Okay. No drum rolls for me tonight.

Only a big, loud gong.

It was Week 9, Day 1. I crashed and burned: No air, no energy, CRAPPY MUSIC (WTH????), and just an overall not-the-best kind of night.

DO OVER! DO OVER!

Sooooooooo... when I schedule my next run (likely will have to be Saturday), I'll be ready this time (ditto, Mya). I'll have fueled up, rested up, and I'll be listening to Week 8 again and just adding two extra minutes to it from my own tunes.

(I've already deleted Week 9's podcast off my player. That is just horrible music! What a waste.)

Welcome back TJ. Mya, congrats on showing DBF how it's done!

I was not a fan of that music either. As soon as I stopped needing the intervals I switched to my own stuff.

Wall, you are doing great. I love to see anyone who wasn't a runner become one. I really don't let the speed thing get to me much. I'm miles ahead (literally ) of where I was a few months ago and going in the other direction from the sedentary, probably sick and uncomfortable future I was headed for.

I stayed home from work yesterday to take DS15 to the dentist and after we got home I went to the running store and bought new shoes. They measured my feet all kinds of ways, watched me walk, watched me run and I wound up with some shoes that felt great in the store and around the house, but were not very comfortable when I went out to run tonight. I think something might be wrong with the R foot, cause the L feels fine. I'll probably take them back tomorrow.

Twyla, my run was not-so-super tonight either. I had a case of the "lead legs" and was out of breath right away. And I was much slower than Sunday. I just did my scheduled 36 mins and walked another 30 or so to get back.

On the brighter side, the sunset was beautiful and I found three sand dollars ( bye, bye touristas).

Thanks WMS and GME

I'm with ya on the music for week 9 too. What a waste and uninspiring. I'd rather listen to fingernails on a chalkboard for 30 minutes.

Its back to walking for me for awhile now as I heal my knee. Good luck to everyone

OH! Wanted to add. When I know I have a run like that scheduled. (Distance run) I make SURE to carb up 2 - 3 hrs before with a favorite energy bar type product. Then hydrate up to about 15 minutes before. Those with potty issues might have to adjust but thats what works for me. Fueling properly is the way Ive been able to not bonk out.

Hi Gina - WoW you and others here really inspire me. I'm writing because of your comment about lead legs - I did my W2D3 run on Monday and felt like my body was heavy and my legs were made of lead. Is this normal? I almost didn't do the last 90 sec run because I was so uncomfortable. Should I just push through and start W3D1 or do week 2 over again? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Kelley, I echo what Wall said, and many of us here seem to agree, that planning a pre-workout carb snack or meal really does make a difference in our energy/endurance. Some people don't need it, but I've proven to myself -- more than once -- that I'm one who does. I have to wonder if it's because I stay in a semi-depleted state due to my workout schedules, and I need those extra carbs as a result. Likely.

As for my being human? ARE YOU KIDDING ME, GIRRRRL? You should read my journal when you get bored. You'll find many instances of crash-n-burn moments throughout. I'm not nearly as invinicible as I'd like to think!

Gina, I'll bet you have quite the collection of sand dollars...I once found a bunch of baby sand dollars, so cute!

W9D1: Graduation week!

3 miles at an awkward pace. Felt great, no "dead legs" today for the entire run but I was favoring the knee I fell on last Sunday. Side note: Dire Straits' "Industrial Disease" is an excellent song to pace yourself, but Dire Straits' "Walk of Life" is an awful song for pacing!!

p.s. Twyla, I had significant carbs prior to running today, they did wonders for my endurance.

Woooohoooo, Wolfman! Go on!

(About the tunes, did you mean those are on Week 9's podcast? I turned it off after about 17 mins, it was so horrible I couldn't stand it any longer....but I happen to like Dire Straits)

And yes, I hear you loud, clear and long on the carbs thing. When I began my run last night, I had only had like 25 net carbs ALL DAY, and most of those were early in the day. But when I began the run, I wasn't "hungry," so I thought, hey, I'm a big, strong girl....I can do this w/o the carbs.

DEAD WRONG.

When I get the lead legs, I just plow on (albeit slowly) and vow to plan better next time.

I did repeat runs of C25K. If you feel like your W2D3 was a fluke (maybe you didn't eat or drink enough, didn't sleep, etc) I would probably move on. If you feel like you just aren't quite ready, repeat that run. I don't think I ever went back and started a week over, I would just stay with that particular run until I felt like I ould move on.

Twyla, I have always been amazed by your workout schedule too.

I was in such a rush this morning that I didn't eat breakfast and that KILLED my run. I felt lifeless on the track. They were holding the "senior olympics" at the park this morning. It was amazing to see these elderly people blowing by the youngins(me included). The good news is that now I know the trail is officially a 5k trail. That is the event they were running. I have already completed the 5k without even knowing it! I think my best time is somewhere around 26 minutes.

Well, since you asked....

You and I decided to do our "graduation run" together.

You met me at the trail where I do most of my runs, you were wearing these cute white running shorts.....and carrying a machine pistol. I asked why, and you said "protection". Oh.

So we went down the trail at the crack of dawn, and you kept squeezing off a shot every now and then at some perceived movement in the bushes nearby..squirrels, chipmunks, etc. And every time you fired a shot, you turned to me and whispered "protection".

(I am sure Freud would have a field day with this one!!)

Yes, Freud would have his homework to do!

It's funny how bits and pieces of our lives, relevant or not, somehow end up in our dreams !

The graduation run, I get that.
I get the trail.
The gun? Is that because I shared the story of my shooting the "dachsund missile" with pepper spray when he tried to bite me?
Do the squirrels stand for the skunks that spooked me one night on my run?

Too funny, Wolfman!

Hi guys, I know a few of you mentioned you didn't like some of the week's music from the Ullrey podcast. Someone turned me on to this website for different podcasts. From glancing they have a podcast for 5K, 8K, and 10K. If someone already shared sorry for the repeat!

I had an interesting realization running with my kids yesterday.....

I remember a day about a year ago. I was at Costco, unloading my groceries and stuff into the car. I lost hold of the basket and it was rolling away toward other cars. I ran to catch it (jogged or trotted really), not more than 20 or 30 feet probably, and when I caught it I was out of breath. OUT OF BREATH in just a few yards! How sad is that?

Well yesterday I was at PE, runing along, chatting with my entourage, and realized we had run a lap (1/4 mile) and I felt like I hadn't done anything. Not out of breath, tired.... nothing. I could have been walking in the mall.

It felt pretty good.
