Just reporting in...I didn't think anything could work better or faster than the original Body Flex program. Boy, was I wrong. I am into week three and the results amaze me! They amaze my friends and best of all they amaze my husband. I can see visible firming in my legs and my arms. I noticed this morning that my stomach was smaller. I can actually see the beginings of an indentation at my waist!

I felt almost silly raving on and on about it. The sad part tho, is that there are Many many others who have dismissed SS as just another scheme or money making fad.....BUT Its so NOT!! and both you and I ( and several others here) are proof that its WORKS!! ( IF ya DO IT that is..) You rock Girl and continued great success ....and to you too sazzie!!Anna |

Hi Anna! Thanks for the cheering! I have no thyroid so for me to be shaping up using SS is no less than a miracle to me.
I think that maybe because this is so simple many believe that SS is too good to be true. Back when I did the Body Flex program everyone wanted to know how I was losing the weight. When I would tell them I could see that they thought I was not being honest with them. After all, exercising for only 15 minutes a day and getting the results I was seemed contrary to everything they had learned about weight loss. And then to hear that it was a series of stretches while breathing made it sound incomprehensible. People view SS the same way. Even though they see my results they just can't wrap their head around how it can be effective in only seven minutes a day. The second draw back for most is the price. When you add shipping and handling the cost soars to almost $60.00 for the basic program. The Advanced program is only $19.00. With shipping it comes to $23.00 and change. My advice would be to go ahead and start with the advanced. I think you get a better workout and it really works the waist and abs. Those are the two trouble spots for thyroid patients. Also If someone is thinking of ordering it do not order from the website. I had problems with the website automatically doubling the number of programs I tried to order. Call the 800 number and order from a rep. I received mine in ten days as promised. Just one more thing. While I low carb because I am a protein type I do not diet. I eat pretty much what I want. I have a choc chip cookie for desert with lunch and diner and I am still losing inches. With metabolic typing I just have to make sure that 90 per cent of my daily food intake is from the protein chart, and that is easy! They key to this working is doing it everyday. Ruth |

Hi Aloise! No, the Advanced workout does not include the original ones, but they are described somewhere in this thread. Once you have the Advanced workout you will easily figure out how to do the originals from their description here.

I don't know how many of you have ever heard of Charles Atlas but he was considered the World's Most Perfectly Developed Man at one time. He used a form of isometrics, which is being described here. Though he did go a little further.

Carrielyn, you are right about isometric exercises having been around for awhile. Before I found the SS Adv workout I bought two used books on isometrics. I was hoping to find an alternative to spending $50 to $60 dollars.
Each exercise worked a specific muscle or body part. They both started with the neck and went down to the legs. No matter which book I used it still took 20 minutes to 30 minutes to hit all the same muscle groups that SS hits in seven minutes. The beauty of SS is working multiple muscle groups at the same time. For instance the first exercise is her bicep curl. You feel it in your biceps. triceps, back, and chest. It also works the lower part of your arms as well. When you do the seated exercises you are working every muscle group from your glutes to your abs to your feet. |

As with most things people learn how to improve on the old. The principle has been around a long time and it's been improved upon.
![]() I've been reading along as all of you discuss this and I've been thinking about buying it. Maybe after the new year I'll get one. I do have the Body Flex somewhere in with a gazillion other exercise videos so maybe I'll pull it out and start using it first thing in the mornings before my husband gets up. I've been trying to get more cardio/aerobic type exercises in. My endo wants me to try and do 30 min a day. That makes it necessary to buy out the time from something else. I would like to get some firming in though.

Ruth, Anna, Sazzie, thanks for your inspiring posts & testimonials on SS. I have the basic & received the advanced SS last week. I am also using hypsosis tape to get me in the right frame of mind to exercise on a continuing basis. I'm working on doing SS every day. I also use one exercise when doing the facial exercise. Put palms of hands together as in praying & press as hard as possible while contracting muscles in upper arm. Am also looking forward to getting the Body Principal book I ordered for more isometric exercises.
WTG Everyone KUTGW & please keep posting I need all the encouragement I can get to keep at this.Barbara |

Barbara,
I'm a firm believer in meditaion, and have been doing it since 2003 with Holosync. Extremely relaxing and when I don't do it, my family notices a change in me. Getting back on topic, I'm very interested in the self-hypnosis, so I've ordered the Tom Nicoli's CDs. I especially need it to maintain my level of exercise, including SS, cause I find that once I have a bit of success, I seem to withdraw. It's as if my sub-conscious is saying.....ah well, you can do it, so what's next?.....make any sense? Have no problem with my eating plan, since I'm well established in that arena, but my exercise routine, which includes walking, SS and T-Tapp sometimes gets a bit ignored, so hopefully these CDs will get me back into the mind-set of permanency as my WOE.

Gracie, I have had the Tom Nicoli's CD's for less than a week & I am pretty sure they are working (esp the exercise one). I actually wanted to do both SS workouts today
& went on the treadmill for a few minutes. I haven't done the treadmill in ages. His voice is very sothing & I drift off at times. |

Barbara, that is very encouraging. I was bowling with my league tonight, so sorry I didn't respond sooner.
As a matter of fact, my game has suffered a lot lately, so went back to the website and am getting the bowling CD. Since I've already ordered the other CDs, I will call them in the morning, and hopefully, won't have to pay extra shipping. I am getting psyched just thinking about this, and SS is on my list of priorities tomorrow. Oh, an afterthought.....even sitting here at the computer I am flexing my buns, then holding my abs in, and they are hurting. We can do these isometrics just about anytime, anyplace. I find sometimes that I slouch at the computer, so just sitting up straight and holding those abs makes for some good exercise. |

Gracie, I recall from reading the old Victoria Principal book that she would do the isometrics many times during the day. When she was getting her hair & makeup done while sitting in the chair & walking around the tv show set just like you are doing sitting at the computer. She also did some in bed before getting up in the A.M. & then again before going to sleep at night. I ordered the book used but haven't received it yet. I just want to have my own copy to get the encouragement from it. If you're interested your library probably has a copy of the book call Body Principal.

