SS sounds amazing and the 7 min thing really interests me because I just don't have any time. I am in chiropractic care due to a car accident, with minor injuries to my upper back and neck..From your knowledge of the "routine" do you think I could SS? I don't think my chiro will know what ss is, and I don't want to order without knowing I'll be a able to do it.

I'm not trying to put you in a tough spot, I'm just really looking for some type of exersize to help me shape my body, especially my thighs which I really, really hate. Let me know what you think!

Thanks

Just marking my spot. With the chiro thing, these excercises don't jar or put pressure on your body. Earlier in the thread, but I con't know what number there is a description of the moves. These are isometric excercises.

2. Your triceps: bring your arms in back of you, make a fist..tighten your arms and squeeze your shoulders together..25 secs..hold..release..raise your
arms 2 inches higher, squeeze and release..On this one, you can lean your torso a bit forward..Repeat raising the arms until they are as high as they will go in back of you..Squeeze those shoulders/arms..

3. Your fanny: Stand on the floor..on the balls of your feet..have a chair a foot in front of you and use the back of the chair for balance..thrust out
your pelvis and squeeze your fanny for 25 secs..release and repeat 3 more times..You will feel it all down your leg..and as you thrust your pelvis forward you will feel it more..

There is a face one that is really hard to explain..

Does this make sense??

Very simple exercise, but I tell ya my tummy area stays sore from this. I really give it my all when doing these exercises.

I think this is one of the best short routines I've ever come across.

Carolyn, you're so right! I don't need the tapes anymore either, and I find myself doing them just about everywhere I go!

Thanks again for introducing me to Body Flex, which in turn led to SS and then to Advanced SS. What a find!!

Ya know, even though I've done these for awhile now, my muscles still burn!

I've been off and on, but each time I get back to them, I see and feel such a difference!

Just love it!! Once you know them, you can do them anywhere, almost any time.

I started doing some isometrics when we go to the movie now. LOL While I am sitting there in the dark, I put my legs together, lift my legs off of the seat with only my butt touching, and squeeze for a count of 25. I do this 5 or 6 times throughout the movie. I can sure feel it the next day. I am sure if people see me do this in a movie, they probably think I am a freak, but I don't lift my knees very high, just high enough to not have support under my thighs.

Brenda, you are proof that these can be done anywhere. Tightening any muscle for 25 seconds can work.

Of course, it really shouldn't totally take the place of cardio or a scheduled resistance workout, but in addition, it's great. It's also a real plus if you're traveling a lot, as we do.

I walk 3-5x a week 2-3 miles for cardio, and use my Total Gym for resistance training.

The Body Flex is something I did try, but it wasn't for me. It involves deep breathing, and came with a resistance bar. You stay seated for the routine.

Carolyn may come along and explain it better!!

I am able to stand, walk, and because of those gifts, I decided to start my walking program again along with SS and Total Gym.

Maybe when I'm a lot older, I'll bring it out again, but for now, I'm happy with my present routine.

That's not the Bodyflex I used. No bar with mine and you definitely didn't stay seated.

Hi, this is my first post to this board. I am so excited that I found this! I am going to start the Couch to 5K, and I also want to start Shapely Secrets. The problem is, my hubby thinks I'm nuts to want to pay the $50 it is going to cost. Does anybody have a set that they want to sell? Or does anyone know where I can buy a used set (not E-bay). Thanks!

Popping back in sooner than I thought!!

Hi-ya back at ya...Sazzie!!..

Well I faced the scale this morning and it was not bad...( NOT good either, LOL) but certainly not as bad as i had expected...

I am at 189.4...so a 7 pound gain since?? well...mid July, a little over 2 months...of eating sloppy...I had discovered those SF ice pops at ALDI's...I forget the carb count but I do recall that they are aprox 30 cals each and with the intense heat all summer.( weak excuse I know..) .Anyway I REALLY been indulging in them quite heavily...like daily..and NOT just one or two either...I'm talking an entire box ( of 24) per week... On top of that I also been hitting the crackers ( Cheeze-it)..I discovered the "White cheddar" ones...and OMG..are they ever good...too good... I also been eating tads of other crap here and there as well....I've been using Stress as an excuse but in all honesty I admit thats BS....

I used to wonder how someone can lose say, 100+ pounds and then ...gain it all back ( and many times...even more..)...Hard cold truth is..it begins just like...what I've been doing...meaning slipping and sliding and "Rationalizing" each mouthful....and as a result...slowly..adding a few pounds back on ..one pound at a time.....

