Heya Lisa!!!

How are you doing? Is the Callan helping your fibro?

I notice my neck is bothering me, but I'm hoping it will get better.

Do you think it has helped your fibro overall? How often do you do the whole DVD?

My belly is no where near where I want it to be. It’s smaller then it was before but it’s still pretty big to me. It’s my trouble spot.

Twyla, you’ve been doing Callanetics much longer and have logged so many hours, are you continuing to drop pants sizes? I would guess you stop dropping sizes at some point right? Otherwise you’d be a size -10 by now, lol.

I started Callanetics wearing a size 8, dropped to a size 6 and pretty sure I can fit some size 4s. I can’t afford to be a size 4 and not sure I really want to be that small. I’m perfectly happy being a solid 6. What would you veterans suggest that I do at this point?

I still want to slim my legs and get my belly down a bit more but I don’t want to drop any more sizes. I would LOVE to log 10 more hours but I’m scared . . . can anyone offer any insight?

I’ve ordered some weight lifting DVDs from Amazon last night. I think I need to up my muscle tone in my upper body. Perhaps the weight lifting will give me the bulk I need to not drop any more sizes while I continue Callanetics?

I really don’t know what to do at this point and open to all ideas and suggestions.
Hi Snuckles,

that's a very interesting point you got to. First of all, don't be afraid, just think simply. What is happening is not that you are getting smaller and smaller until you are gone! Your body is transforming. You are not just getting smaller, but getting smaller at one area, rounding at another, and lifting at another at the same time. Your body is getting to be it's "ideal" shape, however, the preferences are individual. You might want to swap your routine to the 20 minutes programs for stomach and legs for a while. Once the tummy has cought up, you can do the hour program again to keep you fit (maybe just twice or once a week). I would like to warn you about weights though. A women's thighs are the area that can be overdeveloped in no time. Too much contraction, or the use of weights can result in bigger thighs and bulky, protruding muscles. My advice is that for thinner thighs, definitely do the Callanetics leg exercises only.

I tell you my experience. As I was slim, I thought I wouldn't get smaller when I started to exercise during my training after some lazy years. I didn't want to get smaller and I was scared to have smaller hips as I always had small hips and therefore never a nice waistline. My problem was being lose, I felt that I had no muscles. As I was exercising, I started to look as if I had lost weight because I became slightly smaller. For a while people were saying that I should stop losing weight because I'm getting too skinny. Then I discovered my waistline that I never had before. I stopped worrying then and just kept exercising. Now, people say that I have a very nice body. I'm just as slim as before, but shaply.

Even if you get a bit slimmer than you wanted, you always can try to put on some weight again. If you are happy with your shape, just target what you still want to change.

I hope I could be useful, don't stress!

Agnes

Hi everyone -

I was so excited to find this message board. About a month ago, I decided I need to get my act together and I have changed my eating habits and have been working out faithfully, I even signed up with a trainer at the gym I attend. My results have been pretty good. But one thing that has been bothering me is that my trainer does not implement any streching at all. Well, in the early 90's I was devoted to my Callenetics and in the back of my mind I keep thinking I don't want to get too bulky. (By the way when I was doing Callanetics back in the 90's I was in the best shape I've have ever been in my life.)

So, I Googled Callantetics and found out there were two new DVD's, so I've ordered them both and can't wait to get them. In the meantime I've been so inspired by the board I am going to pull out my old VHS and get started. My goal is to add Callanetics twice a week to what I am doing already, which is a lot of cardio and working out with the trainer. I think it will balance things out. I can't wait to see the results!!!

Due to various life events, etc., I have a bit of a journey at this point probably 65 lbs to loose, but I know I can do it.

Thanks to everyone for such a motivating board! I'm glad Callanetics is alive and kicking!

Hi, I have to confess to not having done callanetics, or indeed any exercise for at least a fortnight, I have had a low grade virus that has really pulled me down and its all I can do to do all the things I have to do, with work and kids. This developed into bronchitis last week and i am now on antibiotics. Feeling low but after reading all your posts feel motivated to start callan again, hopefully tonight. I couldn't do my running or weights but feel able to do some of callan, I hope the stretching will help my back pain. My woe has gone to dissary too as feeling crappy and turning to food ahhhhh!! Thanks for all the motivating posts and lovely pics (fantastic abs now), I will do it, I will, I will.

I love the neck warmups-my neck is all crunchy & crackly when I start but is looser and feeling better at the end of the hour. I aim for doing the whole hour every other day. I feel any kind of movement or stretching helps my Fibro-I feel sore and exhausted after sometimes but on my rest day I generally feel much better. I still adapt the hip/behind exercises and can't do the pelvic rotations a lot of the time because the pain in my legs is too great. Still have to try CallanTeachers suggestion to do in the chair.

Yesterday, got in a nice 3-mile walk outside, plus worked in the yard for a couple of hours and did Super Callanetics, perfect end to the day.

Marsha- my upper inner thighs are not toning a much as I would like either

I did gym work today and some callan abs and stretching.
I did HIIT on the treadmill for 30 minutes and it made me but in a good way
Then I did 40 minutes of weight training with callan abs afterwards. I feel really great, but think my body may retain some water from running again. I drank about 100oz yesterday and woke up 1lb heavier, but I ran a lot yesterday too so I think that's why. I am going to continue the gym/callan mix until Tuesday when DH goes away again and then do callan only for a week. I figure my body can't "get used" to anything then

Howdy Y'all!

Finished 1 hour of 10/10.

What I am findIng is:

My neck hurts quite a bit, especially during the stomach exercises. I place my hands behind my neck instead of straight out.

I absolutely CAN NOT do the hip and behind exercises. Every time I get into position, my left leg goes into charlie horse cramps. Is there anything I can do to substitute?

Are any of the newer DVD exercises different and might be of help in the areas I cannot do?

So, tomorrow, I'm taking off, off, off.

Then, my plan is to do 1 hour every other day and do 1/2 hour on the other days and take Sundays off.

MG read futher back in CallaneticsTeachers posts-she tells how to adapt the hip/behind-you have to lean futher over. I have this same problem unless I am taking my magnesium-my neuro has me take it for my cramps due to the Fibro. Are you taking magnesium MG?

Heya Lisa,

Yes I am taking magnesium daily. I am taking Mag-Ox with my calcium and Vitamin D.

I'll look for the post you mentioned. Any idea where (what page) it is? Thanks!

Here's a good article about magnesium. Even better than the oxide is the chelated which is better absorbed by the body.

MountainGirl, another suggestion: On the Quick Hip & Behind and also Super Callanetics, in addition to the on the floor hip & behind, these are done kneeling and also standing. Perhaps you could try one of these positions instead until your muscles got used to the movements. From reading the book and the pros here in this thread, Callanetics is all about finding what works for you and applying the Callanetics principles. For either the kneeling or standing versions, you still bend your leg at the knee, align with hip, and gentle pulse back and forth. Or take leg out to your side, turn top of foot toward the floor, and lift slightly off floor and pulse up and down. I just now did a few of these in all the different positions, and I can actually see where the floor ones might actually cause you to cramp the most. See if that helps.

Hi everyone,
i'm new here, read about callanetics and just had to give it a try. I just did my 2nd hour tonight.

I really struggle with the lower back stretch as i have hyperlordosis/swayback. Im really hoping callanetics will help me with my posture. Also im quite short 5'2 and i bulk up really easily, so i want a leaner look.

Question, I have quite bulky calves, will callanetics target this area and stretch it out?
