GH, a couple of years ago I had tried the running thing, and I work out early too. It was during those dark, eery hours of my morning run that I was "attacked by a DASCHUND missile," teeth baring, growling, and then nipped my ankle, at which time I sprayed his *ss with pepper spray, and took off running like the wind (he'd been chasing/barking in attack mode for a few weeks every single morning). His owner, pissed that I sprayed his precious baby (right!), gets in his truck and proceeds to stalk me as I'm running. I was so stessed out from being nipped on the ankles, now the stalking, finally got home and called law enforcement. L/E told the guy he was lucky I didn't use the pepper spray on his *ss, and told him to keep his dog leashed if he knew what was good for him.

Fast-forward the story, I've not been by that house -- morning or night -- since then, and that jerk STILL lets that animal run unleashed.

So that is why I choose NOT to run in the wee hrs of the morning this go-round.

Hope the treadmill works out for you.

It's been so hot here of late that I tried something different this morning and got on the road before the sun rose. I had a bit of trouble seeing things like potholes and curbs too, and was surprised my jogging had really slowed down (50 fewer calories burned...nuts).

In any event, W2D3 is in the books....on to Week 3!!

Week 8 day 1 last night. I wont lie, that was tough.
I have not had any proper rest or diet for days and it showed, forcing me to stop and catch my breath/walk at around the 18 minute mark then pick it back up again after about a minute or so.

(both of my kids in the hospital the past 2 weeks)

With last night telling me I need some recovery, Ill regroup and do better the next time.

OMG what a jerk!

I have two dachshund missles. Neither one of them would bite (and one is too lazy to even chase someone ) and I would STILL never let them out loose. I don't even let them out in the yard when people are out because it's annoying when they bark. I cannot stand people who let their dogs sit outside and bark nonstop for the hearing enjoyment of their neighbors!

That's scary! Now I am going to be wondering what is out there that I can't see tomorrow morning, lol.

Okay. I did NOT do as well tonight.

The surface of the track at the HS was like an inferno. You could almost see the heatwaves emanating into the air. The surface is GREAT for my joints/knees, but the HEAT!!!!

Whine, whine, whine. ENuf already, Twyla.

No more excuses.

Next run scheduled for Saturday, and I'm going to run in our subdivision again and wait for this heatwave to let up before going back to the track.

But I won't be going near "Daschund Missile." I can think of more interesting options for foreplay.

Thanks for the input! I'm glad I didn't leap ahead to week 2. I finished W1D3 this morning, feeling good each day! And quite importantly, did feel like I got a workout (I did a long walk after each), establishing the good habit of going in the morning etc. On the off days I did long walks and callanetics.

I'm taking the weekend off but will be back for Week 2 next week!

BTW, it has been beautiful weather each day...I'm not sure what my backup plan is going to be when it rains (I don't have a treadmill or a gym membership). What do you guys do, run in the rain? Use a rebounded? Wait an extra day for the weather to clear?

I completed my 20 minute run today....it wasn't stellar because I am indeed a turtle, but I ended up doing 25 minutes so I feel good about that! I haven't told anyone in my family that I am doing this program, because I thought I would have quit by now... Can't believe it....got her done!!!

Since I prefer solitude (and I run alone and in the dark!) I purchased a Gymboss to help time the intervals between walking and running. It's pretty slick.

Week 3 Day 1

W3D1 is history! Yay me!

Another maddening day with zero weight loss. I did exceed my calorie threshold for the first time in two weeks yesterday, mainly because I listened to my body (specifically my tender left knee) and took a complete day off from exercise...no jogging, walking, just a day of rest.

W3D1 was my first pair of 1/4 mile jogs. First one was straight uphill (surprisingly not too tough!) Calves were aching but I tried something knew...I tool longer strides and made a conscious effort to land my foot 100% on my heel...it worked!

I'm not losing weight but I'm learning a few things about my body. For instance, my heart rate is always 8-10 beats higher on uphill inclines. I know I am getting in better shape because during recovery walks between jogs my heart rate used to decline from around 140 to 130 and now it immediately rolls back down from 140+ to around 118. Progress!!

We had the remnants of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Fay hit us this morning so I ran in a cool refreshing rain. I love jogging in the rain!

