I just make sure that when I do it( I do it on the treadmill, have a 3yr. old) I am watching something I am interested in. The time goes by faster that way.. I am looking forward to being able to do it outside some too though... |

I could never read on the treadmill, had to watch TV with the volume way up, and didn't like that much either. Not that outside is that much more interesting, but MP3 player helps immensely. Once I'm done with C25K podcasts, I've got an audiobook I'll try and this weekend I'm going to set up a music playlist that'll keep me going at a decent pace.
Great job, Cindy and Jenadlite! Honestly, before you know it you'll be sitting here at week 9 saying wow, I did it! Gavinsmom, I don't have the program with me, but it starts out with jogging 30 minutes 3X/week for three weeks, then starts adding minutes. What makes this easier for you? For me, the top three things are

Shelly for me ........ I like walking on the treadmill...... I never really liked walking outside for some reason. But now that I do it on the treadmill all the time, I kinda wanna do it outside. But for me, with hubby working all the time and having a 3yr. old, this makes it easy for me. I do however want to start doing it outside at least a day a week. I am sure running outside is much different, nothing to make you keep going, and I am planning on running a 5K next year, so outside would be good....lol
What keeps me going........ definitely a routine.... definitely.. Another thing is just proving to myself that I can do it....... has been a biggie. Other than that.............what keeps me going is just that..... keeping going!

Yeah shelly, I have read the one hour runner thing.......... that is why I was wondering if Tymom was gonna do the 30 minutes for a few weeks like it says... I couldnt remember exactly how many minutes you run the first week after the 3 weeks are up...
Looks like a good program....... and very structured like C25K which I need! |

And the first 3 weeks are 30 minutes 3x/week, so sort of hanging there for awhile after c25k before moving up the length of any of the runs.
Oh for FLATNESS and a slight downhill slope... |

Tymom! I've subscribed to your thread, I'll be joining you there soon.Does that mean you're running hills too? Mine are very gentle slopes, at least it seems that way driving down the street... jogging up them is another story... |

Shelly: Um, not really hills, but more like slopes. I swear I never paid much attention to the subtle inclines but now I am always scoping it out. The loop I run is ok, not too hilly (I live in a hilly area in SoCal), but I can sure can tell when it is sloping down instead of up!!

Week 9 Day 2 done
My hills aren't really hills either, just very gentle slopes, expect for one hill going back up the street to my house. It's short but steep, and I can't run up it yet, it's a challenge to walk. So Monday and today I turned around and backtracked so I wouldn't hit it in the last two minutes, and both times Pup sat his 100 lbs down in the street and looked very confused. I could almost read his mind - "We're almost home, what are you doing, where are we going, why why why??" |

Won't bore you with the details as some may have seen it elsewhere BUT it easier to to do Week 3 Day 2 without a hangover. However I did it
I am trying to run once a week outside. Saturday morning it is. I still haven't downloaded the podcast. How do I find it again? The slopes are what really make a difference. I have wondered about entering a slight incline on the treadmill. Any views? Love the picture of your puzzled pooch ![]() I'm off to look at your new thread Tymom...and to dream. ![]()

Cindy, google robert ullrey training mixes and his page should be the first one, click on the Podcasts tab. It really helps, especially in the early weeks when there's more alternation between jogging and walking.
With a hangover! I've been all proud of myself for doing it in the cold and rain, but wow. gavinsmom, you're almost there, only seven more runs until you graduate! You who are just starting are as much an inspiration to me as you who have (or are nearly) completed. I know how tempting it is to wait just one more day to get on the track or treadmill, and every day you don't give in to that urge is a success. Keep it up, you'll be so glad you did! |

Couch to 5K Week 9 Day 3
I'll start the One Hour Runner first thing Monday morning. Can you believe I did it? It seems strange to me. I'm in my forties, still a good 35 lbs overweight, definitely not the athletic type. And yet here I am! ![]() |

I have a question for you who run (or walk or jog or sit on the couch) and have a RAZR or other device with a USB miniport or bluetooth.... Podcasts were a big part of making it through C25K, and I started One Hour Runner today
, but my earbuds keep falling out. They're the cheap ones that came with the RAZR, the wire is already loose and one of the foam bits is torn up from me jamming it in my ear to try to keep it from falling out Any recommendations for wireless/bluetooth vs. wired earbuds? I'm liking the wireless idea but need something that wouldn't fall off in the street. Wired would be OK if I could keep them in my ears. I tried no phones at all today, and although I don't have a super-sensitive ear for sound quality, it was tinny. TIA! |
