I've ordered the 10/10 dvd from amazon today so I won't get it for about 10 days (to the UK).
I used to have the vhs many years ago and still have the original blue book (from '89 - UK publication) and the Callenetics Countdown red book. Looking through the 10/10 book today I still remember most of the programme (I used to have it memorised).
I've not done Callenetics for a long time (I discovered it age 14 in 1990!) but I do remember how amazing it was and what it did for me as a chubby teen with no interest or encouragement in sport!
I don't know if anyone can answer this but why was the 'Open and Close' left out of the video? I've always wondered that!
Anyway I'm looking forward to joining this challenge properly and I'll do full measurements before I start. I'm doing various cardio and aerobics with weights (Leslie Sansone 3/4 miles and The Firm) at the moment but want to incorporate Callanetics into my week properly.
I have to say this thread and other Callenetics threads from the past few months have been incredibly inspiring. I want to wish everyone continued success!
All the best

This is kinda funny. I was po'd missing the ferry so I took my youngest dd to Value Village and we were checking out what was in the books. ha ha ha guess what I scored for $1.99 . 10/10 book. It looks like it had never been opened. Now I can finally return the library copy!

Just finished Super Callanetics...complete with my pelvic floor engaged. It certainly felt more intense. What I did notice the most was that I was more lifted-up in all the exercises. Does that make sense? I really felt like I was standing tall or sitting tall. I think I was experiencing the counter-pulls as a result of having my pelvic floor engaged.

I sometimes found it hard to keep my pelvic floor engaged all the time. I kept having to remind myself. But it feels like it will just become a habit. And Noreen, I know what you mean about the butt-ache!!

I also realised that engaging your pelvic floor helps you to also engage your lower stomach muscles. By doing that I found I could do more repetitions.

One thing I always struggle with are the Pelvic Rotations. It's not that I find them difficult to do, I just find them so boring! I whizz through 10 on each side and then move onto to the next one. It's funny, I don't find any of the exercises boring except for that one.

Oh I also took a couple of the stomach exercises from South African Callanetics and added them in. They are for the obliques at the side. If anyone is interesting in seeing them I will try to take pictures from the DVD.

One funny thing about the Super Callanetics DVD, watch for Deaver's face after she has done 40 Pelvic Rotations. I looks like she's about to kill Callan!

Here you go, from South African Callanetics. There are 4 pictures each so wait for them to download.

Waist Lifter.
Don't arch your back, keep your pelvic floor engaged, pulse your hips up and down.

Oblique Abdminals.
Curl the pelvis up, engage pelvic floor, pulse legs up and down, keep elbow level with shoulder.

Maybe Sandra or Agnes can try these and give a few tips??

Twila - I just completed hour 22. I had been using the kitchen table, as the bar. I hurt my back (must be doing something a bit wrong). I switched to the chair arm as a bar. It seemed to easy, so I went back to the table. I did not hurt my back, but it does not feel so good now. I would love any suggestions you may present! Thanks in advance, you hot girl! You truly should consider instructing. (I know, you only had the spare time!)

God, I haven't been able to visit the board for days again, and there are already 8 pages to go through! Wow, Sandra, it's so amazing to have you here! I didn't want ot believe my eyes ... is it Sandra from the Evolution DVD? Yes, it is!

I have been teaching both the 10/10 and the Evolution, however, I only have started to teach full Evolution classes recently (I am a quite new teacher, got certified on October 2007). As so many other people I feel attached to the traditional workout, however I have been putting more and more of the new ideas and techniques into it as I love them. I have read your tips on how to modify some of the 10/10 exercises, and so far, this is exactly how I modify them. When teaching a traditional class, I also do the first two hips and bum exercises from the traditional workout and a second hips and bum exercise from the Evolution (Three Legged and Big Leg Scissors). I sometimes replace the pelvis circles with the Brutal Scoop - as people favour them, and the front thigh stretch with the Suspension Bridge (although I understand that it first of all stretches the back, and strengthens the pelvic floor, the hip and behind muscles). What do you think about these? I can't wait to read some more tips.

