Thanks Bill! The kicker is I am getting sick and my throat was burning the whole race.
I have 12 mile point to point tomorrow. We are running into DC which is always nice. Weather will be beautiful. Off to check for race results to see what they gave me for time since I stopped just short of the finish line. My husband says 8:10 or 11 we will see. |

Deb - Excellent job in your mile race! Congrats on the PR!!
![]() Today I ran 50 minutes in trails. It was in the mid 80's which was kind of warm, but it is better than the cold. Dean |

even faster time when I checked results online. 8:06.79. I am super happy with that. I think my fastest was in the 8:26 range last summer.

I'm kind of sorry I'm not going to Boston this weekend. The womens olympic marathon trials on Sunday and the weather for the Monday marathon looks real good. I guess I'll have to requalify.

Bill you must be kidding. I know you are! Anyhow my body isn't going to marathon train this year. I don't think my back could hold up to over 40 miles a week. I am going to stay under that this next training period. I am only doing 4 days a week so hard to get enough miles but better for my body in the long run and I want to keep running as long as I can. I don't want to be out of commission again as I was in the fall.
I know tons of people running Boston and they are all plenty faster then me. I did a lousy mile and I should have broken 8 minutes. I did my best and it was my fastest and I have hopes to get under 8 minutes some time in the future. For now I have a 10 K next week and want to come in around 9 minute pace but who knows. I am off to run my long run. It will be last point to point into DC for a long time and the last time I run with alot of my friends because they will move in to marathon training and I will be in the half training. |

runners.Slowly making my way to the dive shop, arrived yesterday in the capitol for power shopping in the capitol with Brianna and nanny in tow. Thank goodness my nanny/housekeeper is willing to travel. I haven't been running in two days, since my last lousy 4 miles, as I wait for my sore throat to clear up. Today is the first day I've woken up feeling truly human. Hoping to get in a zippy (or at least not dragging) 3 miles along the malecon. And I'm looking forward to 8 days of dirt roads near the dive shop. It's a beautiful place to run. Hope everyone is as well as can be expected. Special hugs for Tate and her family. Will catch up tonight when we get to Xcalak, the end of the road to nowhere.

Suzanne,
I remember the roads around there being tough to drive on. Not nescessarily the coastal road but the roads going inland. I was probably one of the few tourists who drove to Chitzanitza (sp). I remember 3 hours of tough driving. The forests came right down to the edge of the road and there were no breaks or views whatsoever except for the occassional village. |

Hope you feel better Suzanne. My cold started with a sore throat but it is day three and getting better. I ran fine. A friend who is a doctor said I was wheezing but I felt fine.
Did the point to point and it really only 11.2 miles. My overall pace was 10:11 so was going way too fast. I ran the first half with my pace group. We did 6 miles in one hour so that as fast for a long run and the second half I ran with two faster guys because no one from group wanted to go into DC. Some other friends were further behind so I met up with them at Union Station for a bagel and took the Metro back with them. I can't believe how strong I felt. It is great!!!!! The weather is super. Sunny, 80 and beautiful. Changing tomorrow though. |

Debbie,
If you can run a 10k at a 9 minute pace, you could probably go into marathon training, not saying you should, and have a good chance in running a 4:30 marathon. You need a 4:05:59 to qualify and that's a time that can be whittled down to by you 3rd, maybe second marathon. It took me two years to go from a 4:06 first to a 3:34 on my third. |

I did 7 miles today with 3 x1 mile repeats on a trail uphill. The elevation gain was around 300 feet. Not terribly pitched and there were some flats and short downhills but it's a good workout and it's just the kind of terrain I should be running instead of walking on these long runs. The actual uphill was .98 miles according to my Garmin.
I've prepped my garden over the last 3 days and I'm getting ready to plant a bunch of veggies and herbs. Last edited by westside : 04-19-2008 at 03:43 PM. |