All of you rock!
Barbara, Keep up the great work! You should notice some body changes even after one week. Don't go by the scale at first. Notice how your clothes fit. I, too, have used meditation and self-hypnosis CDs. I love the "Paraliminals" developed by Paul Scheele at Learning Strategies. Just put on a headset and relax. The technology is that two sets of messages are going on at once. You don't key in on either one so don't try to follow along. Just close your eyes and take a twenty minute vacation. Right after doing SS I find that I feel really great. And when I weighed myself this AM I had dropped another 4 pounds! Hurray Shapely Secrets! These are my only form of exercise right now. Ruth |

Ruth,
4 lbs is wonderful, congratulations. I only lose 1/5 to 1 lb a week but I do add a meal or two per week that is a Indulgence/Reward Meal to my strict low-carb regime.I will check out the Paraliminals, thanks for the recommendation & many thanks for your encouragement ![]() Barbara |

Hi Barbara! I have lost about 23 pounds in the past 24 months. That comes out to a little less than a pound per month. I was low carbing all the way. In June I did metabolic typing only to find that I am a high protein type anyway. So what was the hold up on my weight loss? I have no thyroid so was on 2 grains of Armour Thyroid + 4 Cytomel per day. You would think that would trip weight loss because my T-3 was off the charts. Two weeks ago I went to a new doctor in the hopes of finding answers that would help me trip a weight loss of more than less than 1 pound per month. He weaned me from 4 Cytomels per day to only 2 over the past two weeks. He said he thought it might speed up my metabolism.
I think that maybe it did, but SS by building muscle also causes metabolism to speed up. I am thinking my drop of four pounds might be a combination of SS and what the doctor did. He also has me on liquid calcium and vitamin D-3 since the latest thyroid studies (according to him) show that whether or not you have a thyroid without the proper amounts of calcium and D-3 your body can't use the thyroid hormone you make or the supplement that people like me have to take daily. Ruth, my naturopathic doctor put me on D3, DHEA, and adrenal support just two weeks ago, and I am already feeling so much better, physically and mentally, along with a lot more energy. He told me that if the adrenal support didn't do the job, then he'd consider Armour.
I also measured myself a few days ago, and have lost another 6 inches from the last time I measured. I don't measure often, just when I think I've lost some inches by my clothes. We are still in the experimental stage but I am finally feeling very hopeful and very encouraged. He, btw, is reading GC/BC, so I love him. I just found out today when I went to see one of his peers for a foot problem that people fly in from all over the US to see him. I had no clue, but I will say the first time I met him about 4 months ago, I knew I had found a good doctor. I still see my md, but I feel so comfortable w/this new doctor! He's good looking, to boot! |

WTG, Sazzie! I had my DHEA and adrenals checked already and they are fine. Just adding the D-3 and calcium made a big difference in how I feel, and than ks to SS I think I am on the right track!
I saw a naturopath here in Northern VA about a month ago. He also confirmed the calcium thing. I am glad you found help. |

I get my calcium from Adora, Dark Belgian Chocolate calcium disks. They are sinful. It's hard not to eat more than one but they have 500 mg Calcium, plus Vitamin D2 & Vitamin K3, 30 calories, 2 g sugar, 3 carbs. I buy them at Whole Foods, and take one after a meal (max 3 a day for 1500 mg of Calcium).
Have a great weekend everyone ![]() Barbara |

Hi, I am new to this site.
I have been using the orginal body flex alternating with body flex plus for two months. I am liking what I am seeing in the mirror. I saw an infomercial on Shapely Secrets, but haven't bought it yet. I have to laugh, our grown son, 22, a ex-competive swimmer saw me doing them the other day and said, " is that what you are doing to try to lose weight?". I told him to check back with with me in another month to see how great I looked. I love it, it really does work if I do it every day. Great thread, great forum. Slendercate |

hello to all of you,
I just read the instructions on page 2 and have the following questions: 1- for the triceps: when your hands are in the back, do your fists face each other or face the back wall? 2- are these daily exercises or they should be done one day on and one day off. these sound like ones that could be done in the office. I think you can count me in starting tomorrw ( God willing). wish me luck and Thank you |

Good bc I have a 3rd question; how do you breath while doing the exercise for the waist area? I find that when I breath I let go of my stomach muscles a little |

Dahlia,
I will try to answer your questions. When you are flexing your triceps, your fists should be facing one another, but they do face the back wall. Let me explain further......put your fists in front of you, and fold them as if you are holding something in your hand. Simply extend that same position to the back. I hope I made that somewhat clear. As far as doing them daily, if you can, then do it. If you're too sore, then skip a day, and do it every other day. I prefer to do them daily, but, most times, it is less than that. As far as the breathing goes......yes, I know what you are talking about, but if you can, try practicing holding your abs in throughout the day, and you will find that your breathing will be fine. You really shouldn't hold your breath while flexing your abs. HTH |

I've just started SS & also have trouble holding in my stomach for the full 25 seconds because I seem to be holding my breath in while trying to tighten my stomach, if that makes any sense. I also wasn't sure on the Advanced SS exactly where my fists should be facing. Gracie, when I get a chance to meet you in person, I will ask you to demonstrate how you do each position |
