Secret the way I understand it is that everything moves up so it is possible to get bigger then sink in to smaller.

Question:

I am doing 10/10 and I love it. (Still saving my pennies for Evolution).

Anyway, on the stomach exercises, I notice that I have some temporary nausea while doing them. When I relax my tummy, the nausea goes away.

I just wanted to know if this is common and not to worry, or if my form is so off and that's what's causing it?

Thank you!!

Hey Noreen,
That's good to know. In the 10/10 DVD Callan says her mom is 76, I didn't realize she was 80 in the Beginning DVD. I talked to her last night and she's been practicing the underarm tightener (the only one I've showed her so far). I told her that I had asked about her on here and told her about Sandra's response and she was very happy. I'll tell her about yours too. She'll love it. I think there's some she'll do okay on, the ones I'm unsure about are any that are on the floor, like the stomach and the hips and behind ones. I haven't viewed the Beginning tape in a long time (I only have that one on VHS) so I'll see what modifications there are. She can get down on the floor okay, but it's a devil getting back up! I think these exercises will really help her strength and flexibility.

How's the training going?
Kathy

SandraHanna - Thank you so much for guiding us as to Callan frequency and when to switch up to SC. I know I am a loooong way from Callan. I do complete 5 hours of 10/10 a week and take the weekend off. You are right about the body on that little break. When I return to Callan on Mondays, I am shocked at how much stronger I am since the Friday prior! It is like my body kept working while I was off! Thank you too for suggesting the push ups! I just started those, after seeing that Twyla does them. Two of you pros suggest it, so I know I am on the right track! Thank you so so much!

Hi All!

Just finished Evolution. Yesterday I was strong and things were getting easier, today I'm weak and things were hard! But, still, I made it through and tried to do as many pulses as possible (while keeping my peak form). Still not able to hold those pelvic contractions though.

I hope this is true. I just tried on a pair of pants I bought about a month ago and I can get them on but the waist is tighter than when I bought it. It's like all my stomach fat has risen to my waist! I don't dare do measurements yet - I'm just going to continue on with faith, and maybe after about 20 hours do some measuring.

Sandrahanna,

Thanks for the great posts about frequency. I've used a few pointers you've given other beginners here, too. So glad you've joined us!

Sue, I think Sandra and Callan pointed this out that it all rises and meets in middle then goes in.

ScrtGrl - thanks for the note a couple pages back. I don't get on the board as much as I'd like but wanted to acknowledge your response.

I got up at 5am this morning and attempted some Callan but I was too stiff and didn't want to push things. I'll try again tonight.

My main problem area is my stomach. Would it be beneficial to do just the stomach exercises, or is that not recommended?

TIA

Yes, I would be happy to. I think most people on here seem to love it and combine it with 10 in 10. I have no intention on starting Super C yet far to hard, i was just curious to have a look. I wonder if some of the ones who do it regularly could tell me if the stomach exercises and behind and hip exercises are the same as on 10 or are they tweaked a bit on SC.
Thanks all
Anna

Secret - I measured myself today after 15 hours of callan and no weight loss or weight gain. I haven't lost at all infact i have put on inches. I think I just have too much fat to lose first. My legs feel firmer and i suspect i have nice muscles develping there, just they're invisable due to the layer of fat covering them.

I am going to keep going with Callan as I am becoming much "bendier" and flexible Hooray! And hope to notice the results everyone else seems to be getting soon !!

Callaneticsteacher, Sandrahanna, or anyone who knows

I have a question about the strong warning against doing this while pregnant. Is there really any danger in doing this while pregant? And if so, how much?

What if you are in your child-bearing years and not preventing conception? So there is always a chance that you might be pregnant? Would you not do these exercises?

Thanks for any input.

Everal, That warning is for the stomach excersises because they work so deep. If you are in child bearing years, just do this, because most things you do before your pregnant you can keep doing while pregnant. If you are in an early trimester the excersies won't hurt the baby, but when you know just talk to your doctor, most abs excersise need to be modifide for the later stages. I'm sure a more expert opinion will chime in.

Sandra, I have a question. I stated with a couple Lotte Berk dvds, then found Callan, I have all the books and 10 and super, and the Bar Method. They are all very simialar, except in callan we pulse the abs, the other are more a hold the contaction for x amount of seconds. I can see the good of both, but I do think the pulsing is a little easier. What are your thought on this? I also do T-Tapp. I am trying to develop a healthy mix here. Because I like these excercises a lot, but a few years back, my Dh said they weren't working so well, t-tapp does and is, but I also really like these, it is the dancer in me. I hope I make sense.

Way to go

Don't panic you're doing great work. This is absolutely normal and a good sign.

Don't forget when we train in Callanetics we lift up quicker than we pull in. Don't stop now you are unveiling your perfect body shape.

When this happens to my students I tell them to focus more on lengthening out of the pelvic floor and maybe do extra of the waist exercise.

When you practise the hip and behind exercises also ensure that you are keeping your waist and hip totally relaxed; there's no need to contract these muscles to tone them.

Stretch, stretch and stretch out of your pelvic floor.

Thanks Kathy

It's so bizarre and I now totally understand everyones motivation on this site.
Finding time for me to work out is just about impossible. I finish teaching, I come in to office and work. I have a beautiful studio on the other side of the wall, which 21 years ago when first starting Callanetics, I would have died for.

But do I go in there, alone, to work out? - Hardly ever. I usually find something to distract me in the office.

However, once I made the commitment to LCF to off to SuperC, nothing was going to get in my way. I amazed myself at how easy it was to just put the DVD on and get to work.

I felt great after. This morning I'm feeling more solid in my butt (my butt is the pain of my life, I always have to work it to keep it lifted and 'peachy'.)

Plus, I can't wait to get another one in today.

I have a few suggestions to intensify the workout - mainly the leg workout which I'll do later. I'm off to teach now.
