pretty POed and rolled out of bed and kicked DS who was laying on the floor next to the bed waiting for us to wake up. Normally I don't kick my cats or my kids. Not a nice way to wake up--I had no idea DS was there. New family rule, no coming into Mommy and Daddy's room with the cats if we are not awake. Guess I'll go running after all.

Well, I still have to take a pic of my hair----I did my hair this morning and it does not look nearly as good as when my stylist did it----why can't I do it like she did? It was all nice and straight and shiny----I cannot control the waves and it just does not look as "polished"---oh well!!

Anyway, I get to play raquetball tonight---yipppeeeeeee!
