How did we all do this weekend? I didn't do anything Thurs/Fri, but played some rugby and danced it out over the weekend, hopefully that'll count for something . Ran today, we're doing a 5K walk/run in a couple weeks, so I tried that out on the treadmill...40 minutes was the time - it's a start, and glad I ran the first mile nonstop!

Hi Aija! I think dancing definitly qualifies as exercize. I did some on Saturday night and was feeling it on Sunday I splurged a tiny bit last night at chili's. Doesn't seem to have messed me up though.

Lisa where are you?

Ooooh, I love Chili's! I love the fajitas and thair black bean burgers - delish!

Ran last night after class - made the 5K a few seconds shorter - minor victories!

Trying not to look at the scale for now!

Hey - what do you guys think about the whole "too much cardio is no good" thing? I mean, I think 2 hours a day isn't all that great, but there's nothing wrong with 45 minutes or so a day, right? I even stumbled upon an article (I HATE that there are so many articles saying completely different things, btw) that said that as women burn more calories, their bodies try harder to conserve calories - maybe that's only in cases where women workout like crazy and don't eat enough, though.

I'm telling myself, though, that at the end of the day, my body knows that 246 pounds isn't a healthy weight, and I do eat at least 1500 calories a day, so 45 minutes of cardio a day should be nothing but good. Because on the OTHER side of the coin (damn articles) there was a study that showed that a lot of women who exercised more tended to eat more...blerg!

Sorry for the ramble - all the diet talk in the air just gets to me sometimes! Bottom line is that I did 3 miles yesterday and the day before and I feel it in my legs and I feel great! THIS IS WHAT A RUNNER LOOKS LIKE!

Aija~I find all the conflicting articles annoying too. I have changed up my workout a bit this last month and for me it really really works. I am noticing much more drastic changes in my body. I do Turbo sculpt 2 days a week with five pound weights, yoga sculpt 2 times a week and I throw ab jam and callanetics in 2 days each. My cardio comes from walking. My son and I walk every where (he is in a stroller )

I think everyone's body is different and do whatever works for you and makes you feel better. How much strength training/weights do you do?

That sounds good, stacey!

I definitely need to fit in more strength training/core work - I try to do a little each day - abs/free weights, but maybe 2-3 times a week I'll throw in a serious strentgh session or take a class.

Last night was my rest day - so I did abs and some floor exercises at home. My mom just joined my gym, so now I have a buddy! We're gonna do yoga on Tuesday nights - very exciting!

Haha, I bet it's a peaceful escape

Did 5K on the treadmill yesterday, and a little corework, abs and a set of bicep curls - my trainer showed me to curl your bicep as you're stepping up on a platform thing - makes it harder, so I did that.

Today I did treadmill work with intentions of 5K, but a man got on the machine next to me...first I smelled too much cologne, then I smelled the WORST gym-stink ever! As in "these are the clothes I always wear to the gym without washing them or myself" barf! So I had to blow off that machine, and got on the elliptical for a brief yet intense 10 minutes. Then I did the arm machines, and was on my merry way.

Trying to keep it up!

Too funny , Aija! I have had that problem before. I used to be in the Army, and men out number the women. I swear at PT (physical training) in the Am we had everyday, some of them wouldn't even brush their teeth. Gross!! Anyway, those bicep curls sound interesting. You just step up on a block with one leg and then curl?

Oh man...toddler+dentist...I can only imagine! How do you like Turbo Jam? The infomercials make it look awesome!

Yeah - you can use the Reebok Step thing, or there's this stand that's about a foot off the ground and reminds me of the stool they have at the circus for the ringmaster (heh, some imagination), but with 2 8 to 12lb dumbbells, you step up onto the thing with one foot, then curl, then un-curl, then step down. Then you do a set using the other leg to step up. And whenever I step up, the other leg can pretty much do what it wants, usually it just hangs around Hope that makes sense. I'm trying to work on things to do for strength training - I have tons of ideas in Women's Health and the other mags, but sometimes I'm too embarrassed to do them (who knows why).

I stink at strength training...too intimidated to use the cool machines, don't have enough ideas for arms, and usually don't want to do legs because I feel like running takes care of legs. So every time I'm there, I try to push myself to try a machine or spend a little extra time with freeweights. Baby steps.

That's awesome, Aija! I have always been a bit intimidated at the gym. I like doing things in my home Thanks for the idea for bicep curls. I am going to try them out later today. BTW, I love Turbo Jam. The instructor, chalene, isn't one of those annoying girls that you want to smack in the first five minutes huge plus for me.

LowCarbSleepyToast, you sound alot like me. I too, need motivation to get out there and excercise - I can't afford a gym membership, and I also live near a walking/biking trail. Right now I do a combination of walking and jogging, which I learned from About.com. It seems to be working - i actually ENJOY it somewhat. The one thing I struggle with is whether to do it early in the morning or in the evening.

So, how have you been doing lately with your excercise goals?

Thanks lisa! I hope that you have an easier time getting back in the swing of things. Just start slowly. Maybe do you callanetics at night? You said that it has a way of relaxing you at night. Can't hurt to try

I was out kinda late last night so didnt get in the Callan

BUT this AM I tried a new DVD from Netflix -Gilad's Ab workout. It was OK, but I was surprised I made it through all 3 segments (Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced) Either I'm in alot better shape than I thought, or this DVD was just easy What do you guys recommend for ABs? That is prolly my worst area (although I have many LOL)

I do ab jam. It is part of the turbo Jam series. That one kicks my butt. My abs were totally burnt out when I first started to do it. They still hurt now, but at least I don't have difficulty mvoing afterwards...hahha! I want to find some new tapes. I love to change it up. I now have my collection in the 50s. One of my friends wanted to get rid of a bunch of hers, so I took them all. Mainlt they are yoga and some Tai chi. Want to find something that has strength/weight training.
