Another Newbie

I'm in for the April Callanetics Challenge.

Hope all of this wonderful motivation and magic rubs off on me too.

I will be doing Callanetics every other day. I will mix in weight training and cardio.

I'm also waiting for "Evolutions" to come and will mix it with the other Callans I have.

Good luck to all!!!

I don't have fibro - must have confused me with someone else. But I do have, despite losing nearly 100 lbs this year - a serious lack of flexibility. I am confident it will get better though!

Nope! The other night i did Super C about 2 hours before bedtime, slept like a baby! I like to do Callanetics in the morning when Maiya goes down for her nap, and it gives me a burst of energy!

I don't have the Evolution video only 10 in 10. I always do it at night because it is so relaxing. I usually do it around 11 or 12 and I am sleepy shortly after.

So, as you exercise always keep the base of the behind tight, tight, tight. Try to think that you are squeezing the muscles between the sit bones to draw them (sit bones) closer together. Callan says in 10/10 to tighten the behind and would keep reiterating this. Basically, she was getting us to keep our PF activated.

If I have a student who is confused by this (remember we use these muscles subconciously) I tell them to think that they are holding in a bowel motion and urine at the same time.

When you do this try to keep the upper part of the behind and lower back relaxed. This becomes easier as your PF strengthens. Most important of all don't stress about it. Trust your natural body instincts...it does become easier.

As you work with the PF more your results accelerate and then look out world!!!!

Sandra, the analogy of holding in the urine and bowl motion really helped me understand engaging the pelvic floor. I was just concentrating on like I was holding in urine, so thanks. I'm going to be doing 10/10 in a little bit (did Evolution last night) and will practice that.

I saw this question in the March thread, but I don't know if it was ever answered. Is it okay to do 10 in 10 twice a day?

Up until now I have been doing Callan every other day and I alternated with Tae Bo and just silly dancing.
I'm trying now to do 5 days of Callan in a row and 5 days off - I try to do Tae Bo and dancing on most of those days as well.

It is definitely going to be a part of my weekly workouts.

Thanks Benjamin for directing Agnes and Sandra to us!

Thanks Twyla for all you do, you are truly an inspiration!

Good luck everyone and please keep posting pics they are awesome!

Great to meet you too Mary. I understand your fear of not wanting to let go of 10/10 - but your body will love varying the routines. Your results will accelerate big time if you keep changing the programs and how you work your body.

In my classes I teach a routine of exercises for a couple of weeks then I switch to another, and then another and on it goes. My students moan like crazy because they have just become comfortable with one program. But next time they come in they talk of how great their body feels and after a couple more hours comment on another body shape change. It's awesome They get inspired and motivated all over again.

The trick to continued body sculpting is to trick the muscles and create confusion. That's why in Evolution we added the different types of pulses so that you can vary these.

When you're ready you can then start pulsing with the pelvic floor (PF) and then the body will change again. Let me know when you are ready.

Sx

And are there people who have given good results by Callanetics only?
I am asking to know the best way of giving fast and good results

Hey Marisha,

Since becoming an instructor I have done nothing other than Callanetics to sculpt my body. I have to sell the program and my students have to know that I am in my best shape at my age (52) and that I don't do anything else.

I've tried most forms of exercise in the past but because of my body issues - scoliosis, hip problems, knee and neck issues (for horse riding accident) nothing worked for sculpting and caused me pain.

I'm in better shape now than when I was in my 20's (HUGE saddlebags, enormous butt) and no flexibility.

So in answer to your question - as long as you incorporate some cardio in to your workout sessions Callanetics covers everything.

I'm probably crazy but here's what I did today...

While at work, took 2 brisk 15 minute walks
After work, did 30 min jog/walk
After dinner, entire 10/10 workout

Think i might be a tad sore tomorrow.

This week, I have started WRITING DOWN my workouts!

Hi Sandra, did you say 52????? WOW, you look fantastic!! Plus all those health issues you mentioned. I'm 50 and now I really have no excuses (like "I'm getting too old to get in shape" ). This board is so motivating. Thanks for adding to it.
Kathy

P.S. 10/10 done this evening.

I almost exclusively do my Callanetics at night. Doesn't stop me from going to sleep (its usually very lated anyways). I am noticing more energy but it might be partly due to the sun actually shining once in a while here.

I found several Callanetics books at my local library "Callanetics for your back" "Callanetics Countdown" "Callanetics Fit Forever" in addition to the 10/10 book

Hi Benjamin,

Wow, where do I start? There are so many different exercises for the abs.
Of course you can intensify all by relaxing more in to the position. By keeping your PF tight and rounding in even more. Aso, pulse in a really reelaaaaxed manner - this alone works the abs deeper.

Can you let me know what program you are doing? What ab exercises do you do.

Thanks for the advice - i will try those things you said. They are pretty mind bogling though- the stretching out bit to the crown sounds tricky. However I am doing a workout today so we will see how it goes.

I am doing 10 times 10. I do not have evolution. However I have just bought the Future-Gym book by Pip Coory (do you know this) ; and am going to work on her stuff. As I understand it her stuff is evolved from callanetics/callanetics evolution.

Thanks for taking the time
Nola

Hi NOla,

Yes, I know Pip she used to teach Callanetics in Sydney. She's a lovely lady. The Future-gym exercises are from Callanetics with some variations. Her book will explain the lengthening out of the pelvic floor effectively for you.

I almost always do my Callanetics (when I workout by myself) right before I go to bed. Relaxes me. But then again, I find crosstitching relaxing, where others could throw the charts at the wall with frustration, so I may be a "little" weird.....Started April off with good ol' 10/10. Night all.
