Tonight will be D3W1 for me. I'm still a little sore but I had the last 2 days off, so I have decided that's enough (although I did walk only on Monday). I'm still certain that I will be repeating week 1. I'll be trying this on flatter ground tonight. I had done this the last 2 times in an area of a park with some mild hills.

Part of the challenge of starting/re-starting running is that your body has to get used to the impact of running. Being overweight just adds to the impact. The aerobic aspect isn't as bad; that will just come with time.

What I found helped me was to do the entire program on the treadmill. Yes, it's a little on the boring side, but the TM has a more forgiving surface. Another option is to find a flat trail in the woods or a grass field. Once my body got used to that, then I started running a little bit on the road.

Just a thought.

Just finished W1D2....and I feel great! I'm really enjoying this so much more the 2nd time around. The podcast makes a big difference.

Looking forward to my Friday run! (Can't believe I just wrote that.... )

Weather permitting (rain in the forecast) I am going to do W1 D1 TONIGHT! I was planning to start earlier, but I had a killer case of bronchitis.

I'm not so much worried about the impact, but I AM worried about my lung capacity. I quit a nasty smoking habit in October, and I am STILL having post bronchitis constriction. I am also a bit asthmatic.

However, I did run cross country in Jr. High, High School and College, so I KNOW I can do this. The downside is, I have no team or coach to cheer me on!

Finished W1D3 last night. Felt much better than the first day! I think I'll do one more day of W1 tomorrow, then move on to W2 next Monday.

If you have iTunes, look up the Podcast for Running -- this guy does the Couch to 5k program, week to week, set to music and telling you when to run and walk, etc.

I can't tell you what a difference this has made to me, motivation-wise. It IS like having a coach in your ear!

Joy66 (is the 66 the year you were born? If so, we are the same age ; ), I didn't pay for the C25K podcasts. If they are the same ones I have, you can download them from ullrey.com (I think). I'm at work so I don't have my favorites marked here but I know its listed on LCF somewhere or a search will find it.

Tea Cozy, congratulations on quitting smoking

I did W3D2 yesterday and am doing day 3 tomorrow. I may give week 3 a couple more days unless its easier tomorrow than it has been. I'll have to see what week 4 is going to ask of me. Anyway, I am loving it and it feels great!

That's the guy! Robert Ullrey! They're free on iTunes, too. Where was it they're charging? Amazon? Figures.

Is anyone having cramps / pains in their shins? Sometimes I have to stop and REALLY stretch during the workouts.

I did W1D5 today. I'm repeating week 1. Today was the first time it didn't feel really difficult. I'm going to do W1 once more and move on to W2 Monday.

Hi!

Just finished my Week 1 today! I felt really good when I finished. D3 was definitely easier than D1. I ran very early this morning (5:30) because my husband had to leave early for work this morning. It was either get up before the sun, or put my run off until tomorrow. I decided to get it in today...but man, oh man was it COLD and dark! It was the first time this week I had to run with my fleece jacket. Brrrr.... I think I was so focused on the temp that I ran faster!

Anyway, I'm taking tomorrow off and then I'm excited to start Week 2 on Monday. Next week I'll be running M,W,F.

Have a great day ya'll!

I made it!!

I walked my first 5K. My time was 56:39... It was a small event, but there were some serious runners... I saw a lot of stopwatches. One guy had some kind of gps and said the 5K was off ... it was about 3.18 miles or something. Man, they were SER.I.OUS.

I am just so happy. I walked 3 miles and I did it in under an hour.

The funny thing is that I placed 2nd in my age division: women/40-44

Well, there will be another one in my community in October. I bet I can have a better time by then!

And you came in WAY ahead of all those who never even showed up to try...

Good first 5K. Now sign up for another one and make a new PR

I'm going to be running my second 5K in a couple of hours. Looking forward to the excitement... even if it will be raining

W2D1 complete. It was definitely tougher, but I finished it. I liked only having 6 intervals instead of 8. I was pretty tired by the end, but I finished strong and really, REALLY enjoyed that 5 minute cool-down walk.

I bought some nice new running socks today. My last 3 pairs were getting a littl worn, and I really like having light, smooth, seamless socks.

I didn't like the music on the podcast nearly as much for week 2 as I did for week 1, but that's okay. Gotta do it two more times and then I can see what the music is like for week 3.

Happy running!

I did W1D6 (I did week 1 twice). Its amazing how do-able it was. I was still sweaty and huffing and puffing, but it wasn't impossible. The podcast really made the time fly. I'm starting W2 Wednesday.

Today is W2D2 for me. A little nervous (since it was considerably harder for me than W1, but also excited (since I know it's do-able...because I did it on Monday! )

The weather is gorgeous so that helps.
