I'm slow too. Very slow. It takes me 8 minutes to go twice around the track
that means 2 miles would take me.... sec, math! 32 minutes! So yeah, im slower than you! |

Way too much time on my hands!
|
Hi Girls! It's been crazy busy, so I haven't had time to post, though thought I'd stop by for an update and to catch up with everyone.
![]() I went from having ZERO pain in my calves and knees to HORRIBLE pain (for my last two runs). Talking to some experienced Marathon running friends of mine, it was suggested it's probably my shoes. I was scheduled another run for yesterday, though I barely started and the pain was so intense, I pulled back and decided it was SMART to WAIT until I can look at shoes today and hopefulyl come home with a pair that'll be a good "fit" for me. So, that's where I am now... Hate to have to have put off yesterday's run, though I didn't want to create more pain that would increase the healing time needed. I'm still on schedule. MY schedule. ![]()

I repeated Week 4 this morning.... It was so hard, I don't know why.. I may be pushing myself too much.. I'm really trying to get to 2.5 miles per session... Did 2.25.
I have a question for you all: Do you do any cardio work on your "off " days? I run M,W,F but I also do HIIT on the elliptical so I'm concerned I may be overworking my legs, thighs, etc.... Thoughts? |

Sunabee, wow, where do you run? I was told running on the road or sidewalk could do that. Better to find a dirt road or rubber track me thinks. *hugs* was wondering where you ran off to!

On mon/wed I do elliptical for at least 30 minutes. Sometimes I do 10 minute warmup on stairmaster. On friday I do 45 minutes of cardio. I try 15 minutes of stairmaster, 30 on ellpitcal. Sunday is my 'off day'. I def. do more cardio than just the couch to 5k. I added this to supplement my other cardio, not take the place of it. Oh, I also do toning twice a week. On weeks where I really go hard on squats/lunges then my jogging is...oh I don't know. My legs feel better once I start jogging and they loosen up, but then get tight again quick.

, and starting back to school at the beginning of this week. I've today off and FINALLY a morning to myself, so I'm takign full advantage of it and posting here!... Back to school clothes shoppin with the gys later today, so I'm hoping to find something shoe wise while we're out. As for where I'm running... I'm running outdoors, road running. I know that it's harder on your knees etc, though like I said I went from ZERO pain through ALL of this to INTENSE pain the last two runs, and talking to some experienced running friends, it shouldn't feel this way, even for outdoor running. So, hopefully, a new pair of shoes will help. If not, I'm truly at a loss. I just know that I can't keep running like this. If the new shoes don't help, then I *might* try to *work* my way through the pain and see if the intensity lessens over time. Though from the sounds of it, the new shoes might be just what I need... The shoes I've been wearing are made for running, though they are really old and the insoles literally wore right out of them.... |

Nope, shins don't hurt at ALL.
My knees KILL me when I run, and my calves will start to hurt too. It just all seems really unbelievable, with not experiencing ANY pain before this..... My marathon running friend thinks that perhaps the pain in the calves is due to not hydrating properly... I am not so good at making sure I drink water.. ![]() |

possible, i drink a bunch before I go, and stretching helps me a lot in terms of my calves as well.
I feel for ya girl, I'm liking jogging way too much, I'd be sad if I couldn't go anymore. I made my own 'podcasts' with more current music I love jogging and zoning out and listening to the music. It's all hot sexy stuff, reminding me where I want to be. |

Love your idea of podcasts. That's the kind of music I listen to too, when I work out - though I haven't listened to anything yet while running. I bought an mp3 player, and was really excited to load it up before running, though I discovered I can't run it off my desktop ( incompatible), though I can my laptop (which the power cord went out on, so doesn't work right now!).... Hopefully I'll have that up and running soon. Especially for the bad weather days that I'll be running in the gym at work. Last edited by SunaBee : 08-29-2007 at 09:04 AM. |

Thanks for the tips guys.
![]() Naturally, as soon as I posted this, my internet went down for the morning. So I didn't get to see your replies before I had to go.I took the boys back to school shopping, and ended up at a Nike Outlet, just to check out and see what they have... I ended up buying two pairs, of the Alvord model (IV and III). They are cushioned with the maximun amount of stability and a wide toe box. I had called Jenn with shoes in my hands, to ask how much bigger of a shoe then my normal street shoes I should look for. So, then I said, "Do you have ANY idea what size I wear NORMALLY?!" ![]() ![]() I ended up bringing home 12s. ![]() (And they are NOT too big....lol) Btw Jenn, I asked two store employees - they surprisingly do not carry those kind of socks. 42 million pairs of cotton socks though!... ![]() I ended up buying two pairs, because I think probably only ONE pair of these will be good for running, then it'll give me a sturdy pair of shoes for work too. (They are actually a trail shoe, though I thought the extra stability and traction would be good out where I run) |

did week 2 day 2 today. then did a full body workout as I'm seeing the doctor tomorrow. feels good to be back!
Sunabee, I'm glad you found some good shoes! I tried a new pair of cross trainers that I got (from ebay). and even though they were fabulous walking with my friend (we walk for about an hour).. I like my running shoes better for this program. so.. I'm switching back to them after today. hope this fixes the problem! If it doesn't, you should try posting over at the cool running boards.. bet they would know what to do. Des, I like your music! good idea.. sexy music for motivation!

Ohmygoshhhhh... I am a hot sweaty mess.
I just did Week 4 Workout 1 I can't believe I finished it. My knees and calves were still sore, though I'm pretty sure it's from the injury already caused by wearing such poor shoes. Least that's what I'm *thinking* now. Wow. Ibuprofen please. And a SHOWER. I'm SO proud. Tonight's run was HARD. First week to do MORE running then walking. Wow. Here's Week 4: Brisk five-minute warmup walk, then: 5 min. warm up, then: * Jog 1/4 mile (or 3 minutes) * Walk 1/8 mile (or 90 seconds) * Jog 1/2 mile (or 5 minutes) * Walk 1/4 mile (or 2-1/2 minutes) * Jog 1/4 mile (or 3 minutes) * Walk 1/8 mile (or 90 seconds) * Jog 1/2 mile (or 5 minutes) |

SunaBee: I hope the new shoes help. I read about shoes on different running sites, and decided to go to a running shop to get fitted, even though I had a good pair of New Balance shoes. I pronate a lot. They watched me walk and also had me walk in different shoes. I ended up with Brooks Addiction 7, which has some of the highest anti-pronation built in, and they also put an extra insole in (Superfeet) which helps keep my foot straight. It's definitely worth it to protect yourself from injury. They also recommend new shoes every 600 or so miles as the cushioning gets worn down.

Thanks Des!!!! Actually it wasn't *hard* from a stanima stand point - my breathing was REALLY good - just with this risidual pain, THAT made it hard! From a breathign standpoint the run RAWKED and I was REALLY surprised!

Complete W5 D2. I did the first 8 minutes fine but got too hot so on the last one, I ran 4 minutes, walked one min, ran 4. I think I'm pretty sensitive to the heat, and I wear a baseball cap to protect my face from the sun, but it makes me too hot. I am going to get a visor and see if that helps.
Des, I did warmup stretches and after my first running interval and I think it helped, so thanks!!! Sally |

Week 8, Day 2 is done. It's hot here and humid, yuk. I ran 30 minutes rather than the 27 called for, but I stopped for about 1 minute to walk a couple of times. My legs get heavy and tired. But I'm doing this after working all day, and with the heat, that doesn't help.
Good job everyone! Jazzy |
