But I wanted to share that after leafing through the 10/10 book I borrowed from the library, I'm astounded at Callan's upper body strength. She is doing the open & close (from Super C) hanging from a ladder barre. That is not an easy thing to do and her legs are high! How could she have such superior upper body strength, given that most women have the most strength in their legs , and yet not have any arm exercises except one? Is that one arm exercise all inclusive?
With many exercises you can feel your shoulders getting tired before the muscles you are working on. It's not easy to hold your arms in an angle for a "long time". Other than that, in general, the exercises teach you body control, and give you stamina. Your entire body becomes strong.
I think having strong stomach and thigh muscles are at least as important as how strong the upper body and arms are. One can hang on a bar for ages if she can't lift and hold the legs up.

My wall-bars are on the way!!!

(even though i felt i'd let my hip roll back, i did feel it more in my butt...)

When you sit into the bent knee position for hips and bum, let your foot come up from the floor as you roll your hip forward - don't let your foot drop when rolling forward and hold your ancle straight. As you curl up, your hip will naturally roll back a tiny bit, and your knee will go further as well. After lifting the leg, just try to hold your ancle a bit higher than your knee (your knee is about 3 inches away from the floor). Later on, to intensify the exercise, you can hold your knee a bit higher than the ankle by lifting the knee and turning the kneecup toward the ceiling softly. The more you curl up, the easier it will be. In this case, your foot is pointing down, still don't let it drop.

i liked your earlier suggestion about closing your eyes for the stretches and just using the weight of your body instead of forcing yourself down. i'm actually stretching more by not trying so hard. so that also worked.

Let gravity work!

"breathing" into the leg -- not so much! if i tighten my behind, the leg tightens, too. i'll keep trying.

Try to relax the knees, thighs get involved when you tighten your behind.

i'm in the san francisco bay area, and the closest callanetics teacher seems to be in portland, oregon -- about 600 miles away. but in early june we're planning on driving up the coast, and i'm determined to stop in there for a real lesson. you've inspired me!
I'm sooo jelous!!!

I've just become a mini-Callan pimp (like Marsha!)...I ordered one of the books for my mom!

I am absolutely lovin' Callanetics! I just wish I had found this sooner. It is absolutely the first form of exercise that I actually look forward to...even late in the evening when crawling into bed sounds more appealing.

Callan has even convinced me to put the scale away for a while.

P.S. Being a tall drink of water, I've never had a great bum - maybe you trade long legs for a flat a**! But I'm definitely workin' on this peach, it's visibly rounder and fuller in just a few "hours"!

The stronger the stomach muscles, the lower you will feel the exercises working.

What I must say is that you will not lose any weight doing Callanetics alone. Callanetics will just re-position what you already have, basically tighten & tone. You will lose inches and probably a dress size or two. I would recommend Callanetics along with some kind of cardio activity to get your heart rate up.

Dream, you have no time to feel hopeless. You have the rest of your life ahead of you and you might as well live it feeling & looking great! Sounds like you're ready to take control and get on with the business at hand. You can do it! Just be sure to check in often for advice, support and motivation.

I'm sure others will chime in shortly here.
Callanetics doesn't just re-position what you already have but makes your thighs, calves, waist, arms thinner, lift the butt, thighten the entire body ... as you know. You cannot change your body type, but getting a few sizes smaller and having a tight, powerful body is getting a new body. One can lose more than 1 or 2 dress sizes.

I went to a shop with one of my students as she couldn't wait to see whether she could fit into size 12 jeans. Last time when she was size 12 she was 15 (21 now) - she ended up buying a pair of size 12 jeans. Her body type is endomorph (tends to have wider hips, larger joints, higher ratio of body fat to muscle, and also tends to put on weight easily). We had 26 classes together (usually twice, occasionally only once a week), and she has dropped 2 dress sizes. And she is not stopping now! by the way, she is "Audrey" on my site (10 YEARS YOUNGER IN 10 HOURS | PRIVATE CLASSES AVAILABLE), see photos&measurements.

Dreamchaser,

Starting a healthy diet program, and combining that with 2 hours of Callanetics (Traditional, Evolution, or both varied) along with half an hour cardio Callanetics per week will give you wonderful results! If this weekly workout seems too much at first, don't worry, just exercise as often as possible, or miss the cardio session. You will see how motivated you will get after a very short time. You will get stronger and happier after every hour you do.

