My dear Callanetics Friends!

I have a question to you.

I have done 10 hours of Callanetics. But one problem is confused me.
I work hard every time and feeling shake during the train. And I am feeling that I am working good
But other days after train I don't feel any pain in muscles. Maybe a little.
Is it normal?
Is it sighn that I do something wrong?

Marisha, not to worry. This is typical, that one day you'll feel soreness afterward, and the next you'll feel fine. This is expected, and you're doing everything right.

Keep up the good work.

Susan, you may want to place a day of rest in there for your muscles to rest/recover. If you're overtraining and the muscles aren't at their fullest potential due to lack of rest/recovery, you're not getting as much bang for your buck, so to speak.

Those in between days you could try doing cardio or such, which is always needed anyway for extra fat burning. So if you back off a day, maybe do it 2 days Callan, one day cardio, then repeat? I've almost always placed a day in between my sessions of Callanetics.

And just one more note. Make sure that with each exercise, you're not allowing your mind to drift off, going through the reps purely my memory, momentum, or whatever. REALLY focus, mind AND body, on the muscle group that is being worked, paying STRICT attention to form. That's why I like to do Callan first thing in the morning, when the rest of the world is asleep. I totally concentrate on what I'm doing, constantly doing "checkpoints" with myself: Relax this, tighten that, straigthen this, bend that..... Form is so very crucial with any strength training workout.

I hope this helps just a little.

Rasmus, the muscles you want to work are the ones attached to the pelvic bone, they act like a hammock, holding in your pelvic organs. To try and isolate these muscles trying stopping and starting the flow of urine.
Once you have located the muscles simply tighten and relax them over and over, this is basically it. Here you'll see what muscles these are.

I have a question . . . can I do 10/10 skipping the hip/behind exercises? Or doing maybe 25 reps on the hip/behind? You see, I'm completely happy right now with my hip/behind but want to focus my waist, stomach & legs. I don't want to go backwards with my hip/behind so maybe doing 25 reps of these exercises when I do the 10/10 will keep them in check?

I'm up to 18 hours and can fit into items I wore 15 years ago. Yep, I kept them hoping one day I'd be able to fit back into them one day. My stomach still needs work.

I plan on posting pictures AGAIN after 20 hours. Can someone point me to a link or explain how you post pictures? I thought I was doing it right but it only came up as links to the pictures. I was trying to embed the actual picture in my message.

Snuckles, go to photobucket dot com and open an acct, if you don't already have one.

Once in, hit the upload tab to upload your pics from your PC to your Photobucket album/site.

Once uploaded, click onto the pic you just uploaded, and to the right you will see codes: share, direct, HTML, and image.

Click the IMAGE code, and it will throw a little yellow message up saying "copied."

Go to your reply post on the LCF thread, right click, hit paste, and your IMG code will be copied to the thread.

Photobucket also allows you to edit/resize photos, if they appear too large for your liking.

Hope this helps.

I could see and feel muscle development clearly after the 2nd class (I was really slacking on any kind of weight training before then, however, so I was a couch potato who ran after kids and walked for exercise.

In the past 2 weeks (hours 4-8) I've lost 2 inches off my waist, 2 off my hips, .5 off my upper thigh and some other places, too, that I can't recall off the top of my head. However, I am dieting pretty strictly, too. I've also lost about 6 pounds and it could be smidge more if the scale is hiding a small muscle gain.

I stil have some weight to lose although I'm not sure if it's about 20 or about 30, because I'm more after being a certain size. It's hard for me to judge my body fat because all the scale and measurement calculators give me wildly varying results!
3 Diva - thanks so much for this info. I'm going to get my measuring tape out this week and see if anything has shrunk.

Quote:
Hi SummerSue - I'm even more overweight than you and have seen results (wearing pants that were too tight a few weeks ago). I've done maybe 10 hours so far (since the end of March). Am low carbing but really haven't lost any poundage to speak of (perimeno...)

My posture has improved, I can feel tight ab muscles underneath all the flab. I think when you're quite overweight the exercises are much tougher - I especially feel it in my legs and butt... as we have to lift our legs and my legs are much heavier - so my muscles have to work that much harder. So I take breathers.
LowCarbLulu - thanks to you too for your experience. I'm waiting for that pants size to go down, too. I should be focusing on all the positives you've noted in your post - not just my size.

