Me and the partner just did the 35 mins toning section from CardioCallanetics. It's a really good quick fix when done on its own. We followed it with half an hour of Yoga. I need some extra stomach work so I'm going to do Quick Callanetics Stomach before bed.

Eat clean and on plan. What we eat is HIGHLY relevant to effective fat burning. Without proper nutrition, you aren't going to see the results you hope for. As for thigh/leg/butt toning, you really can't go wrong with Callanetics. It's what brought me out "from hiding" with thighs I'd been ashamed of for YEARS. Callanetics is the perfect exercise for longer, lean, but strong thighs. ![]()

I also haven't exercised since Friday, except for 2 walk/hikes with the kids. Today I just finished 10 in 10. I watched most of Super Callanetics, and think I might try working it in once a week to keep me motivated and keep things fresh.

Evolution arrived this afternoon, I'll take a good look at it tomorrow, the reports here say it's easier to understand than the Sth African DVDs, I did work thru about 3/4 of the first SA one the other day, my very first try of Callentics, I'm a raw beginner but I love it!

"You can also do the pelvic exercises standing. This is how I get my 'dodgy knees' students to do them. They are also a great workout for the thighs, so I often teach them to a full class. Stand at barre/support with your feet hip width apart (measure from hip bones not high wide you think your hips are). Engage the pelvic floor or tighten the base of the behind and stretch up. Then bend your legs aligning your knees in the middle of your feet and sit back keeping your shoulders over your hips. Your back is relaxed and long. Now start your rotations as is instructed on the DVD. TIPS: Stay stretched up out of pelvis, don't allow yourself to sink down as this puts extra pressure on your knees. Only lower your pelvis enough so that your knees don't hurt. The deeper you bend the knees the deeper you'll be working your thighs. As your thighs become stronger you'll feel less pain in the knees. Don't allow your back to arch when you rotate to the side - allow your behind in slide smoothly across. When you curl to the front focus on really stretching up through the spine to intensify and again, to take weight of legs." Posted by Sandra Hanna, April 2008 |

I found an old Callan book - "Callanetics Countdown". What a great find! It illustrates all the exercises in 5 phases - each phase progressively more advanced. What's great about it is, since I am just starting, I'm having difficulty with the Hips - Behind - Thigh exercises. Now I can see the easier versions and will be using these initially. |

Hi Gang,
No Callan since last week but I have been using all the muscles in my body (or so it seems) pullling plaster & sheetrock off the kitchen walls and tearing out cabinets. Hope to get an hour in tonight. ~B |

I would think about 300 calories. There have been lots of studies done on Pilates and I imagine Calanetics burns a similar amount of calories.
"The researchers found that, on average, a person weighing 75 kilograms (or 165 pounds) burns 480 calories per hour from an advanced workout, 390 calories per hour from an intermediate routine, and 276 calories for every hour of a basic Pilates workout." |

Ben - congrats on starting your study for teaching!
Noreen - great idea making a website! I'm jealous of both of you - being so far along in your practice that you can instruct! Way to go! |
