I love this board!

We have the smartest, friendliest people! I am learning so much by reading the posts. It's crazy the number of posts that have been going up - I have to read the board everyday or I may never keep up with the good stuff!

Taking the night off to attend a Pampered Chef Party so back to Callanetics tomorrow. Have a great night!

You are welcome! Don't lift your legs more that 8 inches. When you are confident about your pelvis curl and rolling your hip forward just start pushing your upper body up and up as long as you can keep your leg about 3 inches above the floor. As you lift your torso further up, you might come out of the proper position (regarding hips & pelvis), so correct it: with your leg lifted roll your hip forward and tilt up again. Good luck and enjoy it!

It certainly is! I did a photoshoot (really not as glamourous as it sounds) and at the end I asked the photographer to take my pic to look like Callan. This was the result!

Yes, I definitely recommend to buy the 10/10 book! The explanations for the exercises are very detailed and amazing, you will find exercises in the book that the DVD doesn't have, and a 15 minutes program to keep at your fitness level if you don't have much time. You can also learn the advanced versions of the exercises from the book, and read lots of inspiring lines from Callan. Oh, and photos of evidence!

But if you are unsure about anything, just ask!

Agnes

Agnes and thank you for all the information you are providing.

Congratulations Twyla on reaching and passing 250 hours!

Almost forgot.....Marsha is my Callan pimp, also.

Benjamin - Nice pic! I wisih I had your legs!

What a marvelous thread this is! Thank you so much Callaneticsteacher for the quick answer to my question. I feel energized from my workouts and don't feel like I'm overdoing. That being said, I may do Super only once a week. Do not dread my Callanetics workouts at all, however, I find I may dread Super's hip & behind...the 600 reps per leg is daunting. I can comfortably do all of it until I get to the standing ones, where you lean to the side of you bent or outstretched leg. Probably not any harder, it's just by then, my muscles are way past tired. It is an incredible workout.

Today, I took a 3-mile outside walk, cold, but sunny and did the entire CardioCallanetics. Lovely.

Hi Agnes,

there are TWO of the 10/10 books, one from 1987 and one form 1989. Which one is the one to get?

Thank you!

Evening All!

Ok peeps. Please help me get started. I am the proud owner of a Callanetics 10/10 DVD. I haven't opened the shrink wrap yet. I am already overwhelmed by reading this thread. The moves sound SO complicated and you gotta get it 'just right"!

So, what do I do first? Got any baby steps advice for this Callanetics virgin?

Thanks for any help!

VL,

I don't think you should feel intimidated by some of the lingo that you've been reading on this thread.

True, everyone should strive for good form, and that's what makes Callanetics most effective.

But as you will see once you begin with the workout, Callan is very helpful in her instructions, esp if you watch it through the first time, listen, learn, then do it the second time through. That's how I began.

Depending on your level of fitness, some people have more difficulty than others doing what Callan says, i.e., lifting their leg off the floor in one section of the hip/thigh parts of the DVD. It looks so easy, but deceptively challenging. And the thing to do is just take note of the suggestions that have been given both here and that Callan discusses throughout the workout. One person may find a particular section easy, others may find it more challenging. Taking baby steps and doing what you can as you gain strength and flexibility, that's all you need to concern yourself with.

It's not as daunting as you think.

But be prepared to say ouch the next day.

Best to you.

Twyla,

Thank you SO much for the pep talk. I was seriously thinking of chickening out and sending the DVD back (that's why I didn't take the shrink wrap off!), but after your post, I've gotten my bravery back and I'll try it out.

Please don't anyone get upset with me if I ask lots of stoopid questions. Please?

I couldn't sleep last night so I was up at 3am doing Callanetics! When I did the class with Agnes she made a tiny correction to the position of my leg on the 'hips and behind' exercises. OH MY GOD!! I can feel it so much more deeply now! I swear I had an instant butt-lift!

Aren't they the same? If the title is the same, more than likely they will be the same. I lent mine to somebody and have been calling her to check it out - but no answer. I will get back to you on this! I will just let you know which year mine is. Sorry! Agnes

Yeah, if the title is the same then it's just a re-print. I have a couple of copies...one was printed in 1984 and one in 1989. They are exactly the same except for the date.

Well, I made my first milestone...I finished hour 10 of 10/10!! It felt great. I just measured this morning. There has been a small change in my hips/thighs (which I'll take). But I was hoping for more. That's alright. It's just motivation for me tighten and tip more.

I also ordered Callanetics Countdown. I found it in Amazon for $4 including shipping. I figured that it could help me with some pointers on how to focus on my problem areas. I also contacted a teacher in Dallas to see if I could schedule a private session. It would be a drive for me, but worth the pointers that Benjamin has been raving about!

As Twyla said, the best is to watch the DVD first and just listen and learn. The program is hard at first. Count your pulses, and you will see that you will be able to do more and more every time, and that will show how fast you are getting stronger and will motivate you a lot! Keep in mind that everybody is stronger and more flexible one day than another, and possibly one of your sides will be stronger than the other too. So, for example if you feel less flexible after the 3rd hour than after the 2nd, or you could do more pulses after the 4th hour than the 5th, don't worry, just be patient, it happens to me too. Also be sure that you don't rush the pulses on your weaker side, as you might pull in a bit faster on your stronger side. My advice is to take measurements, see examples on my site: 10 YEARS YOUNGER IN 10 HOURS | PRIVATE CLASSES AVAILABLE.

When you do stretches:
Never force anything. Your muscles will stretch when they want to and not when you want them to. All you can do is RELAXING every single muscle you have while rounding your back. I even ask my students to close their eyes and switch their minds off. When you for example round your back over your leg for the standing hamstring stretch (leg on the bar), just let gravity bring your upper body down instead of forcing it deeper and deeper. The more you relax, the lower your torso can go. Same for the sitting stretches. The way you know that you did a stretch correctly is that if you come out of it, it feels comfortable.

You will see that Callan's instructions are fantastic, and inspiring, just follow them. One of the first ones will be not to worry about the counter on the screen, do the exercises at your own pace. The more you play the DVD, the more new things you will discover on it.

Enjoy the DVD and let us know how you are getting on, and if you need any advise!

Agnes

Regarding the hip/behind exercises for me-some days I can get my legs off the floor and others I am in too much pain or too weak. I just go with the flow and pay attention to my body and do what I can. It sure does feel like an accomplishment when I can do 50! Paula lean over to the side more-as you get stronger like callaneticsteacher said you will be able to show better form-this is what worked for me. I will do my 9th hour today and am looking forward to it.

Agnes,
I have a question for you, in Callanetics Evolution, the hips & behind where you are on your side knees bent at a right angle and life the knee and pulse. I've been having some trouble with it. Ben gave me a few pointers, here's what he said.I did struggle to figure that one out too. But now I understand it and it works like crazy! The only thing i can really say is get in the starting position with your knees and heels together at a right angle from your body. Look carefully at your position and check it is a proper right angle. Now keep your heels together and just lift your knee. Check you don't let your hips fall back. Keep them directly on your side with the actual hip bone pointing up to the ceiling. Don't let you upper body collapse to the floor. Now I found it does help if you tighten your behind and curl your pelvis up a bit. They only mention the pelvic floor but tightening your behind and curling your pelvis up actually helps you learn this one. Now your heels should still be together. Pulse up and down from your knee. It's ok to let your heels come apart a bit but keep them close together. Does that help?? If it doesn't help I'll try and think of a clearer explanation.
Is there another way of learning that hips & behind???
His way works, i did it the other day, and let me tell you i was SORE afterwards!
