CALLANETICS - Give us your ideas and suggestions!

Moderators: Can you make this a "sticky" for us??

Over on the "Callanetics Challenge" thread we have the most amazing group of people working hard on their bodies and getting great results from the Callanetics programs.

What new things would you like to see from Callanetics??
We have a couple of incredible Certified Callanetics Teachers on this forum. Lets share our ideas with them for new products.

I'll start it off:

I'd love a re-make of the original "10 Years Younger" DVD but updated with all the new CallaneticsEvolution concepts. Presented by our lovely Sandra.

Clearly explaining PF in lay man's term. I had hard a time understanding it in Callanetics Evolution.....

Ditto what Ben and Noreen have said, plus I'd like to see some type of counter that shows number of reps and/or hold count. We were told what to work up to on a few of the exercises in Evolution, but not all. I missed having the counter so I knew what I was working toward.

Oh yes I agree. Any new DVD must have the counter. It's so helpful.

Agree with Noreen too. I love the idea of having the Callanetics Concepts but all of them need to be explained in a more simple way.

I agree. There should be a good explanation and also how its supposed to feel and not supposed to feel? What are the wrong ways and right ways etc...

"Technical" production suggestions:

I would like to see little graphic arrows on the screen showing the direction of movement. If you can't tell what the instructor is saying, this could be very helpful. Some movements are very subtle.

Closed captioning, please!!! I'm hearing impaired in the voice frequencies, and the visual cues in Callanetics aren't always obvious.

Some sort of audible counter (I can hear noises okay) for exercises in which keeping proper, safe form keeps you from looking at the screen.

A book! Or some sort of compilation of hints and tips from this forum. Or downloadable monthly files? With all the duplication taken out? I don't know how difficult that would be, but my plan to copy and paste and print out the helpful information on this board since Agnes and Sandra joined, along with other knowledgeable people is so far behind!

Those are good suggestions, N. A little graphic in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen....! Yeah! And counters, for sure. The closed-captioning is a great suggestion and could be easily implemented.

I was thinking it would be great if Callan or maybe Sandra wrote a book that went along with the Evolution DVD. I have found the original 10/10 book invaluable in helping me understand the exercises and concepts of the program and think a companion book with the new techniques would be invaluable too. It could explain the concepts in greater detail and with more lay terms, like how we understand it better now thanks to Sandra, plus the different pulsing techniques, pictures and explanations of each exercise, etc. It would be like having all the great tips Sandra and Agnes have given us in one place. I would definitely buy a copy.

I second this suggestion and also would include the Quick Callanetics 20 minute workouts. Would love an updated version. Also more Cardio Callanetics since I love the new one. In general would love more new updated Callanetics since I'm enjoying Cardio Callanetics and Evolutions.

Most people have learned the techniques from the book and the DVD's. Give it a try.

Some way to explain the form better and ways to sub the form if you can't do it.
For example, I cannot do the leg and hipone and Sandra was kind enough to post a substitute exercise in the Callanetics thread. I would love to have all that info in one place.

My form is the problem!

I think all the above suggestions are great. I particularly miss the counter in Evolution, but i LOVE that there are 3 different levels, plus modifications given. Also love the 3 pulses being demonstrated. I would like a little more time between exercises (sometimes) to get into proper position. OH, I also love the "concepts" section - separately to review whenever you need to.

I don't know how cost effective this would be, but it would be nice to see a modified, shortened (20 mins?) workout for kids, perhaps done by kids. I'm thinking of my 2 boys specifically, who are not flexible and don't seem to have the posture that I learned as a little girl through dance and gymnastics classes. Having these core muscles strengthened and stretched would be so good for them, but I can't expect to do the entire workout, particularly when it's so "girlie"! Presented more like exercises in PE class would be great, even with the soft music behind. I'm thinking tween ages. Benjamin - maybe this has your name on it!?

An updated 10 in 10 would also be great, with discussion of the ever confusing tightening of the PF versus tightening the behind, tipping the pelvis! Possibly also a discussion of adding in cardio?

I sometimes wish I had a short meditation to do at the end of Callanetics. I know Callen recommended them, and thinks of her exercises as meditations in motion. She included a few in her Fitness Forever book - it would be great to have an option for a meditation to do following the program.

The only other thing I can think of is including more of those before and after photos Callan put in her video. How motivating were they!!

"Callanetics For Kids" - What a great idea. I'm sure Sandra would have some good ideas for this.

So, we have a nice list of suggestions so far. How do these sound:

"Callanetics For Kids" DVD

"Callanetics For Men" DVD

"CallaneticsEvolution" -book including loads of advice and instructions etc.

An new version of "10/10" and the "Quick Callanetics" series.

Any new products must have a visible counter on the screen and closed captioning.