Anyway, I totally REFUSE!!!!! to hit that 190 mark on the scale EVER again,..so as of today...I am back on track!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Altho I don't like what I saw on the scale today,..I AM very grateful that it was not any worse, matter of fact I am almost surprised that its not,..So..I will take what I saw and move forward.....
My Doctor wants me to get to 160-ish,...And STAY THERE.. said she will be happy with that as opposed to what the charts says I'm "Really supposed to weigh"...'ME 135...HA!!, never happen, besides I've lost aprox 140 already...and just maintaining this is a full time job...

Ok time to get up and moving...Going to the lake DD and a friend to the lake. I'm going to walk a couple of miles...its finally really nice out!!....wonderful Fall weather...and I am going to take full advantage...

Well Happy Sunday All!!..and I'll post again soon..

Anna

just adding my 2 cents...

I don't know anything about the system in question, but having read many of the responses and being able to deduce that the system is based on flexing the muscles, I can firmly state that - if done properly - flexing all the muscles of the body for various intervals will harden the body, boost the matabolism (thereby increasing fat loss), and even strengthen (to an extent) the muscles.

Muscles can be flexed and held at any point in their range of motion, or flexed while shortening the muscle (called a concentric contraction), or the reverse - flexed while elongating the muscle (which is called an eccentric contraction, and is much harder!!!)

Hi all,
This is my first post and I stumbled upon your group when trying to find out about the ss system of exercise. I read the instructions printed here, actually printed them and used them this morning. If after a week or so I really think they are working I am going to seriously consider ordering it.

Let me tell you a little about myself so you will understand why this might be the answer I have looking for! Two and a half years ago I had a stroke. It was not a medical stroke but what they call a mechincal stroke. What happened is I was having my hair done at a beauty parlor. It was a long process. I was having my hair dyed to its natural color and then high-lighted. The gal finished the dyeing process and washed it out dried it and then started the high-lighting. As she was finishing on my left side, she asked me if I was leaning over. I realized at that point that I was not only leaning but slumped to the left. I straightened up and said something like I guess I was trying to help you. She finished applying the bleach, wrapped my head and said to go to the dryer. Luckily she was standing right there, because when I tried to get up I had no balance control. At first I thought maybe it was just from sitting too long or something. But when I got out from under the dryer it was no different. She rinsed out the bleach and we went back to her chair where she blew my hair dry and styled it. I realized then that I couldn't really see how it looked. I had removed my contacts earlier because the chemicals were making my eyes burn. But my vision was way worse that it normally was without glasses or contacts. I knew that something was amis so I called my son to come get me. He took me straight to the ER. By the time we got there I was having violent pain/cramps in the side of my head and neck.

They ran all kinds of tests and confirmed that I had suffered a stroke. The neurologist then told me what had happened. I guess when she put me in the shampoo bowl it hyperextended my neck, that combined with the hard surface of the bowl, cut off the blood supply to the brain, causing a stoke.

I spent three weeks in the hospital, most of it doing intense physical therapy. Then about 3 months doing out patient therapy. At that point I was 500 feet ambulatory without a cane or walker. To this day I still have balance issues. I don't use a cane unless we are going to be walking long distances. Anyway with all this came a sediatary life style for awhile and I really packed on the pounds! 60 of them to be precise. Six months after the stroke I was then diagnosed with diabetes and high cholesterol. I take meds for those and watch my diet of course, even though the two really conflict with each other! Oh, I forgot to mention, as a result of the stoke I also have bladder control problems--another and different diet reccommended for this issue which conflicts with both of the others! About the only thing I am not restricted to consume is water!

But now to the ss program. I am really kind of limited to physical exercise at this point. Because of the balance issue, walking is limited to short distances even with the cane, I have a lot of pain and my stamina is really low. I get tired really easy, I think because I am so tense worrying about falling. Anyway I thought this motionless exercise program might be my answer. I have to get more of this weight off, not just what I gained after the stroke but the pounds that shouldn't have been there before then anyway! I am hoping that maybe these exercises will help stay firmed up so when the pounds come off I won't look like a flabber old cow!

Your stories have been encouraging and maybe you have helped me find my light!

Hi Judie,
I tried to PM you but I guess you have to be here 25 days before you can get a PM. I read your story ~ what a horrible experience. When I read it, I immediately thought that you should try T-Tapp. I have a herniated disk in my back and I started T-Tapp about a month ago. Since then I haven't had any pain and I've lost about 12" off my body. I've actually gone down 1 size too. The creator of T-Tapp is Teresa Tapp and she is a Physical Therapist. It's a very different approach to exercise and it's very effective. The website is Better Body Basics - T-Tapp.com. There is also a phone number on the website you can call and talk to an expert who will tell you where to start for your situation. Also, there are videos on the website to show you correct form and exercises. Maybe try those first....
Good luck with everything.....I do think T-Tapp could help you.
God Bless