Hi Jen. I am not sure you heard but Tate's brother died.
Bill, your run sounded nice. I wish I liked to garden. Fresh veggies at my back door would be cool. I will not marathon train right now. I will focus on the half in September. I can always add miles to my workouts. I am just worried about the wear and tear on my bosy. My back is pretty precarious. In the mean time I am happy to run. I am happy to race what ever races I do. Yes I want to get better and I think I am pretty much wear I was last year. Maybe I can do better on next weeks race. It is a net downhill course. I never know how I will run. I know I did my last 10K in a 9:18 pace and there was a lot of hills. I think I can do better on this one. In the mean time I am sick and pray I get better by next Sunday. My workout will be pretty easy this week. I think Tuesday's track will be 3 miles at race pace with a mile warm up and cool down. I don't remember exactly. I have been doing 1600s at 8:44 so 9:00 is doable I think. I am looking forward to see how my running friends do in Boston. I know so many people doing it including a friend I work with and her husband. |

Jen -
![]() I've been offline a few days due to my old computer's network card failing. I decided to buy a Dell Laptop and spent a lot of today configuring and installing software. The great part is I switched to wireless and I'm writing while watching TV. Due to spending many hours with my new toy, I didn't get out until after 4 PM for my long run. I ran a nice 2 hours and 12 minutes with two Powerade breaks. It was nice with temperatures in the 60's and a little breeze. Hope everyone is well. Deb I'm happy you are feeling better. Suzanne I hope your throat isn't sore anymore. Dean

Heya runners...
I saw Sarah Hall run the 1500 meters today in 4:08.99 I cheered for her. It was cool. All of those elite runners are truly gorgeous beings. They are just picture perfect. No air-brushing, nothing. Just pure gorgeous physical bodies of motion! zzzzzzzzz I am sleepy. I haven't been running due to too much work. I'm also on a major diet 'cause it's just sad how fat I got. I don't even eat much, but going from my past running schedule to what I do now (almost nothing some weeks) the pounds just come on fast. I have come to realize that my metabolism is awful without exercise! talk to you all later! ![]() |

Just stay in condition Mr Speedy and you'll be ready for marathon training in the fall. I have faith that we will see you in Boston one of these days, Dean. You are a speedster!Deb, WTG on PR mile! Bummer about the sore throat, cold; hope you get over it quickly. Ditto Bill, I hope to see you qualified for Boston next year. You are incredibly fast for your size. I can only hope to get up to your pace level. Bill, when was the last time you were in the Yucatan? There is now a high speed toll hwy between Cancun and Chichen Itza (75 mph speed limit, most people exceed); it takes about an hour. The Mexican government has also almost completed a 4 lane and/or 2 lane expanded (super wide shoulder so you can move over and let speedsters pass or at least pull off the road in case of a breakdown rather than DIJ--Driving In Jungle) between Cancun and Chetumal. We have expanded 2 lane to within 60 kms of our dive shop and they even fixed the potholes for the first time in 5 years on that last stretch! We used to have contests to see who could drive the road and hit the least potholes [me, 11/13 trips w/o hitting a single pothole]. But the last 2 kms to "home" are dirt. But I do love life at the end of the road to nowhere. If we didn't have kids....we wouldn't run as fast and we'd still live here! Today's 4 mi run (my first here in a few mos) was so disappointing. My favorite dirt road is now so badly potholed with so many cobble stones from erosion that it's like an obstacle course. If I zoom in on my garmin track, that's exactly what it looks like...a zigzag. I used to love to run along the old, dirt coastal road when they graded it every year or two. Now it's an ankle breaker. Tomorrow I'll try to go south and see if it's any better. Now that the hwy is fixed, the small amount of traffic is coming so fast that I don't dare run along the hwy. Oh well, back to my loop in civilization in 7 days. Either that or power snorkeling out to the fringing reef and back. Also, today was the first time in a long time that I got so overheated, and drank so much so fast when I got home that I....regurgitated it all in the shower for lack of a better way to put it. Sorry if that is TMI. Learned my lesson. So much for speed work on hot, humid, windless days. Remember, small sips slowly and a few of those whatcha call 'em caps.....I actually have some in my purse left over from Austin and took one, waited 15 mins, then started sipping liquids and recovered well. Tate, you're in my thoughts every day. ![]() |