Also on the long downhills my jogging shorts began to fall down off my hips. My hips/butt have zero fat on them but they appear to be shrinking nonetheless!

Hello Everyone

I just started this program on tuesday and I am so sore! When I first started losing weight I couldnt even run at all. So im excited to finally be able to do this.

I feel Like I want to run again today but the program says to rest. Would I mess it up by running 4 or 5 days instead of 3 days like the program says?

1) What week/day are you on? Week 1, Day 3
2) Are you repeating a week? No
3) Are you running for time or distance? Time
4) Are you running indoors or out?outdoors (in the las vegas heat )
5) How do you feel?Wonderful! Even though I can BARELY make the times, I don't give up.

I am learning this cycling thing. My problem seems to be that I have trouble getting the calories that I am supposed to get. I am not doing any specific diet other than calorie counting and cycling. You can go to free dieting dot com and get a range based on your stats.

The Daily plate is a bit like fitday, but I like it better. It seems easier to use to me, that could be me. It has over 400,000 foods preloaded in, and you can add recipes or meals as well as well as regular items. You set you daily calorie goal, or it will set one for you. I like it, you should check it out. It is free, although you can become a gold member, and have other features. I use the free account. My daughter and husband also use it. It is an easy way for me to keep up with it. I was food journaling in a ww book, but finally stopped that and now just use the daily plate. I do log my daily calories into a spreadsheet (not everything I eat, just the total), so that I can look back at each day, weeks at a time to see if a pattern is developing. I have been cycling about 3 weeks now, but have not gotten it down to an art yet. I am getting better. There is a group on the daily plate that I joined for information, etc.

Check it out!

Day 2 week 8 update:

I freekin did the 28 min nonstop

but wait then i decided it was time i actually measured the distance i'm running. Yup, Ive never really known the entire time how long Ive been running...

so hot/sweaty/sore/tired me jumped in the truck and clocked it

from the elementary school where I started, down that road, turn left and then i follow it back around the corner and turn around...

drumroll please

basically its 2.8/2.9 miles

Thats it!! thats about 2 blocks away from a 5k 3.1 mile loop

I got stride issues I think too wolfy, my knee is constantly sore. Next time I go buy shoes, I'm hitting a running store specifically and get the evaluation. It totally sucks to live hurt all the time. Well, not hurt, but sure is sore constantly.

On a personal note, my daughter is dealing with a serious issue and I appreciate the well wishes. Everyone keep up the positivity and take care of yourself.

W1D3 was yesterday morning...I hit the ground running (actually walking/running!) at 5:00am and didn't get home from a meeting until 9:30 last night so I was exhausted.

My 3rd day went ok...it's a bit better but I don't know that I am ready to move on. I guess we will know Monday.

That is awesome about your distance/time wall! I will get there someday.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Sounds like everybody is making GREAT progress, folks!

MY TURN!

Guessssssssssssss what?

I ran my first 20 solid minutes tonight!

I began with 6 mins walk (I was singing to myself with my MP3 player and lost track of time), then began running.

Planned to run 5 mins, then recover for 3, run for 10-15, however long I could go, and then wing the rest of it.

I began running and at 10, then 12, then 13, then 16.....SHE'S STILL GOING, FOLKS!!!!!!!!!

I probably could have run beyond 20, but I recovered for the next 3 minutes, then ran another 6 minutes, then recovered the rest of the time with brisk walk, for a total of 39 minutes.

I'M PUMPED, PEOPLE!!!!!!

Thanks Psigna for the info... I checked out the daily plate and it is an interesting site... I plugged in my numbers and it said I needed to consume 1800 calories a day to drop two pounds a week.... That figure sounds high to me or is it just that I'm always eating too little...maybe that is the problem.... I think I will give the calorie cycling a whirl and see how it goes... I think I will go to freedieting.com and plug my numbers in there and see what I get... Well this is what I got....interesting...Maintenance: 2199 Calories/day
Fat Loss: 1760 Calories/day
Extreme Fat Loss: 1760 Calories/day

Congrats to everyone for completing their runs... I know how terrific it feels to be able to finish and still have some energy left lol... On to next week....
