I'm sorry to say that is truly a clip from the original bodyflex video. She makes that funny face during because she's doing the facial exercise, the Lion. There's also one called the ugly face. I know... you're thinking, "there's one uglier than THAT? " That being said, bodyflex is incredibly effective for those that are willing to do it consistently. When oxygen meets with fat it actually breaks it down; some portion of it becomes carbon dioxide and is exhaled through our lungs. Those of you that t-tapp will recall that this is something that teresa talks about in her book. It's good stuff... funny looking and all.

Oh, and yeah, when I was doing the original tape years ago my sister came running to check to see if I was ok. I've since figured out that I don't need to exhale nearly as forcefully in order to get results.

Oh wow! That video is so incredibly bizarre! But...I guess if it brings results, then it can't be too bad. I tried to do the breathing this morning with my SS routine and my two and half year old thought it was the funniest thing. He tried to do it with me. The hardest part is trying to do it without laughing. It just feels silly! But thanks for posting the video, Denise. It helped me to better understand the breathing.

I wonder if Teresa has stuck with it and continued to see good results?

Denise, do you do a lot of T-Tapp stuff along with this routine? I've been thinking about incorporating a few T-tapp moves as well. Have you ever tried the Hoe Downs? I've done them off and on, but I don't really feel the amazing difference or see amazing results when I do it so it is hard for me to stick with it. Maybe I'm just not consistent enough.

Has anyone tried to do the SS routine twice a day? I was thinking about it if I can manage it. I'm just on Day Two, but I'm feeling it!

Hey Smiling, that's soooooo sweet that your hubby brings you coffee in the morn. No worries, friend, I think the added caffeine probably adds to your fat burning; so drink up!

I'm not much of a coffee drinker, you're right, so the shake is my morning pick me up. I'm not anti caffeine, at all, though. I often drink cool yerba mate tea during workouts.

Supplements wise, I've developed a sort of knock off fat burner that I've modeled after Dr. Mauro Di Pasquale's Lipo Flush. He has a great article (a sales article, actually) that describes a few of the key ingredients in his fat burner. The ones that really stood out for me were as follows:

The combination of choline and carnitine caused fat to be flushed out in the urine, regardless of whether the subject was in ketosis

The combination of CLA and guarana showed a reduction in fat cells in rats. This is huge! Because diet and exercise only causes a reduction in the size of the cells. The rats that only took CLA had this result while the addition of the guarana somehow reduced the actual number of fat cells. Not sure if it works in humans, but I'm given it a shot, all the same.

So basically I take the combo, guarana, choline and carnitine. I take some other things but not having to do with weightloss. This combination is new for me and it's shown remarkable results so far. I'll be starting my own thread about it in the supplements section when I return home next week. I've dropped five pounds since Friday; having added the combination of supplements and the tweaks to my diet.

Maybe...maybe...I think I can...I think I can...

Not yet read all the posts, but am feeling as if this is do-able for me. I'm not moving well right now and really need an exercise that can be done without a lot of preparation. Not much stamina. Warming up would wear me out!

It's fun b/c it gives me something else to focus on instead of just thinking, "Dear God, I hate doing the tri-ceps! When will this ever end?!" and the workout seems to go even faster now (as if 7 minutes doesn't fly by as it is! lol)....

...for those still on the fence, all I can say is that this is the easiest 'exercise' I've ever done (yes, I get a little sweaty, but it really is ONLY 7 minutes - no warm up, no cool down, etc.) and I am literally someone who is 99% couch potato. Physical activity nearly kills me - walking up the stairs still takes effort for me (I was a smoker for 15 years). But I can (and do) do this! And I'm losing icky inches & seeing muscle in its place! I bought the WHOLE set (maybe $80 total?) and it's been worth EVERY penny - and I'm only on my 3rd week!
All right. I'm sold. I am 64, in bed 24/7 with a hinky hip and have no stamina at all, but I think I can manage 7 MINUTES - if I can do it in bed or near my bed, in stages. Thanks for this thread and all the testimony too! Y'all may have saved my life. This is no joke. Thanks!

Hey there, Lemonmama! No, I don't do t-tapp, at all. I love the workout but I tend to shy away from workouts that require a video. Like, it's just impossible to memorize the whole thing and just do it. Which is aggitating enough for me not to bother.

I know! It's so very hard not to laugh. That breathing is a trip! But it is effective and I'm glad your baby luv is enjoying it. I don't recommend trying to do it around hubby, however. You'll just catch grief... trust me.

These days I hit the gym three days a week. Even before I got back on the bandwagon I was into lifting heavy weights. Right now I'm doing the bodyforlife workout along with soft bodyflex breaths in between. I've lost lots since starting that! I only started that this week. I'll keep you posted.