Check up on Slimming World (I have held presentations in Slimming World clubs). If you are on a diet program, every pound you lose will look like two!

The weird thing is when I am tired or have been on my feet too long, it is my right hip that aches. I do think I noticed my lower back felt better then the first time I did it. I must have really needed these stretches! I am going to do upper body today also. I have done a couple of BFL challenges, so I will use his routine, since I know it, and it is killer.

Everyone have a great day........lauri
Laurihill,

My advice is to do twice as many repetitions on your weaker side until it picks up - take pictures after every 2nd class. Don't rush counting on your weaker side. Once your left hip looks the same on photos as the right, and if you can, do the same amount of reps on both sides.

If the stomach exercises are killing the neck, you can place your hands under your head holding the elbows outwords. Feeling that your neck gets knackered is normal to begin with. The more you can curl up, the less you will feel the neck pulling. However, RELAX your neck and shoulders at all times!

Hello all,
I am a new member to the site. I have the 10 in 10 video and I have done it a few times, not with consistency. I am getting on the ball and I want to know what other things I should implement into my exercise regimen.

I know I need to change my WOE, but should I do the callanetics three-four times a week and add other cardio exercise for great results?

difference

So... Iīm doing the AM/PM workout, which suits me fine, I like that itīs a bit mixed up and divided in two parts.I used to have all the callanetics tapes but borrowed them out and didnīt get them back... Grrrr...
My question is, does anyone know what is the difference between Am/PM and 10/10? I vaguely recall there is one more leg excercise and two more leg stretches in 10/10... does anyone know for sure?

Thanks for the advice. I just finished hour 3. I could feel that my left hip is getting stronger. Oooops, didn't get any pictures yet. Today.

I will have my second cardio class this evening, so excited! I only have one cardio class per week at the moment, but can't wait to have more students to sign up.

By the way, there is a great article here if you haven't read it yet:
"Lose 10 inches in 10 hours" - by Emma Robertson, MSN Health & Wellbeing
Lose Ten Inches In 10 Hours - http://news.uk.msn.com/rss_todaystopstoriesonmsn.aspx

Ben, I hope to see you soon again!

Water is very very important, and is good for your skin. Drink water all day, before, during and after exercising. Apparently Evian is the most hydrating mineral water.

Also, now that we are talking about drinking, try to replace cow milk with goats milk. If it smells too strong, try it as a banana shake, or with serial. It's very very healthy!

I have read some posts about cellulite. When doing Callanetics, the deep pulses get blood pumped into the muscles, and that results in a distinct improvement of skin texture.

Thanks so much for the reply, i think i will try to drink 3 quarts a day, and also change my cow's milk to goat.

I recommend healthy eating for everybody, and healthy diet for people who would like to drop a few dress sizes. I try to convince my students to exercise twice a week. If somebody is on a weight loss program, every lost pound looks like two!

If I wasn't a teacher, I think I propably would exercise about 3 times a week. When I was doing my training, I did the hour program every second day though as I set up a deadline for toning.

Callanetics is safe and you can do it every day, and the more often you do it, the faster the results! However, if you do the hour program every day, at some point (usually after every 5-8 days) your body will not respond well indicating it needs a break. If you want to exercise every day, my advice is to listen to your body, and have a day rest per week or when it's indicated.

Cardio Callanetics is also available!

I haven't posted in a while. First I got sick, then just busy and then just got out of the habit of exercising. I did keep reading all the posts though and that's helped me get my motivation back so thank you to all of you who have posted and are keeping me inspired. Yesterday I did the exercises from the AM/PM tape and plan to do those or from 10/10 on Tuesday and Thursday of this week. Then I'll do Callanetics again this weekend. My goal is to do the exercises 3 times a week for now. I did download and print out the measurement sheet from Agnes' site and took measurements again. I'll be interested to see my progress. Thanks again to all for keeping me inspired and thanks to those that give tips on how to do the exercises more effectively.

Thank you for responding. I am going to go for it. I will try 5 days and see what happens then. It is easier for me to exercise at night when the kids are asleep. I wake up too late in the mornings to exercise .

I will look into a new eating plan. Do you have any suggestions?
