I have noticed that I get better results doing Callan 3 x a week with a day in between. I was doing it every night and results slowed but with 3 x a week i see more pulling in and shaping.

lol...........that routine is giving my body a break. When I exercise, I can't stop. I have a 'routine' that I have to do.... and it's called ocd, lol! Honestly.... I'm trying to really understand that I need to back off, and that my body will actually give me the results I am aiming for...... but somehow I've wired my brain to think that what I am doing isn't enough, or I'd be where I wanted to be by now. So duh me, obviously the overkill approach isn't working. Is it really true, that if I only do callanetics 3-4x a week, and some moderate cardio 4x a week... it will work? *hides from the obvious* It's like that whole thing of lifting weights too - I know it's good for us, and our bones, but I can't wrap my head around *not* getting bigger. I've lifted light weights for a week, and I swear, I could see my arms growing. I hated it, I stopped. I wish I could just do it, and not think about it. I need to learn to work with my body, not against it. Where can I learn this? lol!!! |

One more hour of Evolution complete! This was a tough one. My muscles were still sore from Sunday. But I hung in there and worked through it!

your upper body looks way better in my eyes then this lady. There's always a point where you can over develop the arms and then the look is too masuline and doesn't match or blend with the long lean muscles through the torso and lower body that we create with Callanetics. It's creating that perfect balance - defined upper arms without bulk; and judging from your pic you seem to have it right now. When I first started Callanetics, back in 1987, I never bothered with the arm exercise I thought it pointless as there weren't any weights involved and I had seriously skinny arms. So I'd do a separate upper body workout using quite heavy weights. The result was quite a freaky look as the rest of my body was long and lean and then I had these bulky arms, it just didn't work. So I added Callanetics arms and reduced the weights to very light 1kg dumbells. A much better look in my eyes and my friends. Sandrax |

Ab exercises are so tough
Hi,
The Callanetics 10/10 and SC ab exercises are so hard for me. So what I think I will do is try to do them in small increments to build up ab strength. I have a bulging disc in my neck so the neck strain is also an issue. I thought my abs were pretty strong before trying Callanetics!!! What have you all done to increase abdominal strength and work up to the 100 pulses? Cindy |

I've been thinking about what everyone said about taking days off. I'm not consistent in doing Callanetics every day as I previously stated (didn't mean to exaggerate, though it's my goal to do those things) so last night I didn't do any Callan at all. I'm a bit achy today.

Sing sing oh happy day my other half's mother has left the building LOL! I am soooo looking forward to 10 in 10 tonight. Also going kayaking and canoeing this weekend so I will be well stretched and exercised.
Hey, did we ever set up the sight so we could get our forms critiqued? I'm really interested in this idea...I could use a little help myself. Apparently no where in VA does anybody teach Callanetics ![]() |

sore neck and abs
Quote:
As Ben said the first ab exercise in Evolution and also in SuperC is great for people with back or neck issues. Building up your reps as you mentioned is a good way to go in the beginning. You can also place your hands behind your head and neck and allow your head to sink heavily in to them. MAke sure you don't allow your elbows to point forward as you would then be tugging your head forward creating more strain. Another thing you can do is place a firm cushion/pillow under your mid back to keep you rounded up. This helps to keep the strain off the neck. The ab exercises also strengthen the supporting neck muscles so this will improve in a while. Also, as your abs strengthen you will find it easier to stay rounded up and place less strain on the neck and head. Breathe deeply to help you relax and always try to do a couple more pulses then you think you can. Take a breather when you need to then get back in to position. Callanetics ab exercises work very deeply because you want to create the movement from the abs not the back or shoulders or chin or head/neck. So, round up in to your best position - take a deep breath - relax on the exhale and then start to pulse keeping your focus on the movement coming from right under the ribcage. Reeeeelaaaxing your shoulders and neck - in fact the entire body. ![]() Good luck Sandrax |
