I guess it's been a few weeks now. My stomach is really starting to pull in nicely. I keep finding it hard to get motivated to do a full class so I tend to do different bits throughout the day. I do the hips and behind exercises when I'm watching TV and I don't use the DVD for that anymore. But for the stomach I always use the DVD as it's only 20 minutes and it makes me do the exercises properly without rushing them. It's working really well for me.

My legs

Hey y'all,

These are my legs after 11 hours of Callanetics.

As you can see, I have some hangy skin on the inner thighs, but I am just thrilled to see my legs so muscular.

Now, if my tummy would follow suit!!

Hi All!!

Finally made it back to Callanetics and a week and a half hiatus.

1 hour of 10/10 done tonight, which brings my total to 12, however, like I said, it's been a week and a half, so I may have to start over. In fact, it even wasn't a full hour because I had to skip some of the leg exercises and both pelvic exercises.

I've somehow managed to get two stress fractures in my left foot.

And since I told the Dr that I was still going to walk my dog every morning, and do my Callanetics as much as I can, he insisted on putting a regular cast on it.

I'm actually surprised I got through any of it since I really got tickled and the giggles when Callan says your legs are like feathers and I'm staring at this "highliter yellow" monstrosity that weighs 5 lbs hanging from my leg. And then again during the hip one where she says it may feel like your leg is nailed to the floor.

Oh well, I'll do what I can even though I have to modify some. It's going to be a long three weeks!!

Connie

Hi everyone! I have been so impressed with everyone's results. I have the 10 in 10 tape, but my question is- Can you do the routine intermittently throughout the morning? For example do the warm up routine, 1/2 hour later do the ab. routine etc. until finished? Will you get similar results or is it better to do the entire workout at once? Hope that makes sense. I plan to read this entire thread and this may be answered, but for now I hope someone doesn't mind answering! TIA

Hi all!

I'm ready to purchase a Callanetics DVD next week and was wondering which one you would recommend to a newbie? There are so many, I wasn't sure where to start.

I have the book 10 in 10, but I'd like to see the exercise techniques being done, not in pictures. Any help would be appreciated.

Hiya Ladybugg!
A good place to starte would be Beginning Callanetics or 10/10 (10 years yonger in 10 hours, my student Matt started Beginning Callanetics on his days off from our private class)
If you think you are ready and have a good understanding of the exercises then 10/10, if not invest in Beginning Callanetics, Callan walks you thro the 1 hour program in 30 mins, targeted for beginners.

J4Christ, yup you can break up the workout to suit you, some people do 5-10mins when the get the chance until the full routine is finished.
I don't think there is a proper way of doing the workout(when you start out), just do what suits you until you feel ready to take on the full hour.

Exactly! I do bits and pieces throughout the day. I do some in the morning, some at work, some when watching TV. It works for me. It is worth trying to do a full class a couple of times a week though as the exercises are designed to flow from one to another. If you're strugling for time then you can try the AM/PM Callanetics DVD. It's 20 mins in the morning and 20 mins in the evening.

Ben, have you taken a picture of your abs yet? I know you've been working hard.

Yes I have been taking pics for the last few weeks. I'm not going to post them just yet but I will soon. There's a huge difference but I still have a lot of work to do. I'm quite impressed with myself!

Hey Noreen,

This sounds interesting, but in light of my previous question (and the answers I got), we should include warm-ups with each of these mini-sessions, right?

Thanks!

I encourage everyone to invest in some body fat calipers. I ordered mine when I first began BFFM in May of 2006. They're Accumeasure Body Fat Calipers, digital.

When I weighed less than I do now back in June of 2006, my body fat was at 23%.

I'm now at 20% body fat, and I weigh more now than I did then.

Body composition -- the way we look, the amount of lean body mass we have -- is far more important than a meaningless number on a scale that can't tell the difference between muscle and fat.

KWIM?

(Good visual, Marsha!)

Buy some calipers.

Rejoice in your progress.

Love it!!!

It's funny how attached we can be to the scale. When I first started dropping weight I just loved watching my weight drop each day but it wasn't until later that I realised that I had absolutely no muscle tone and my butt had dropped to my knees - ok, I'm exaggerating but it certainly felt that way. From behind I looked dreadful in trousers, as though my butt had been sliced off. As I started to workout the scale climbed and I looked heaps better but I still hated seeing the change on the scale.

"Look into my eyes, not around my eyes but in to my eyes - if you are eating correctly and exercising regulary you do not need the scales - the scale not your friend but can do weird and wacky things with your brain. Now when I click my fingers you are back - go forth and enjoy your next workout"

Hi Connie,

I'm a bit concerned about you working out with the cast on your foot.
With your legs raised for the abs - wouldn't you be feeling the impact on your left hip??

I have to tell you that if a student came to my class with a cast on I wouldn't let them join in the class until the cast was removed.

I would reallly recommend you rest until you are 'cast free'. When you start back your body will respond very quickly so don't worry about having to start all over again.

I hate to bring you this advise but working out with this extra weight on your foot is not a good thing for you in the long term.
