Hi Noreen,

I only can encourage you! Teaching Callanetics has changed my life. I love it more than anything I have ever done! ... And it will keep me fit forever!

Callanetics is fantastic and unfortunately has been a bit forgotten - there are a lot of fashionable fitness exercise programs on offer, but non of them works faster and safer for somebody who wants to reshape and firm the body. I'm trying my best to bring it back!

Good luck for your training, you will love it!

You need to get the DVDs from America. The best place is Amazon.com (instead of .co.uk).

Hi Paula,

Go to Callanetics, "Find a teacher" and see which location is the closest to you. It is really worth to travel at least once or once in a while to have a class with a certified teacher. You can order DVDs from the official website, or just go to Amazon.

About weight - please don't even look at the scale anymore. Numbers don't matter, use your mirror and your measuretape instead. If you gain muscle, you actually can weight more while having a smaller dress size.

Once you start exercising you will see that it changes your attitude toward food. You will watch what you put into your body. If you are on a diet program, every lost pound will look like two.

Agnes

Oh my goodness! Just checked in to see what was new to the thread before the day got crazy and Noreen is going to be a teacher and we have a real live trainer posting now! Three or four years ago, on Video Fitness, I lurked (never posted, wasn't exercising) on a Callanetics Challenge, and a trainer posted for quiet a while, was very instructive.

Wanted to say something about my WOE, does anyone else remember Thin So Fast by Michael Eades? Getting such wonderful results from a program I did in the late 80's, I thought back to what had worked for me diet wise, and I dug out my old copy of this book, Thin So Fast. It's considered a Modified Protein Sparing Diet, in the book, the Dr. gives several "recipes" for protein drinks you prepare yourself, plus one protein-rich meal a day. So the plan is I drink 4 protein drinks a day plus one protein-rich meal. 6 oz. protein, 1 cup salad/2tblsp dressing, and 1 cup veggie like brocolli, brussell sprouts, cauliflower, etc. Part of the reason my results haven't matched the effort I've put into Callanetics is my diet's been sloppy. I do well on my low-carb on days I'm home, not going to dr's offices or lab work (still waiting on better lab work for my husband to have surgary),etc. But when I'm away from home or get off my routine, I "pig". Total stress-eating. And empty carbs do a real number on me...one is NEVER enough, I seem to need MILLIONS! Okay, I've rambled on enough.

Hapi,

For the last couple of years I've been following a mixture of Atkins and BFFM, gleaning bits and pieces from both theories to target my specific needs. It's worked well.

However, we can never know enough about nutrition and fitness goals via nutrition, so I read what I can from various sources and apply things if they seem like something I can either benefit from or stick to.

Lately I'm reading the Eades' book Protein Power for Life Plan, and I've upped my protein this past week a bit, and I'm keeping net carbs around 35 (this does not factor in my cycling days). My fat this week has been between 45-48%. I've felt very satisfied this week, and I just FEEL GOOD, ENERGETIC, alert. Not sure how to describe it. It may be a coincidence. Only time will tell.

To keep myself on plan, I always go prepared: I cook up quantities of stuff on Sunday to eat throughout the week, and I never leave the house without almonds and string cheese in my purse. I drink protein shakes when I'm tight on time. To work it best, you really do have to plan ahead to avoid temptations.

Hope this helps some. You know what your body responds to best. And remember, nothing tastes as good as being lean feels.

Welcome Agnes! How nice to have an instructor!

Paula...I am 6'2 so i know how you feel. Fluidity is spendy, but nice. If you're looking for less spendy you might try a saw horse found in home supply stores. There also used to be instuctions for making one out of pvc pipe. You might google if interested.

Daisy, when I refer to cycling, I mean carb and/or calorie cycling. Every so many days -- it varies -- I will increase my carbs up (varying levels, some much higher, some only moderately higher) as well as my calories, esp if I've gone several days with no progress. It gets my metabolism running more efficiently again. I tend to keep carbs low to moderate, but I think our bodies go to war against this concept and hold onto every ounce of weight/water/fat when we do this. So I cycle to keep it guessing. For instance, this past weekend on Saturday and Sunday I ate well over 2000 calories and probably had about 80-100 carbs on those days. I was out of town and didn't log it in Fitday, but in my head, and I'm sure I was in that range.

Tuesday morning showed a loss for the first time in two weeks.

Not sure if this would help you, but I do Callanetics in the same room that my treadmill is located. I use the bar on my treadmill for the bar exercises and it works fine for me.

Interesting! I'll keep this in mind.

Of course I have to give my body time to even realize I'm not having sugar. It is very used to me playing around and not meaning it.

I'm learning a lot on this thread. Especially from you Twyla. Thanks for your help!

Just got back from the gym (lazy swim and steam room only). They have a beautiful studio with a barre all the way round. It was completely empty but I didn't have the courage to go in there and do Callanetics. How pathetic of me. I'm determined to pluck up the courage this weekend and go in there and do Callanetics and not care if people are watching.

mevluvmark, last month I did 13 hours of 10/10, 8 hours of CallaneticsEvolution, and 6 hours of CardioCallanetics. Even though the two newer programs are different, they really do work you muscles deep, so I went ahead and counted their hours in my total to go on to Super Callanetics. Super is very similiar to 10/10 thru the first 3 stomach exercises, then it includes brutal additions for the abs. Then the hip and behind includes the ones from 10/10 PLUS 2 different ones kneeling (these are found on Quick Hips and Behind) and 2 very difficult ones standing. Stretches from 10/10 are there, plus additional ones, such as splits. So 10/10 is there, only with more reps in most cases, and with additional, more difficult moves. There's a lot of room to grow with Super Callanetics. Noreen, is it very costly to become a teacher? I couldn't find out any info on that @ the site.
