and totally forgot about it.. Replaced them a year or so ago, and got the SS a few months back, but haven't put them to very good use.. ![]() ![]() I'm ready to now tho! I actually hate getting started {Like everyone else } But yes, once I get into it, I love it. And it then goes fast. I don't use the books a lot, mostly the tapes, on the BF...My daughter and I were doing the SS together a couple times a day, but as usual, fell away from it... |

When we used SS, it was very refreshing. Just 7 minutes a day, but always tempted to do it twice! Fell away from it for awhile and now we can't find the DVD. Urgh...........will keep looking for it as I remember how great it made us feel and the inches fell off too.

They are as different as they are alike.. That makes sense doesn't it...
![]() SS is not as 'strained', I guess... That's the only word I can think of, at the moment... It's a gentler movement, no harsh breathing technique at all. In fact, you breath normally... It takes about 5 minutes or so... I feel good when I'm done.. BF is more harsh, in that, you have the breaths, and then put more 'strain' {or at least I do} in your movements... It takes about 15ish minutes, if you are doing the video, and I do work up a sweat, depending on how much effort I've out into it... The moves in either one, aren't really much different than you'd do in any stretching routine... Which is what makes them a like, to ma anyway... It's the breathing in the BF, that makes it so 'harsh' to some people. I know for me, when I first start back up, I'm like, forget this! But after it's done, and by the 2nd or 3rd time, it becomes so much easier, and doesn't make me want to pass out... ![]() Obviously, I can't explain the difference very well... ![]() Hi Molly... OK, here's my opinion, for what that's worth.. If you have BF and do like it and can do it with no problem, I think you're good.. Later down the line, you can think about getting the SS... At the beginning of the thread someone posted {darn I forget who, sorry... Beth or Carolyn maybe?} the positions for the upper body. I found and posted the lower... If you give me some time, after I get done with some things I have to do today, I'll pull out the DVD and see if all the moves are posted here, and let you know. And I'll be happy to help in understanding just how to move. I know I had so much trouble with an arm one, and understanding just how I was to place my arms... Never did get it, until I saw it... ![]() |

Hello everyone!
I'm new :-). I'm tired of not feeling well, and not being able to do the things I need to. I live in the country and farm for a living. When you are as overweight as I am simple chores become hard. I'm also tired of being tired! I found this board googling for low carb recipes. I've been browsing the many forums. This is the thread that really got my attention. I have about 100 pounds to lose. (aack!) I've been looking for something I can ease into exercise wise. I can't afford a gym membership. The time and gas to drive to town every day is just too prohibitive. I'm all on my lonesome in my weight loss endeavor. I'd like very much to be a part of this amazing community. |

No, not really.. They are 2 different things... All I meant was that if you're on the fence about spending the money, I wouldn't run out to get it...
Both are stretches, one just has a harsh breathing and more positions.. SS is gentle and not as much of a strain.. I know, and I'm sorry, I'm probably making no sense... If you got back to the first page or so, you can find the positions and explanation, then search on my name, for this thread ans find the lower body.. Give 'em a try, and if you know BF, you'll be able to tell the difference I think... And hopefully understand what I'm trying to say... |

![]() You will find a lot of info on the main page and lots of help on the recipie help page.It is a great site, But it is in addition to reading the books (which ever one you want to do) and everything will fall into place better if you start out with the basics and the Whys of the LC program |

Lisa, sorry I could not get back to you sooner, but the kids school, social life, and sports sometimes take up whole days at a time.
I use the Body Flex Book rather than the BF tapes. The book is called Be A Loser . It was published in the late 1980's or early 1990's. I find that I get a better work out following the book's directions than with the videos she later released. In the book you do the first two exercises 5X each. Each time you breathe in and then exhale and hold for 10 - 12 seconds. So you are doing the breathing a total of 50 seconds per position. The rest of the routine you do each position 3X each with the breathing for 10 seconds for each repetitions. So approximately 30 second per position. I have seen better results going back to the original BF as described in her book than I have seen using SS alone. The SS seems to be really great for toning and shaping while the BF is better for quick inch loss. Hope that explanation makes sense. |

Hello Ladies, I am new to this thread but feel like I know you all because I have read all 742 Posts! Everything I have read is so encouraging and I have found the information fasinating. I have tried the three exercises outlined at the very beginning of this thread as written by Caroline. However, I do not understand the arm positions for the first one, I know that it has been explained many times but I am still confused. One person said to hold arms in front like holding a baby and Caroline's instructions say hold out to the side by the end it is as if you are showing off your biceps. Is there anyone who has or who has seen the video who could clarify for me. I am also way confused about the breathing but would like to incorporate it, if I can figure it out. That video really confused me - is it really like that or are you just supposed to breath in and hold for 8 seconds than out for 8 sec repeat???
Any help would be most appreciated. I have been at a stall for over 8 weeks now despite exercising like mad and doing CTFLC WOE. Thanks again!

Hi Pushing! Welcome to the thread...
Yes, the breathing is REALLY like that... After you do the breath out, then the hard breath in and the hard breath out, then you hold for the 8 seconds {or as long as you can til 8 seconds}I so know what you mean about the arm one! I never did understand, until I actually saw it.. If you give me a few, I'm going to try to pause the DVD and then take a pic of it.. Then I'll post it... Wish me luck! |

I'm working on the pic. I have it on the computer, now I can't find it... I have this problem every time I send from my BB to the machine.. I'll find it. If you're like me, you're going to say, it looks nothing like it was described...![]() |

OK, it really helps if you look in the CORRECT folder for your picture...
![]() On the breathing thing... You do the tummy roll, suck in thing, after your final breath out, that's when you do the contraction and hold it for the 8 seconds... You might check online the E place and the A place] for a good deal onthe tapes and book.. That's where I found my replacement tapes, after I misplaced mine... |

I was doing it wrong!!!!! Definetly was doing the breathing wrong. Still not sure about it but I think I have a better understanding. I will check on-line for the tapes and/or books. What kind of results have you had. It seemed for awhile people were updating regularly than everyone left???? Last edited by pushing 40; 01-07-2009 at 09:44 PM.. |

You're very welcome! I was doing it wrong too.. It's nothing like described... At least to me...
Did you see not to far after Carolyn posted the upper body, I posted the lower body SS movements.. Ya know for me, life just got in the way and for a lot of reasons I got away from doing BF, SS or anything.. When I did BF the first time {along with other things} I lost and trimmed really well... I'm just getting back into working out, and I am starting on the treadmill.. I think I'll be putting BF at least, into the mix here by the weekend.. I want a harder workout to start. I'll for sure use the SS to help tone even more... One thing at a time tho, for starters.. |
