callaneticsteacher - I have been trying to do the office stomach exercises and like you warned, your thighs get a workout, too! I also sit at my desk and do the inner thigh squeeze; the width of the desk drawer next to the kneehole is perfect! Last night was class until 9:30 so I didn't get any Callan in but tonight is another hour!

Okay Ladies! I'm still waiting for my 10/10 video that I ordered, However, I found it on the internet and downloaded it today. I completed my first hour. Man it was difficult. I had to keep stopping and I couldn't even get my foot off the floor in some of them. The stretches feel soo good. I'm hoping to drop a dress size by April 5th. I'll take some before pics tonight and maybe I'll post them with some afters in April. I still have 90lbs to lose so I'm doing South Beach diet so I doubt my results will be as dramatic as all of yours.

Kind of a personal question -

Have you ladies (or your SO's) noticed tightening in the pelvic area, or have your SO's commented on tightening during relations? I have done 5 hours of 10 in 10 so far and I swear it's different.

Well - mine commented on it, and I don't remember that happening before Callanetics (or after kids.

Hey Y'all!

Jumping back in here. I started today on the Callanetics 10/10. I did the full hour, but in doing some of the leg exercises, I had some cramping, so I modified the positions.

I'll read back through the thread for some helpful tips, but am I to understand that we are supposed to do one hour every OTHER day or 2 times per week, or every day?

Any other Newbie tips y'all want to share with me? I'm open to suggestions!

Hi,
It's whatever your body can handle, and your time commitments. Some do it every day, some just 15min, some twice a week.

Thanks for the reply!

Question: How does one only do 15 minutes, do they only do SOME of the moves and not others? Is that the recommended way, or is it to do the whole DVD from warm up to stretching?

Is one session (entire DVD) considered ONE HOUR?

Sorry to be so dense!

The 15-minute Maintenance Plan is an abbreviated version of 10/10 and is outlined in the book, which I took out of the Library. Love the Library!
It has the stretch warmup, underarms, waist stretch, ab ex #1 and #3, leg plies, Foot on bar stretch, both behind the hips, the stretch with legs on floor out, and then legs in stretch, pelvic scoop, and inner thigh squeeze.

Does typing all that count for a session?

Oh, and yes one session is considered and hour.

I think if your not strong enough to do the whole hour, just do shorter reps.

Yes, onaisland, you just completed about 50 finger pulses, work up to as many as you can.
MountainGirl, I have the 3 Quicks, which are about 20 minutes each, broken down into stomachs, legs, and hips and behind. You could work this out with the 10/10 workout and do a warm-up, the exercises for that body part, a stretch and be done for the day. I'm not sure how or if the 10/10 dvd is chaptered. I created mine from my original VHS and chaptered it to death so I can flit in and out of exercises if I want to.
On to the "personal" question. Yes, yes, yes. I've noticed the effect even more pronounced with doing CallaneticsEvolution, the pelvic floor is constantly to be tightened and the results IMPRESSIVE.
Thykecutie, I've tried Chicometrics, Lotte Burke, The Bar Method and Callanetics. All are similiar in the small, precise movements. Of all of them I prefer Callanetics, of course!!, and I enjoy The Bar Method for a change in emphasis. I did Designer Sculpting, one of the only two dvd's for the Bar Method, last night infact. Not as "tough" as Callanetics, but hit different muscles for a nice, complementary workout. Designer Sculpting even uses 3# weights for some nice upper body work.

Just done another hour of Super Callanetics. Managed a few more repetitions than last night. Also slipped in a few exercises I have devised just for men!

Hello all,

If anyone is interested this was posted back in 2003 by Gina Santangelo. She's a Callanetics teacher in Northern NJ. Enjoy! (ok...back to lurking).

My routine/maintance

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi all, I just wanted to make clear my hours that I do each week with the program.

I am in maintenance now. 17 years later I still do 3 hours a week. When I want to tone more or am getting closer to bathing suit season etc. I increase.

I think that many of you are working a bit too hard and the relaxed manner concept is not an option because of the eagerness behind your work. Try not to tense yourself when doing any exercise.

So, I think this is a great week of working out for those trying to tone and lose inches:

Monday, Wednesday, Friday (or any 3 days): blue tape
Tuesday: A half hour to 40 mins walking tape, 20 mins H&B
Thursday: A half hour to 40 mins walking tape, 20 mins Stomach
Saturday: A half hour to 40 mins walking tape, 20 mins Legs
Sunday: Off

If you prefer to do am/pm instead of 20 mins go for it.
Feel free to take any of the Tues, Thurs, Sats off too. Only do what will work for your schedule and what will keep you on instead of off the routine. Choose the 20 min tape that you need most.

If you like your spinning: Spinning is great but, I would do it only 1 x a week right now in place of the walking tape. Only if you love spinning. I would prefer those who have lower back tension to stay away from it completely.

Weights are fine for upper body. If you want to do some. Try to callanetize them. We can talk about that in a chat session.

Which ever tape you do (even if it is not callanetics) you must approach it as a beginner. Take your time to do it correctly with as little tension to the body as possible. This will allow the postural muscles to strengthen properly.

Thank you onaisland and Happiladi!
Thank you for the replies. That helps a great deal.

I plan to do the Callanetics 10/10 hour 2 on Saturday. If I'm not too sore, I'd like to do an hour every other day. If not, I'll do it 2 x per week.

That's my challenge entry. Is that OK?

OH kwildkat,
we were posting at the same time! THANK YOU for this post!!

Thanks for posting this, Kwildcat.

Agnes?????

I'd like your interpretation of this quote, "with as little tension as possible."

Elaborate, please. Pretty please.

Kwildcat--Thanks for sharing that. Slow and steady. That's why I'm doing it only 2x a week and have incorporated other stuff. But I do know that the posts where everyone said relax, relax and relax more makes a big difference.

I'm curious about the weights and callanitizing it. I guess she meant hand weights. Which is interesting because in the book Callan says she tried weights on the legs but her knees swelled up so bad she couldn't exercise for a while.

Man, I have got to get off this board--I am such a slacker today. Can't be good for the peach!!
