Poppin quickly to say hey and welcome to all the newbies!

"TCutie, I want those gloves!" she exclaims in jealous rage!

Freein, you're disappearing right before our eyes!

Very cool about the session with Teach! That woman losing that much weight with Callan alone....awesome!

Ben, I have been doing the 1,2,3 4 counting since you first mentioned it. Good tip.

Today was Turbo Jam and a few targeted training areas.

Back to Super tomorrow.

Later, guys.

I ordered my DVD from Amazon Saturday. I can't wait for it to get here! I have been so inspired by you all who are in this challenge. I look at your pics over and over and think that I can do this!
I am doing a weight loss challenge with 9 people that I work with. We started 2/21 and will go until 5/21. The one who loses the biggest % of weight wins $450.00!
I'm doing 3+ miles 5-6 days a week on my treadmill. I am actually liking it, but can't wait to get my Callanetics DVD. Thanks for the inspiration!!

It's an upper body day for me which is weights.
But I wanted to share that after leafing through the 10/10 book I borrowed from the library, I'm astounded at Callan's upper body strength. She is doing the open & close (from Super C) hanging from a ladder barre. That is not an easy thing to do and her legs are high! How could she have such superior upper body strength, given that most women have the most strength in their legs , and yet not have any arm exercises except one? Is that one arm exercise all inclusive?

Don't see how it could be. But maybe I'm missing something here.

That's why I do upper body weights in addition to Callanetics. I love a strong upper body!

Thanks for getting back to me. My arms have always been weak. I can't lift them up for long, which sucks if DH is asking for help..."can you hold this board here, up above your head, while I go find my hammer"

Agnes gave me two corrections. For the first hips and behind exercise (with the leg bent) she corrected the position of my foot in relation to my knee. Try experimenting to find what is right for you. I had my foot kind of pointing up in the air which felt natural as my hip was rolled forward. But if you let your foot go down closer to the floor (without leting your hip go) then it seems to make it work much deeper. Does that make sense? I actually find that exercise a challenge now which I never used to.
With the second exercise (with the leg straight out to the side) Agnes got me to roll my leg over even more than i thought I could. It made it so much harder which was great!
Let me know if that helps.
ben, thank you for the tips; i wanted to wait to try them once or twice before reporting.

for the straight-leg exercise, i tried rolling my leg over even more, and that did work; i definitely felt it. for the bent-leg exercise, i have to admit that i'm stumped on that one; i can't seem to let my foot go down without my hip rolling back. are you saying that your lower leg is still parallel to the floor but your foot is drooping or pointing down, or is your lower leg actually angling down? (even though i felt i'd let my hip roll back, i did feel it more in my butt...)

i liked your earlier suggestion about closing your eyes for the stretches and just using the weight of your body instead of forcing yourself down. i'm actually stretching more by not trying so hard. so that also worked.

"breathing" into the leg -- not so much! if i tighten my behind, the leg tightens, too. i'll keep trying.

i'm in the san francisco bay area, and the closest callanetics teacher seems to be in portland, oregon -- about 600 miles away. but in early june we're planning on driving up the coast, and i'm determined to stop in there for a real lesson. you've inspired me!

WOW! If you go to the studio in Oregon you'll have a class with Judy Mooser. She's the one who trains all the Callanetics teachers! You won't get any better advice than from her.

As far as the bent-leg exercise goes it sounds to me like you are holding much too much tension in your body. It takes time to learn how to relax. I'm not sure how else to explain it. Maybe I shouldn't have said 'foot'. Maybe think of your bent leg as one fixed unit that can only rotate in the hip socket. Now, you've rolled that hip forward and curled your pelvis up. There should still be room for a little rotation in the hip socket. See if you can rotate it out a little. This will take your foot closer to the floor. Have I totally confused you now?

7th hour completed tonight.

Zinny, thanks for your tips. I lowered my legs just like you said tonight which seem to work my abs more. I'm going to have to work my way up to holding that start position for a while. I usually lay on the floor watching Callan until I see that counter starting then I jump into position and start doing the abs work

Questions for all the ladies?

Does Callanetics tone you up enough to get rid of some cellulite?(some b4 and after photos show a little of this)

Anyone who had a c-section, Does Callanetics help flatten the lower abs?

My abs feel really strong but I think because of my c-section Im having hard trouble toning the lower abs. I hope this helps

i didn't recognize the name, but i looked her up and wow is right! judy mooser is 67, she's a national master teacher, and she looks fantastic. and she didn't even start callanetics until she was 51.

yup, tension is my middle name; when i was a kid my siblings would throw shoes at me because my teeth-grinding kept them awake at night. but i think i understand you better now about the bent leg; there is some play there. i'll try it again tomorrow. i'm thinking it looks something like when callan says "at first you'll probably want to do it like this, this is fine" and her foot is definitely lower than her knee.

i'm feeling much zippier about this vacation now, even though sitting for hours in the car is utterly bun-numbing...
