Well I spent most of last week trying to recover from a 3 day boot camp I went to with some friends. I think i would have DIED if I hadn't started this program. I have absolutely no upper body strength and it was embarrassing lol. I got back into the swing of things today with my W9D1 run. I decided to run around my neighborhood and I guess I never realized that I live on a hill! Everything was uphill/downhill and I could barely finish. My gosh that was hard, but I finished it.

I yam the Arctic Warrior!

All summer long, I told myself that I'd have much better times in the fall, that I wouldn't get dehydrated and wouldn't have to worry about the constant stream of sweat into my eyes...

Be careful what you wish for!

We had a "red flag day" in Georgia here yesterday, meaning low humidity but constantly high winds (about 30 mph)...and I went out running in that.

It was 44 degrees out and I was not used to running at that temperature...add in the wind and it made for a thoroughly unenjoyable running experience.

I did three miles but it was an effort. Kept thinking that I'd have gone a lot faster had it not been for the wind.

Ouch - we have your weather here today and I was going for W5D2 this afternoon. We have mid 40s and high winds (30-50 mph) - UGH!

Quick post/update...been swamped lately, and no time to post.

I decided to go for a run this morning -- versus my typical night runs -- and it went well, even in the frigid temps. WJack, I hadn't considered that the colder air should be factored into how well we handle our runs, esp when we've been use to warmer temps.

The colder air in the past few runs, coupled with my bronchial issues, have kept me struggling.

This morning, to my delight, I had a very good run! It was 32 degrees out, but I had on layers and gloves, and I made sure I was hydrated and fueled (a Detour bar and 1/4 c of Cheerios) before the run. I ran at 5:45 a.m. Ran for a solid 35 mins, a new record for me. I chose the WRONG gloves, however, and had it not been for my excruciatingly cold fingers and my VERY RUNNY nose, I probably could have gone longer.

Next time I'll need to find better gloves and just take the time to deal with my nose as needed. I may try doing 2 of my 3 runs in the mornings from now on. My energy was good, and I get the workout over with early -- which is always a good thing.

Alissa, I'll have to check out World Run when I get back to the boards with more time.....gotta get back at it....

later on

Thanks to WJack's post I decided not to go run in the 45 mph winds and waited a day. I went last night and completed W5D2 and felt fantastic. I did have 25 mph winds and had to run against them on my way back - what a workout! I can't believe I'm really starting to like this but I'm petrified of my 20 minute run coming up!

Love the glove talk.

Over the weekend I went for a bike ride. It was prob 40 out but windy...afterwards I heard wind chill temps reached the teens

My hands were freezing and I decided then that I aint skimping on gloves. I couldnt do a thing while trying to constantly battle cold hands.

Definately gonna search for some good ones.

Maybe my wool choppers I use for snowblowing!!!

(Alissa, I LOVE Week 8's music...!)

Okay. Got in my third run for the week this morning.

Observations:

No enough fuel/carbs, not enough rest.

I ran for a solid 28 mins this time and then was forced to stop and recover for a minute before finishing up with two more minutes of runnning, then a five-minute recovery.

It was not quite as cold this morning, but still cold enough. Better gloves, but not the best. New gloves are on my shopping list.

My pre WO meal was 248 cals, 31 carbs, and that apparently was not enough. I didn't enter it in Fitday, just got up, had coffee, ate the pre w/o meal, then ran. I had only had 6 hours of sleep last night. WHo am I kidding? Wonderwoman I'm not, and I'm only shooting myself in the foot by slighting myself on sleep and adequate fuel for workouts.

I have this mega agenda today, and I got up early and at it to try to get it all accomplished. But taking care of my body has to be on the top of the list if I expect to continue making progress with my fitness goals.

Regardless, I feel good, the run felt great, and I've had muscle milk and a protein/carb post-WO meal....ready to move down that list and get it done today.

Are you listening to DJ Beatsmith from Podrunner or the Ullrey ones?

It is nice to have a mix up, I have been making my own mixes for the longer runs...problem is that when a cool song comes on I just want to keep running...so I have to change my cool down song to a less inspiring one

I joined your Callanetics challenge! Kelley has me converted!

W8 D1

I did it...ran longer...started early in the warm up song and ran through my cool down song so it was more like a 30-35 min run...40-45 mins total (inc warm up and cool down) I was so close to the 4 mile mark, I just kept going... I love the freedom running has given me!

My Christian Rock really does inspire me to run...amazing ...every now and again the music moves me to sprint a lap...it feels OH SO good!!

Happy day to you all...5 more runs till c25k graduation!!!

Kelley, try doing the Callan stretching segments after EVERY run, and esp after a workout like HHA TBB (killer). Your muscles are tight, and they need to stretch, lenthen, relax. You can't beat the Callan stretching for this. Just cannot.

Ditto, Alissa.

I've found that to be true every single time I go out.

Good job on the run!

I've gotten in two good runs this week. I've learned to listen to my body more, my breathing, pacing, etc. It's helped tremendously.

My first 5K is tomorrow and I must say I am getting jittery. I haven't run much in the past 10 days or so. My son had an accident (he is OK now, but I spent a lot of time going to drs for awhile), then it rained for days and now its just about dark when I get home. I'm sure I can finish, but I don't want to have to walk or be last.

Its great to see everyone posting their progress and enjoying running!

I have the worst luck in the world. I went on vacation and ended up breaking my foot lol. The only run I had left was my graduation run! Can you believe that?? So I have been sidelined big time. The good news is that I have been working on my upper body strength.

So my question is....
Have any of you taken an extended time off from running? If so, was it hard to get back in the swing or do you start where you left off?
