"ADLMA: The information provided by the surgeon states to limit twisting and bending. I DON'T WANT TO GIVE UP MY CALLAN! I can't tell you how much it is alarming me that I may have to stop Callan. I have seen such amazing changes in my body, I put in the work, and I don't want to go back...."

.....Prayers to you. Hoping that Sandra will have some wonderful advice. It's gonna be okay.

Amazon has a good price on the DVD. I think most folks start with 10 in 10. I did.

For me, I either skip the before neck exercises or do them after I finish the abs segment.

(I'm very tall and very out of shape, so it's all kinds of awkward.) I'm doing my best and hopefully everything will improve with time.

My husband is doing 10 in 10 with me, and although he is not a "forum" kind of guy, maybe the other gentlemen here would like to know there's one more guy in the league?
I'm trying to convince my husband to join me, so any news of your DH's progress would be great (if he's willing to share.) I think mine thinks it's designed primarily to contour women.

Hey again everyone! Wow... lots of new faces!

I know I popped my head in a few months and was really getting into the swing of things, when our family just had back to back flus/bronchitis/you name it. Between the the four of us, and me doing most of the caretaking, I lost track of my efforts to do my Callan.

Anyway, all is well now and I'm excited to be back.

I'm on a fairly strict diet (a low cal, low carb) protein sparing modified fast, so I'm probably only going to do 10/10 2x a week, plus some long walks, because I don't want to push it.

Noreen, congrats on pursuing instructor credentials! Congrats, Harley!

Alright, must go corral the little people. 1 hour 10 /10 done.

I want to second whoever mentioned the cracking knees during pelvic scoops. That is a little freaky and it happens to me, too. Although I'm getting a little better at them, I still don't feel my thighs are driving the train.

Any thoughts?

Why is it necessary to bend at the torso on those standing leg segments, both bent knee and straight? What does that add, if anything?

I'm even more curious after experiencing Evolution, because the standing leg segments there do not show a leaning torso. And frankly, I feel that I can better engage the PF and focus more deeply on pelvic/leg form if I'm NOT leaning my torso.

Would love to hear back from you on this. Thanks so much.

Twyla,
If i'm correct you bend the you are standing on to relief pressuue on the standing leg, also leaning over is suppose to also relief pressure......i think???!
Good question!

Thanks so much! I'll try this - maybe my neck is tired from the warmup neck exercises.

As long as they're isn't any pain in your knee caps, continue to exercise. As your quads strenthen it will improve. Glucosamine is also really good as was mentioned.

When doing rotations or scoops keep your pelvic floor activated and stay stretched up through he spine to keep excess weight off he knees.

If doing the kneeling exercises just doesn't work - do them standing at he barre. If you look back a couple of pages there is written instructions on this.

Keep exercising though - you need to take heed of this so that it doesn't get worse.

Sandrax

In answer to the "crunchy knees" concerns.

(Noreen, thanks...so we're both a little curious, right?)

Hi everyone, I have a question about the newer Callanetics Evolution DVD. What is the difference between your pelvic floor and the old tightening your behind and tip your pelvis up? I have the 10/10 and I'm considering getting the newer one, but I don't want to shell out the money until I investigate a bit and find out if its worth it. Thanks, Chrissy

Here's some great info from HoneyBeelove212:

"I have been able to "preview" an excerpt from various exercise DVD's on

Exercise, Workout and Fitness videos & DVDs

You might give it a try... "

You can do a search on Callanetics and preview the dvds we are discussing in this forum. Then if you are interested in purchasing them you can buy them there or on amazon.com. There are also books on Callanetics you may be able to find in your local library.

My 6 year old daughter did the stretches and the ab exercises from 10/10 last night. She was like but also . She approached me about it, I definitely didn't try to force it on her or anything. She couldn't do everything or all the reps, but I'm so proud or her!

Mary M - My 9 year old does Callan with me. She loves it. My 4-year-old tries, but she mostly bends over and moans. Huumm, I don't know where she ever got the idea that that is how Callan is done!

I just did another hour. That makes 4 this week!

Wow this thread is always so busy, it's so great. Just finished another hour of Super Callanetics. I also took a friend swimming today. She is so overweight and I'm desperatley trying to get her fit and healthy before it's too late. I showed her a few Callanetics exercises but she found it impossible because of her size. So we tried them again in the pool. It was great. The water helped to support her body and I got her doing some stretches and hip & behind exercises. I was really proud of her. Has anyone ever tried Callanetics in the swimming pool?

Also, Sandra do you have any suggestions for stomach exercises for people who are really overweight? My friend can't do the normal ones at all. I've got her doing lots of walking which is helping the weight come off.

Ben, you read my mind. I have girlfriend who is obese and she is interested in Callanetics, how do you show someone Callanetics who is quite overweight/obese???
My guess is i would have to modify the exercises so she could do it.....

I think CallaneticsEvolution is better for people who are obese. I'm gonna go through the DVD with her and see what she can and can't do. Then maybe between us all we can come up with some alternative exercises. Really I just want to get her moving and realising that she needs to change.