Twyla - Thanks so much for this advice. I think you are right, because while I am feeling the muscles tightening, I'm still seeing my fat and wondering when it will go away. Which means more cardio, right?

I also do Callan in the morning, but I wait until I get both boys off to school, I put the dog outside and refuse to answer the phone so I can concentrate and "be alone." But, I do still find myself not always totally focusing - you are right. And I used to weight train substantially - I know about putting your mind into your muscle and form, but I guess I'm still lazy (physically and mentally!). This is also good advice.

Last night I was combing through the March thread to copy off advice on form, etc. and saw your post that said you started Callanetics at 45. Well, I turned 45 this year and was so inspired by you. I know you hear this alot, but it is certainly true from me. You look terrific and so happy and healthy - you really are inspiring!

I think I had a minor toddler moment - expecting 6 months worth of results after 2 weeks worth of work! Thank you all for your comments and encouragement!

Completing my 33rd hour today. I have not been able to Callan for 3 days, and I missed it.

Get this! I saw my sister over the weekend. We have not see one another since the Monday after Easter. She was shocked at my "weight loss". The thing is, I am not sure I have lost a pound. I do low carb, but I stay away from the scales. Any way, I give Callan the credit for my new shape!

Thanks Twyla, I use snapfish and have my photos loaded. Once up loaded I right clicked on my up loaded photo and copied the address out of the properties which is basically a URL. But when I added the URL to my message (inserting it as an image) it showed up as a link to the pictures instead of embedding the pictures.

Ah, ha! I think I just figured it out. I was taking the URL from the picture while in slideshow presentation, I need to get the actual URL and not the rendered URL.

Yesterday I completed my FIRST HOUR of 10/10 !! :)

HI EVERYONE!!
First I just want to say THANKS to WatchMeShrink for starting this awesome thread and to Everyone for all of your informative & helpful posts - I have already learned SO MUCH from ALL of you!

I turn 45 on May 30 and really want to get myself back into good shape ever since I kinda "let myself go" after my journey through ovarian cancer/chemo/surgery/DVT/PE/ascites/lymphedema from age 41 to present.

I lost 50 lbs during all of that (2005-2007) and had fun gaining it all back (eating all the wrong things due to my newly aquired post-chemo sweet-tooth!) but the fun stopped when I actually exceeded my original weight by a good 20 lbs!

So after failing on a couple of other weight loss plans - I started Atkins Induction on 3/24 - I've lost 12 lbs and have 18 more to go!
(I want to be 10 lbs lighter than my original pre-cancer weight)

I'm very excited about this zero impact style of exercise Callanetics as I have been super frustrated with my old exercise DVD's (such as The Firm) that I simply cannot do anymore or keep up with due to so many restrictions on my body due to multiple surgeries and the lymphedema that I'm stuck with.

YES! Yesterday I completed my FIRST HOUR of 10/10 + 20 minutes on the elliptical !!

I re-watched the 1st half of 10/10 while on the elliptical and will watch the 2nd half this morning as it was hard to see if I was doing things correctly or not - I don't feel any soreness today so I'm going to do it again today (since I'm sure my "form" was off).

But I guess going forward, it's best to do Callanetics every other day? My work-out plan follows, would love to get some input from WatchMeShrink and anyone else that cares to comment! (I'm working up to 40 min of cardio per day, I have been doing 20 min and this week moving up to 25 min)

M: 25 min elliptical + 10/10 Callanetics

T: 25 min elliptical + Cory Everson's Get Hard Arms

W: 25 min elliptical + 10/10 Callanetics

R: 25 min elliptical + Cory Everson's Get Hard Arms

F: 25 min elliptical + 10/10 Callanetics

S: 25 min elliptical + Cory Everson's Get Hard Arms

S: 25 min elliptical + Pilates/Yoga

Thanks!!

XO,
HB

HB, I wish you well in your fitness endeavors, esp having gone through some tough times behind you. You have a wonderful, positive, go-get-em attitude, and that alone spells success.

As for your stated schedule, it looks like a great plan! Go for it. Looks perfectly balanced, and it offers muscle recovery, and you're still getting a balance/mix of other beneficial fat-burning workouts.

Glad to have you on board, and we share in all your joys and successes!

Hummingbird,

Congrats on your health recovery! You are an inspiration.

However, I am concerned that you do not have a rest day. I recommend you take one day off a week. At mimimum, I recommend you not do the elliptical on your pilates/yoga day.
