One more hour of Evolution complete! I'm engaging the PF more and more and I can really feel how it intensifies the work the muscles are doing (that was a first!) And I can even do a tiny bit of the intermediate moves. I'll be doing many of the beginner modifications for quite a while, I think, though.

Another great thing about Evolution is that I don't have to do the knee modifications for any of the kneeling exercises like in 10/10. Hooray!

Age and Callanetics

I have a question about age. My mom is 89 and I'd like to show her some of the callanetics exercises (I have the Beginners VHS tape and was planning to show her that). She was complaining about her flabby underarms and I showed her the underarm tightener. I only had her do 10, but she told me later that she kept practicing them. Is 89 too old? I remember Callan had her mom on the 10/10 tape, but I think she was 76. I don't know if she'll be able to do the hip and behind exercises because she has a hard time getting up once down, but she's still active (lives on her own, drives, etc.). I love Callanetics and want to share it with her, but I don't want to hurt her!
Thanks.
Kathy

Hours 8 & 9 of 10/10 down!

I am nearly at my 10th hour of 10/10. I am looking forward to measuring but not sure I can see any results yet.

I am really struggling with the hip and behind exercises. I am really trying to ensure my positioning is correct, but I can feel it more in the side of my body and the front of my thigh, than in my hip and bum! What am I doing wrong?!?!

I am amazed at how many people are following this thread, and I also think a callanetics board would be an excellent idea!

Thank you so much! That's a really good idea. Could you maybe describe how they used it for me? I know it's probably hard to explain in writing. Thanks again!

I'll do my best! I didn't try it this way though so am just going off sight. The instructor would have them sat on the ball, holding on to to the barre, with legs bent and either side of the ball. They were doing pelvic curls and moving up and down like the rest of us, but on the ball. And I remember the teacher telling them to squeeze with the inner thighs at the same time. Looked like a great workout for those thighs. Wish I'd tried it now!

Hope that makes sense! Again, maybe one of the instructors here would be able to explain it better.

I recently started a new job and one of the things I loved about it is that my boss allowed me to go to the gym on my lunch break. So I've been doing 30 minutes of light walk/running 3x a week during lunch- and then Callan at night 3 or 4 times a week. Well, he just told me today that the partners aren't liking that and that I may have to drop the gym routine. No, my firm doesn't give a hoot about work/life balance. I really need this job & I am new there so I can't really make a fuss...

So my question is, what if I was to just do Callan 5 or 6 times a week & no cardio? Believe me, I definitely understand the importance of cardio but I get home SO late at night from work, I really can't muster up the energy to do it (weekends are out of the question unfortunately). HOWEVER, I can muster up the energy to do Callan before bed. I am absolutely completely willing to do that.

As I mentioned, I would like to lose 3 inches on my hips/butt and 3 inches on each thigh. Is it possible to do that with just Callan?

Hopefully in about 6 months after I prove myself there I will be able to resume the gym/lunch/cardio routine- because I really do know it's fantastic for your cardiovascular system among other things, but for now it's not looking like it's going to work out anymore.

I would love to hear your thoughts.

Thats strange - its not their business what you do on your lunch hour unless you are taking longer than you should ? How do they know your not just going out to eat ? Most likely some jealous female complaining. You probably should have never mentioned what you do on your lunch hour unless they see you are changing clothes and felt you had to ?

3rd hour done of 10 in 10. It seemed ridiculously more difficult this time but I think I remember reading other people had the same experience.

Do you have any of the Callanetics books or DVDs? They are a great way to start. I would try "Beginning Callanetics" and "CallaneticsEvolution" DVD.

Don't give up! Just keep doing it. You will be amazed how it gets easier the more you do it. I had a really hard time with my neck the first few times doing the ab exercises. After about 5 or 6 times the pain was gone, because I was stronger.

Stick around here for support, motivation and great tips!

Thank you CallanFan. That's very good to hear. I appreciate the response.

In response to Yellowhair, unfortunately the industry I work in is very, very competitive. For the first 6 months (while it's never said out loud) it is sort of expected that you not even really take lunches and just work through it. After you have proved yourself it is a lot more lenient. I am new here (as well as to the career as a whole-I am still in training mode) and at the bottom of the totem pole so it's important that I make a good impression. This is a very good opportunity for me to become financially stable (which in NYC is not that easy when you're on your own!) and I do love my work, so for now, I need to do what is suggested. And no, I would never change clothes at work, I think it's more that they really just don't want anyone new leaving for more than the briefest amount of time!

If anyone else has experience getting results with just Callan alone (I am doing 10/10 & Evolution up to 5/6x a week) I would love to hear.

Thank you again for your thoughts,
Secret

I just started doing both 10 in 10 and Evolution last week, and had aimed for at least 3 types of cardio also, but only found myself able to work in one. I really want to dedicate the time I have to exercise to Callanetics, so I'm not going to focus on cardio right now either. If I can work something in, OK, but that's it. Maybe we can monitor each other and see how it works out?

I'm seeing results and am basically just doing Callan. I get some walking in from trying to park further away from the store and an occasional walk on the beach with dh on the weekend, but no set cardio. I'm trying to now incorporate the cardio portion of CardioCallanetics, but I'm just getting started with that so can honestly say my results so far are from Callan alone.

I have photos in a separate thread, you can can the difference there. Also i think you would get faster results if you cut back to 3x a week doing Callanetics. I was doing Callanetics 5x a week, then when i started my training i knocked it back to 3x a week and switched to Super C, in less then 2 weeks my body has changed once again! People are asking me if i've lost weight(i've lost about 4lbs recently) and i can see & feel what Super C has/still doing to my body. I LOVE IT!!
Oh, right now i'm only doing Callanetics nothing else.

I just wanted to said that those photos of me are old(since Dec and i need to update) because i look sooooo much better now and it shows!

One hour of 10 in 10 done. Although it's still hard, I have to say I found it easier today than ever before. Guess my muscles are "learning" the positions and getting a little stronger.

I thought for quicker results to do Callan 5-6x a week? Or should we only do it 3x a week if we are on Super C?

Really, you could do it both ways. I find that with Super C 3x a week is perfect! i'm not really sure if you would want to Super C 5-6x that might be too much.
I seem to remember that Sandra said its great to do Callanetics everyday.

TC, given that Super C is far more challenging than 10 in 10, I doubt that it would be advised to do Super C more than 4 x a week. I will stand corrected, deferring to those more qualified than I to give such advice.

I would think constant hammering of the same muscle groups over and over and over all week would be counterproductive, without sufficient time to heal/recover. Muscles develop better when given time to heal.

My average for Super C is three times a week. Some weeks, twice a week.