Smiling - It has been a while since I looked at SS, but I believe she says to do it on an empty tummy. You have to suck it in tight, after the big release, and hold, so I had to have an empty tummy when I did them.

Swinglow, I'm interested in your supplement thread...have you started it yet? Somehow, I got *un*subscribed from this thread, dang, so I'm catching back up.

Still doing breathing in the a.m., and SS in the afternoon.

Oh yes, ADLMA, I usually do try to do everything on an empty stomach. Lord knows it is difficult to roll up the fat rolls under my ribs w/o food being in there

Hey girl81! The tweaks are as follows:

I eat three snacks and two meals per day, rather than the other way around. My snacks are 100 to 200 calories each and my meals are 400 to 500 calories each. All low carb, of course, and I keep my total carbs for the day under 30.

I don't consume anything with calories within the three hours (usually four) of bedtime. Water and tea sweetened with stevia plus, only. This way I go to bed with an empty tummy and my body is in a prime position to burn fat for energy while I rest.

On the three days that I go to the gym, I rise and go on an empty stomach. I work out and then do not eat for an hour after. Body for life and the eades from protein power claim that this causes growth hormone to really surge and causes an increase in body fat burning.

Lastly, I took some of the supplements that I take in the morning and afternoon and made a knockoff night time fat burner. I'll talk about it more in my supplements thread but I take that on the empty stomach right before I lay down. So far, this is causing me to shed weight like gangbusters! I'll wait til next week to post about it, though. Huge composition changes have occured within this last five days, as well. At this time, I'm not sure if it will continue to be this effective or if the changes have caused a surge and will settle back to a normal rate of fat loss. I'll keep you posted.

My reward for hitting THREEdom by month's end?

Just moved my marker under 410 and am looking at 399 as my next mini-goal - and now I know what my reward will be for getting to THREEdom by month's end. I'm gifting myself with Greer's SS DVD. Is that a great start on getting myself through THREEdom to TWOterVille in good shape? What can I hope to achieve by my 65th b'day (and new driver's license photo in Feb.2009) just nine months away? How many pounds/inches can I let go of in 9mos?

Is it crazy to think that maybe I can accomplish a massive shift in weight by using Greer's SS program and making faces and stuff? Can I do this???

I've done both and I like em both! It really depends on your personality and where you are with your workouts. Firstly, when I did Callanetics, one hour twice a week I had the best body of my life. It's crazy effective and everything gets firm and gorgeous.

Bodyflex is great, too, because for many people it's more doable. You may not be able to carve out one full hour but many people can fit in 15 minutes per day. That being said, Callanetics can be split that way, as well. Doing maybe the abs workout and associated stretches one day, the hips and buttocks another day and the legs another day.

Thing is, bodyflex is primarily an aerobic workout. There are some isometrics involved, but the real power comes in in that it moves that lymph and oxygenates the blood. You burn fat this way.

Callanetics is a strength and flexibility program. Your posture will improve, you'll build lean muscle which boosts metabolism and adds shape. You also burn fat this way. Callanetics is slow and calm and takes great control. It'll make you feel as though you're a dancer. If you've ever wanted to be a ballerina, this is the workout for you.

By doing the abdonda tapes which is bodflex added to the SS program you get the best of both worlds by getting an aerobic AND muscle buidling program. Ooh yeah, now you're talkin....

Great goin, Zer!!! You go ahead with your bad self. Getting the SS is the way to get to the 2's, indeed. In fact, you may even consider the abdonda which is a combination of SS and the bodyflex breathing.

I have no idea how many inches and pounds you can lose in the next 9 months, but I know you can make a huge dent in the bodyfat you have to lose. You'll build lean muscle and fabulous shape; helping your body to release stored bodyfat more effectively. What's more, a muscle building program is going to increase human growth hormone levels, helping excess skin to shrink and cling to your newly formed, well shaped muscles!

Thanks, Denise, and I'm looking forward to seeing your thread on supplements.

All these new words are confusing: Bodyflex, Callanetics, Abdonda?

I'm starting with SS and hope it will help me to get up and off this bed, where I do a stretching that makes my hinky left hip go POP POP POP in a soft-pop that is kind of new and that I hope is a positive sign that I am working my version of Pilates in a way that it was originally meant to work, as a way of letting injured soldiers work out while lying in bed. I'm hoping!

hey there

i received my three abdonda dvd's last week and only looked at them. i thought they seemed simple and "how can they make a difference" .... well ... today i actually did them. i went ahead and did all three dvd's (i figure they're only 7 minutes each, so 21 minutes was doable) .... holy moly was i sweating! wow! i held the pose for most of them, but a couple of them i had to release a few seconds early.

i'm looking forward to seeing results (duh) ... and love reading your success stories

have a great weekend!!

p.s. Can dvd's be copied (like vhs tapes can be copied)?