Thank you for your support on this thread! As a teacher, I really appriciate to learn even more from you.

Oh, I'm going to have my first Cardio Callanetics class this evening in a fairly new fitness centre. I have taught the cardio workout a few times at home in my "mini" studio but only for a maximum of 2 people together, so I'm really excited!

Agnes
Hey Agnes,

Isn't being a Callanetics Teacher the best job in the world? I just love it, and over the 7 years I've been teaching I find I'm constantly learning and becoming even more passionate about it.

I'm not surprised that the modifications I mentioned were familiar to you as this is how we trained. You may, like I was, have been surprised how different alot of things were once you started training. I'd been practising Callanetics for 14 years before certifying so when I went to US to train I was pretty confident. After the 1st hour I was humbled and realised "I knew nothin' "

I did exactly as you are doing with gradually bringing in new exercises. I certified traditional and then went back a few months later for spiralling. But because I hadn't really practised the exercises a great deal myself at that time and hadn't 'fallen in love' with them.

However, I started to see such quick changes in my body shape from the new exercises that I was able to sell them to my classes. Now I teach a mix of Evolution with a little traditional thrown in.

AFter reading through this forum and how everyone seemed to favour 10/10 I thought I should give it a go. I taught the sitting hip and behind at the barre for the first time for years last night and this morning. My students found it challenging. The key is to constantly change the exercises. I wait until my students start to really make an exercise look easy - then I change it. They moan but ultimately love the result they get from the variant.

Apologises for blabbing on - I love being and talking with other teachers you can learn heaps. That was one of the things I loved about the filming process.

Keep in touch
Sandrax

Just checking in. This forum is so inspiring with all the testimonials, instructions, hints, etc. I don't think I have ever felt this positive about an excercise program. In fact, I hate to call it that because it sounds boring and Callanetics is not boring.

Anyway, just finished my 2nd hour for April, 6th hour total. Also ordered CardioCallanetics today and can't wait for it to get here.

Thank you everybody for being here.

Just completed my 18th hour and tried something new. I didn't follow along with the DVD but got my Callan book out and tried it myself. I've decided I like doing Callan either way-just really luv Callan however I do it! Connie I have Cardio and have problems with it-I tire very easily because of the Fibro and fall over sometimes (call me a Weeble!) when I attempt to do it. Hopefully I will be strong enough soon! Let us know how it goes for you!

Thanks for the heads up lisabinil. I guess I was feeling so good today I didn't even think about possible problems with it. ( Know the weeble feeling!) Will let you know how it goes.

Thanks Ben. I only own the 10/10 right now, but was planning on buying the Cardio and Evolution or the S African ones soon. I'll take your advice and prolly get those two next payday.

Hi Lisa,
Sometimes I do it with the book too and listen to music. I love it either way also, but changing it up is good now and then! Congrats on 18 hours!

I've noticed over my 10 hours of 10/10 that the moves become a little easier and I get stronger with each session, but I've only really thought about the strength gains in terms of Callanetics.

I decided to give Callan a rest tonight, so I did TJ Lower Body Jam. I've always found that workout to be tougher than the other Tj workouts. Those bands really make your legs burn!

So...guess what? I have done no lower body work other than my 10 hours of 10/10 since last time I did Lower Body Jam. It was SO much easier this time! My legs felt incredibly strong I am amazed at what I have gained in just 10 hours of Callanetics!

Yeah us!! Anyone just starting out...take pictures!! You'll be SO glad you did!

I ditto what Connie said:
THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR BEING HERE!!

There are no photos here that I know of. Sandra is the instructor on the CallaneticsEvolution DVD and on the toning portion of the CardioCallanetics DVD so those of us that have one or both of those DVD's have seen her lead our exercises.
