and here all I see is fatness!!
Ran 4.5 plus miles. could have done the last half mile but I wanted to be done and get ready for work. It was nice temp for running. Around 40 degrees with occasional wind. I ran slow and easy and it was not with much effort. Off to work in a few! |

Very nice Deb, I'd date you (if I was a guy or gay lol)
I did a combo jog/walk this morning 3.7 miles, and I'm going to try to get some extra miles in this week before I leave on vacation Thursday. I am going to have to depend on a hotel gym for my walks, unless I can get Nick to go hiking with me in Grand Canyon. We're going to see the eye sore walk-way. lol Should be cool. |

I am not going to be around much.....just received word my brother committed suicide last night. I have to help my sister in law to make arrangements----the funeral will probably be going to South Dakota because that is where my brother called home. I do not know when I will be leaving or when I will be back.
I want to go for a run, but I am so exhausted right now---it was a long night----may have to settle for a walk or something..... I don't know... just can't even think straight right now. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks so much everyone for your thoughts and prayers. I am leaving tomorrow for South Dakota and will not be back until Tuesday. Someone else will have to start the new thread on Monday. I am hanging in there---I did not run yesterday but I am determined to get out there today, even if I walk more than I run. I know I will feel better as time goes on. Death is a part of life, but it doesn't make it suck any less when it happens. Hugs, guys.

I managed to get out and run----4.5 miles----my pace was all over the place, can't say I was very focused, but my gosh did it feel good to jut get out there----running is so healing and freeing for me----what a blessing it is. Thanks again for all of your kind words and prayers. I have had sooooooooo many people---fellow students, co-workers and friends who have been very kind and offered me a great deal of comfort---I am in good hands and grateful for the outpouring of love and support I have felt these past few days. I am truly blessed (still sad, of course, but blessed.

glad you could run. sometimes it is hard to have the energy to do anything when you are grieving. I am also happy to hear you have such wonderful support around you at this terribly difficulty time. Death is part of life but it is also painfully sad when it happens.

will be missing you Tate.
way to go Micki. I knew jogging would come at some point. Alot of us started as walkers. I did the track last night and it wasn't easy but it wasn't really hard either. The 1600 and 2 800 repeats were ate Threshold pace instead of Interval pace so slower. Well guess what we were running closer to interval pace. The 200s at interval pace were done way under. We did 4 200s with 200 recovery after each one. I am off to the eye doctors with my son. Probably no workouts today. Tomorrow night is the Firebird Mile track race. I will go run my mile. Not sure it would be any faster then my 8:40 interval pace but I will run the fastest I can manage. |

Tate, I'm so sorry about your brother. My late husband committed suicide; it's probably the hardest loss that any family can experience. We are having the last cool snap of the year and with my great luck, Monday I woke up with a throat infection that's been going around. Got in a slow 3 yesterday, hoped for 10 today but ended up doing a very slow 4 miles. Just dragging myself along. Better than nothing! Last edited by Suzanne : 04-16-2008 at 07:36 AM. |

Today I ran my speed workout in my favorite park. After warming up for 21 minutes, I ran the 2 hard miles in 14:17 (7:08 pace). I got to the first mile in 7:10 and thought I might be slowing down on the way back due to pollen. To my pleasant suprise, I found I sped up a little. It looks like my strategy to bike Monday (the day after my long run) and take off yesterday had me rested for today.
Time to head to work. Dean |

Hi Richelle. You can do it but start out slowly and run 3-4 days a week and slowly add miles. You don't want to get hurt and not be able to run at all!

I have one mile track race tonight. My goal is 8:30. That would beat last year by 7 seconds I think. Honestly when it is a mile you don't have alot of room to get faster. I tend to go too fast the first lap. I want to try and get faster each lap instead. Who knows what will be. It really isn't important but I want to do it.

Deb - Good luck in your mile race.
Bill - Nice run with a fast 5 in the middle. Kelly - Running into the wind is great for pushing thus making you stronger. I do love the push from tail winds. Richelle - You have a lot of time for a gradual build up to 10 miles. I think you will get there before your birthday. Today I hit the gym for some light and easy working out. Then I ran 48 minutes in the trails and felt great. It was in the latter 70's and sunny. This weather is really motivating. Dean

I did the Firebird Mile Track Race tonight. We are joined by the Firebirds a track club for kids. Boy can some of those kids go fast. I got there and did a mile warm up and then sat way too long. I was in the 3rd heat and there was a kids run before all that. The 89 year old guy who comes to all these mile races was there and they had him start with the kids and ran the clock until he finished. He is inspiring even though he pretty much walks now.
I did my first 400 too fast. What else is new. My first 800 was right on for a 8 minute mile. I finished in 8:11 I think. I stopped right before the finish because I thought I was done once I went into the chute but low and behold I had a good 3 more feet to go. I really pushed hard the last 100 meters. When I was done my calves were cramping terribly. I also had a horrible case of track cough. The coach said we needed to do a cool down so we did .75 mile because we wanted to watch the last heat. The guy who won did it in 4:51 I think. I will have to check the times once posted. Regardless of my exact time I did my best. I went out too fast and friend passed me the last lap. Another started even faster and ended up right behind me. We are all the same age. I wish I could control my first lap and do it slower. I didn't feel that fast but I saw the time on the clock was under 2 minutes and I knew I was going to have trouble. My husband thought my laps were pretty even. I really controlled my breathing until the last 100 meters. I also did Pilates and upper body work out today and had a pretty hard track work out 2 days ago so maybe I can eventually break the 8 minute mile mark but who knows. Next track race is in the summer. Oh and the temps were in the 70s. It was really nice out. |
