Welcome, Meatpea! Glad that first run went well for ya.

I'm anxious to resume my schedule, but I'm fighting bronchial problems, so until this subsides, I know I'm not gonna have the air I need to get me through it. Going to doc today.

It's funny how you can get addicted to this so easily!

Trivia for the day!

Every 10 pounds you lose should improve your 5K time by one minute.

Coconut water sounds good too.

I had a good second-to-last run of OHR tonight. I found............ TEN sand dollars! Usually a good day is three. I think I would have found more, but there were three little old ladies in front of me with a bag. Luckily, old ladies are slow so I passed them and started getting first dibs.

Don't tell anyone, but running is really just a front for my sand dollar operation. Why else would a grown woman with children, a home and a job be spending 6+ hours at the beach every week? And, if I run I can cover more ground and pass the competition. Ssshhhh

I hope you feel better soon Twyla.

Congrats on the great run myanv. You are almost a graduate!
Gina, I'm sooo jealous. It is my dream to live on the beach. Have fun finding those sand dollars

Now I start working on speed. My 5K is in 4 weeks.

I tried a gel this morning and it didn't work too well for me. I broke out in a cold sweat about 20 min in and I was shaky on the way home. All I could find was a Power Bar brand, maybe others are better. I did take it on a completely empty stomach. For the carb count I could have a cup of OJ. Oh well, I tried it. I had a protein shake when I got home and evened out. I had bacon, eggs and avocado for brunch/lunch later.
Gina, Those gel packets never agreed with me. When I walked my first 1/2 marathon is when I decided to try them and boy was I sick. I love the PB and it doent' mess my tummy up and you can usually find the little packets to take along.

I've also heard for every pound you lose you take four pounds of pressure off your knees - I've taken 100 pounds of pressure off my knees since late July!

Hey Susan, Looks like we are on the same scheduled. I live in FL so not worried about the cold...just the heat here. Right now I am running on a treadmill (really do to not having to worry about finding a sitter for my dd2). The treadmill can get BORING. I have my right next to the window...so I feel like I am a little outside. Then I always have my favorite music...this is a must. Last when I really start to get bored with it, I will watch a talk show or something interesting I have recorded on the DVR. Anyways maybe something like that might help if/when you get stuck indoors. KUTGW

week 1, day 2

Well, I finished the 2nd day. My knee was slightly sore towards the end but nothing too bad. I think that I just need better shoes. An advil before bed should fix me right up. Also, due to a meeting I won't be able to do day 3 until Saturday so, I will have an extra couple days of rest!

Shoes can make a world of difference. Rest is good too. No better way to ruin a good start than an injury.

I did my first pavement run today- 3 miles. It was faster (not sinking in the sand), but harder on my ankles and shins. It's about 10 degrees warmer in the neighborhood than on the beach and I did not dress for it. I also had hills to contend with. I wound up much more tuckered out at the end than my usual beach run, but it felt good.

Kelly, it was our dream to live at the beach too until two years ago. One day DH realized he works for the state and I'm a teacher. We just need a place where there are kids and highways and we can live there. Now, the cost of housing... , but its worth it.

Hi guys, I just got back from W4D3 and i feel great! Love this feeling. I'm ready for Week 5 - at least the first 2 days - a little scared of that 20 minute run on the third!

Kelley,

It's good to see that positive feel-good post from your run! Great job! And I too remember fearing the 20 min runs, but somehow, it just happens. Go figure! You can do it.

My doc prescribed a couple different meds on Monday for my bronchitis. She told me it could take up to a month or more to be totally free of the symptoms, however. It has gotten MUCH better, but I'm still fighting the coughs.

My running has taken a dive. My last run, Monday, I could barely make 22 mins, then walked the rest of the time. Just not enough air.

I felt pretty good this evening, so I went for it again. Tonight I made it to 28 mins. I was pleased. It will all come together. I'm making sure I'm getting more rest and plenty of fluids.

I shared this video clip with Gina earlier this week, but I want to place it here for those of us struggling with stamina, choosing the right number of carbs for our personal WOE's, and getting the rest we need. Jillian Michaels addresses these concerns in this clip. It's a keeper.

Don't worry about it Twyla, the road will still be there when you feel better.

Hey, that reminds me of a great thing I saw in a movie the other day. It was What Women Want with Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt. They are ad execs working on a campaign for Nike. Near the end they show the commercial they make about running and its great! I had seen the movie before and liked it, but I wasn't a runner then so it didn't mean much. Its really for the gals.

The carb video is very interesting. Well worth a watch.

T - thanks so much. I'm a little sore today, but you know, the good kind of sore.

I'm so sorry you have bronchitis - that is a killer. Just make sure to take it easy and get your rest otherwise you will end up with pnemonia (sp?). I did a few years ago and was laid up for 2 weeks. Take Care T

Thanks for the great info on carbs - you are a wealth of knowledge

Morning all! Just checking in real quick to say hi! Gonna do my run this afternoon; had an early meeting today so couldn't get it done before work. At least the sun is back out and the temps won't be as cold today. Just don't enjoy running in the freezing weather.... See y'all later...

Ouch

Pride goeth before a fall....

I'm a big ole C25K graduate, ran my first 5K last Sat.

Decided I was going to start working on my speed this week, now that I know that I can do a 5K.

Went out yesterday and ran (not jogged) 1 mile. Tough, but I did it.

welllll....today I decided that since I was "in shape" now after jogging for the past 12 weeks, I could go run on consecutive days.

Bad decision. I made it a paltry 1/2 mile and my hips (!!!) and thighs were screaming in agony...major lactic acid burn. I had to completely stop...how mortifying.

I learned a lesson, though: It's going to take a while to get results, and I shouldn't be so impatient.

No reason to be mortified. Now if you had just graduated, run your race and then QUIT, that's reason to be mortified.

Now, for mortifying... I ran three miles today in somewhere more than 45 minutes (I shut my watch off). In my defense, I was running in the sand and my footsteps were an inch deep, but still, yikes.

I sure will be glad when the tide is out in the evenings again.

I started a new training program I found on CoolRunning to try to improve my speed now that I finished OHR and it has me doing back to back runs. I'll do my first one tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Haven't posted in a while...feel like since I'm not low carbing anymore I shouldn't post...(went back to Nutrisystem for the carbs, can't add some without going bonkers with it, but can eat per the NS guidelines w/o any problems, go figure). Anyhow, I've been running intervals similar to the earlier weeks of C25K for 3-4 days per week, then a couple of days running distance (don't laugh, distance for me is 2.5 miles-lol). Just wanted to touch base even if I'm a low-carb sinner...

Laurakitty, congratulations on the 25 minute run!

Grandmoo, no need to stay away. If NS works for you, more power to you. We all have to do what works for us and most of us are different. I eat a lot more carbs now that I run.

Twyla, I've read your workout schedule. I don't think you need to be shamed into action. But if you ever do, remember I teach elementary school. I am a master at the "teacher look" and "You know better than that, don't you? I'm very disappointed, but I know you'll do better next time."
